Eric Siu explains why firing someone immediately can backfire. Instead of letting people go on the spot, use a 6-8 week mindful transition if you have a good relationship with them. Skip this approach if you don't actually get along.
There's this thing called the mindful transition where you talk it out with them instead of firing them and saying, hey, you're out, or giving you a 2-week notice. It's like, hey, it's clear it's not working right now. Maybe it can be like a 6-week or 8-week transition. It's worked really well for the people that I've had a really good relationship with. And then you don't get surprised at the same time too, right? Because sometimes it's clear that it's just not working out anymore. It's time for them to move on to the next thing. But don't ever do it on people that you don't have a good relationship with because they're just stuck there. It's like really bad.
