The excerpt is a single-speaker monologue offering career/skills advice: advocating for deep, portable "fat skills" with a "thin harness" (attributing the phrasing to Gary Tan/Y Combinator), and sharing a personal anecdote about hardware (Hermes and a failing DGX Spark) to illustrate that skills, not specific tools, are what matter because they can be recovered and ported when tooling fails.

Chapters

These skills ultimately add a lot of leverage. And so right now on X, you see maybe like a month or two ago, people like Gary Tan from Y Combinator, he's like, you want to have fat skills, thin harness, right? And what that means is you want to have really skills that go deep. And then the harness that you use doesn't matter as much. The skills need to be portable. And I learned that last week when I thought my Hermes was screwing things up and it wasn't that, it was my DGX Spark that started to slowly die. Like it slowly started to die and now this thing won't even boot up anymore, right? And I'm like, what the heck happened? But I was able to, as of yesterday, port over skills. I thought I lost all the skills and turns out that I was able to recover 360 of the skills. And that's what's actually important. It's not the harness itself, it's actually the skills, right? And so the sooner you start to do this, the better.
