Most people read books wrong by forcing themselves through cover to cover. Instead, keep a small collection of trusted books and flip to the chapter that solves your immediate problem, whether it's hiring or scaling. You're paying for years of someone else's experience distilled into a few pages.
Chapters
You're looking at books all wrong. I'll get the question sometimes from my friends asking, how many of these books have you actually read? And the reality is, I just answer, I say very little. And it's because I look at books as points of reference. And so when I need something around investing, hiring, scaling, whatever it is exactly, I will pull from the most relevant book I have back here because all of the books I have back here are recommended many times over, sometimes from multiple friends, or I've seen them mentioned many times on the web. And I'll just pick it up because books are some of the best deals that you can get out there. You can pay $10, $15, $20 for tons of wisdom, years of wisdom to sidestep mistakes. I will gladly pay for it. And what I'll do then is when I need to call upon the book, I will take a look at the table of contents and whatever it is that I'm struggling with, I will just go to that chapter and I'll read it. And if I get tired of the book, I'll move on. The key thing here is that you control the books. You don't let the books control you.
