Why iPad OS is Game Changing for Businesses

Eric Siu tests iPad Pro as a primary business device and rates it 9/10 for work. Safari now defaults to desktop sites, making web apps like Asana usable as on a laptop. The Apple Pencil converts handwriting to text in Notability, and split-view multitasking lets him run dual-screen workflows.

Today we are going to talk about if the iPadOS is actually good for business. But before we do, don't forget to subscribe whatever platform you are coming from if you want to grow predictably in business and in life. So let's talk about this. The iPadOS, I'm using it on the iPad Pro right now. Apple felt the need to make a new operating system just for the iPad. Why? Because a lot of people started using the iPad Pro just for as their main workstation. I was using MacBook Airs in the past, I was using MacBook Pros. I was using a lot of laptops, right? The biggest problem today is there's too much stuff going on, right? There's, you have social media, you have a bunch of billion different tabs, and you're just going all over the place, right? And it's really easy to get distracted. But the iPad Pro actually focuses you in, and the battery life is incredible. I can come into work maybe at 7:30, 8:00 AM, and I can go all the way to 5:00 PM or so, and I can still have maybe 30% battery life to spare. I flew for about 5 hours or so, from the US to Mexico, and at the end of that flight, I was watching videos and everything, and I had 70% battery left. And the Apple Pencil here is great too. I can open up an app over here like Notability, and I can just start drawing stuff, right? I can erase stuff as well. Let's write my name, Eric, okay? And then check this out. If I go like this, and if I hit this, I can convert it to text. Conversion preview, I can convert selection, boom. Right? So my handwriting is really bad, but I can use something like Notability to draw stuff, to take notes, to put pictures in. It's really cheap, and you know, it's one of the things where I did a lot of research in the beginning, so you don't have to do the research in terms of the apps that you should be getting. You know, being able to look at things dual screen is great too. So if I open up Safari over here, and if I opened up— if I wanted to have like Chrome open on the other side, all I need to do is kind of swipe up to get the icons up, and now I'm looking at dual screen. I can just swipe off of it if I don't want anymore. These are the things that were kind of built in already. But if we're looking at Safari right now, one of the biggest gripes that I had with the iPad Pro was that whenever I'm using Safari, every website that I look at is viewed as mobile right now. By default, this will be seen as a desktop machine or like a laptop machine where I am now able to get the max benefit of whatever I'm doing here. Let's say I wanted to go to Workable over here. I can do that. This is our applicant tracking system so we can see the jobs that we have available. It used to be all scrunched up and all weird, but now this is actually like a desktop device where I can— I'm looking at it and I can do work more efficiently because a lot of the things that I use are actually web apps. So Asana can be a web app even though there's a mobile app as well. Workable has a mobile app, but it's not that good. A lot of things don't have really good mobile apps. So to be able to use things as web applications is amazing, right? So that's good. And then on the left side over here, I kind of have this mission control, which I didn't have before. So I can see what the weather looks like. You know, I can look at my Google Calendar over here. I have Wall Street Journal in here too. And then I can add other stuff too. I got top stories, top news, and you can edit this too. I have a bunch of shortcuts. I have a shortcut here to order Sweetgreen too, cause I like to order Sweetgreen salads. But you can also edit this too and add and add stuff to your mission control just so you can access things much faster. Right? So I love this and there's other stuff that you can do with it. You can actually have your laptop right next to it and you can have your iPad Pro as your secondary screen. Also, not only that, you can draw on it and then that would actually, that would be your drawing device. So you not only have a second screen where you can carry things over, but you can draw on it as well. So that's how powerful the iPad, the iPad Pro is already powerful, I love it, battery life, great machine, gets me to focus. But now I can actually look at things and use them as web applications, I'm now more effective. Because before I was primarily using it for communication purposes, whether it's email, Slack, project management. Uh, that kind of stuff and also managing the calendar too. The note-taking is great too. So when I'm, when I go into a meeting with someone, so it doesn't look like I'm losing attention, I, what I'll do is I'll easily just switch over and I'll, you know, make my iPad go like this and then I'll just start writing. So I'll just start writing like, oh, I see what you're saying, right? So it doesn't look like I'm getting distracted because what happens, what, one of the, one of my biggest pet peeves is when, um, I'm with someone one-on-one and we're having a meal and they take out their phone, like especially if it's like a business meeting or it's the first time meeting them. They do that, that's pretty rude, right? So I make sure to kind of respect the time that they have and I take that out. You know, what's beautiful too is, you know, as we look at this, when I, when I look at it, when I'm trying to log into this website over here, I can go to 1Password and then I can enter in the password, right? And it does, it has Face ID. So you might be concerned about the fact that you don't have all the extensions that you have on your laptop. I have a ton of extensions on my Chrome, right? But a lot of stuff I have here already, like if I need to expand text, I can do that too. So let me give you an example. If I go back to Notability over here, um, if I go over here and I type text, I'm using an app called TextExpander. And a lot of the things that I do, I end up sending my scheduling link a lot, right? So I can just go over here and I can just type my Zoom booking. That's it. I just literally, I click that, right? A lot of times I'll send out my demo videos too. I'll send out this video over here. That saves a lot of time, frustration. I'm all about convenience at the end of the day. Now that the iPadOS is out, You know, before I might have rated my iPad Pro like an 8 out of 10, now it's a 9 out of 10 because now I truly can use this as my main device. Because in the past I would previously have to go home to get on my Mac Pro or my MacBook Pro and do work that way. So 9 out of 10 now. I'm curious to know in the comments what you think. What do you think? Do you think you're gonna use the iPad Pro? Or what do you think about iPadOS? Let us know in the comments.
