Eric Siu argues companies should build their own AI models using proprietary data. He cites Cursor forking KIMI to create a domain-specific product, and points to open-source projects like Hermes and GLM 5.2 as proof it's possible.

I actually believe, Neil, that your company or my company, we're going to need to build our own language models. So we might fork like a Kimi K3 that's close to frontier model. We might take our opinion, the data that we have on helping our clients grow their revenues, and we might make our own models. I wouldn't want to put the time into it, but now that it's such a big thing as it ties into our businesses, it doesn't make sense for me to not understand it. I would encourage you all to play with open source technologies, right? Like Buzz that just came out from Jack Dorsey, like that's open source. Hermes is open source, OpenCLAW is open source. Using these models like GLM 5.2 or KIMI K3, like these are all very powerful things. And then you combine it with what else you're using, just like other companies like Cursor has done that. They forked a version of KIMI and they made their composer, and they have a lot of data on people engineering and coding, and they made their own. I think that's going to become more of a thing.
