Eric Siu explains why people resent successful individuals: success exposes their own inadequacy. He argues that real success comes from building something through hard work and adding value, often starting from nothing. Charlie Munger said the world is driven by envy, not greed.

Why people hate successful people. My take on it is people hate successful people because successful people hold up a mirror to their inadequacy. And what I mean by that is, if you think about it, what does it take to become successful? Well, okay, to become successful, you have to build something. Well, to build something, you have to work hard, right? You have to have added some value in some way, shape, or form. And all of those people, the vast majority of them, have come from either not much or nothing at all. And they've built themselves all the way up. And Charlie Munger, rest in peace, used to always say that the world is driven by envy, not by greed.
