Eric Siu talks about the explosion of AI-generated podcasts and the low-quality content flooding platforms. He discusses whether listeners will get fatigued, how platforms might label AI shows, and whether new social networks focused on human creators could emerge.
Neil, have you seen that AI podcasts are ripping right now?
You're talking about specifically AI podcasts? At least what I'm talking about is people creating podcasts using AI and they're getting tons of traction because they're creating episodes on a lot of different stuff.
This is what I mean, literally generated by AI. I think this is something that might make sense, but if you can generate these things so quickly, I think you're going to see a big increase in these, which means you're going to see a lot more slop on the internet. It's going to be industry— some of it will be good, good content, like don't get me wrong, but you're gonna see a lot of stuff.
Wait, what percentage do you think is going to be good content? Like 1%. People are just gonna get so tired, going to start boycotting, being like, dude, we're tired of listening to podcasts that are AI. And then I'm telling you, these platforms, whether it's Apple or Google or Spotify, people are going to get irritated. So they're going to have to start labeling like AI-generated podcasts. You know what I'm telling you, like, it's going to go everywhere with—
I actually think a new social media platform is going to come out where it's just focused on all human content only, or like all human curation, and that's going to be a thing.
