Winning is everything. Those were the words of the late Kobe Bryant. And today I want to share with you a handful of inspirational things that come from Kobe and that can help you achieve your best and become the very best version of yourself.
Hi, my name is Eric Partaker and I've been recognized as a CEO of the year. And I'm also the author of two best selling books, including the Three Alarms. So, number one, hard work is not enough. You must work with intentionality. Where is it that you're going? What's the purpose? What's your aim? If you just kind of go out to a forest, for example, and start chopping trees randomly, one of them won't fall. You have to decide, okay, I'm going for this one and I'm going to keep chopping and chopping and chopping away until that one falls. False. You have to have intentionality too. Often we go through life and our work and we're just drifting. We don't have anything that we're aiming for, and often we only have goals that relate to our work. What are your health goals? What are your home goals? Your relationship goals? We need to have something to shoot for. We need to have intentionality in all these areas of life, our health, our wealth, and our relationships. As a matter of fact, the way I start each and every day is I sit back and I think to myself, how would the best version of me show up today? On the health front, on the wealth front, on the relationship front? And I ask myself, what's one thing I could do, which, if I did, would evidence that I was stepping into the champion version of myself in each of those areas. And by having that kind of intentionality, by deciding what best looks like for me in the areas of life that matter most, and then also giving myself one thing, just one small thing, behavior or action that I could shoot for within each of those domains, health, wealth and relationships on a daily basis. It gives me the intentionality that I need. That helps me elevate to a winning level, that helps me elevate my game to a pro level, if you will. Number two, have a mindfulness routine to center and focus yourself. Meditation is incredibly powerful, and if you haven't practiced it before, you need not make it complicated. There are so many resources out there that can show you how to meditate in 60 seconds flat. Just do a quick search and you'll find tons of tools and techniques and things for free that can help you learn how to quiet your mind, how to meditate. And why is this important? Why Is this important for winning? Because you need to be able to turn on that ability to focus on what matters most. You need to turn on that ability to put those blinders on and eliminate all the distractions in life, all the noises and all the things that are competing for your attention so that you can focus on scoring the points that you need to win the game that you are playing. So do you have a mindfulness practice? Do you have a way to quiet the mind? And if you don't, how can you, even if it was just 60 seconds a day, start to develop that routine and that habit? Number three, we got to learn from people who are more skilled than us. The world is full of, of people who are a little bit further ahead than we are in just about every single area of life. And isn't that wonderful? Isn't that great? Instead of feeling bad about that, feel excited about that. Because these are people that you can model your behavior after. These are people that you can learn from. Sometimes it's in the flesh and blood and you can watch and witness somebody doing something that you also want to do. Sometimes you learn from reading, sometimes you learn from what, watching something. But there's so many people that you can learn from. You know, I had this very super liberating, comforting thought early in my career that helped me become, you know, the professional that I became. That helped me become the entrepreneur that I became. And the simple thought was, all the expertise, resources, and things that I need to do to do or achieve anything in life, they already exist. I simply have to connect my way to them. I simply have to find my way of connecting to them and extracting that knowledge, learning from that person or that thing. Number four, and Kobe certainly did this all the time. Play to win if you want to get on top. So if you go out and if you're participating in a sports game or in a business venture, and if you're just kind of sort of being there but without the intention of trying to win and do well, guess what kind of results you're going to get. Do you think you're going to win the game? Of course not. You need to go there with the competitive spirit, spirit that you want to win, that you want to achieve. And even if it's not to win versus someone else even more powerfully, you can set your mind to think that you need to win based on being better than the person you were yesterday. So constantly competing against yourself, look to win each and every day. How can I be better than the person I Was before? Number 5 Be patient, be Diligent. Be persistent. Keep grinding away the effort with intentionality in the long term will deliver results. But you have to play the long game. So many people are not willing to play the long game. And once again, isn't that wonderful that they're not willing to play the long game. That's your competitive advantage. That's what will give you the chance to set yourself up ahead of those that you're competing against. That's what will allow you to become a better version of yourself. That's what will allow you to compete against yourself and become better once again than the person you were the day before. Patient, Diligent. Persistent. Keep hammering away and eventually your success and results are inevitable. And I'd love to hear from you. So don't forget to leave a comment and a rating as well.
