The excerpt is a multi-speaker discussion comparing Discord and Slack—covering Slack's threading problems, Discord's markdown/formatting and channel organization benefits for solo work, and the tradeoff that Slack may be better for team (multiplayer) contexts. Participants reference creator Brian Castle and an assistant called "Hermes" that offered a "leverage score" recommendation.
Brian Castle, he does a lot of videos on this. And one of the things that he discovered was that the threading doesn't work well in Slack.
His solution is Discord. Here's the reason why.
I really like Discord for a number of reasons. First of all, the formatting, the markdown support, it's really nice and readable. The other thing I like is that I can separate out and have multiple channels. So these are like sort of like areas of my business.
Okay, I'm thinking of switching over to Discord. I think what it is, is if it's single-player mode, Discord seems to make a lot of sense. If it's multiplayer mode, I think Slack is the way to go because that's where your team is.
I actually asked my Hermes this question, I think a while back. I was like, hey, to your point, I'm like, I would use Discord if I'm alone. I'm like, I should be using Discord, right? Or should I use Slack or should I use Telegram? Like, what's better? And then the other day I was like, hey, should I put it on iMessage? And then it basically gives me— I'm always asking every day, what's the highest leverage thing I can do? What's the highest leverage thing I can do? Give me the leverage score 1 through 100 on this. And it was like, Slack is like a 9 out of 10 or a 98 out of 100 for you because it's multiplayer,
