Eric Siu explores what success actually means with a focus on resource allocation and knowing when to quit. The conversation centers on enduring the difficult middle stretch of building something, then recognizing the point where more effort stops paying off.
What does success mean?
What I have focused on is I don't start a project unless I think I have enough resources to get through the dip. And when the project has reached the point where I don't believe more effort from me will get more returns for me, I stop. And so I don't think you have to do a project for 30 years for it to pay off, but I do think you have to be aware of where is the slog and what are the rewards for going through the slog.
This is a game again. You have to understand the game that you're playing. And if it no longer feels like a game, maybe you jump out of that system.
