Good morning, Believe Nation! It's Evan. My one word is believe, and I believe in you. I believe in your potential, and I want to see that great thing that you have inside you explode out into the world and have a big impact. So to help you on your journey, today's message is energize. Over to you, Eric Thomas.
I wake up every morning, espresso keep me going.
I wake up every morning You give 70% effort, the most, the optimal that can come out of giving 70% energy is what? 70% outcome.
That's it.
So y'all gotta do me a favor, for real, I'm not playing. Like, the energy y'all give off sucks. Like, it ain't no other way for me to say it. It sucks. And I don't care about the energy you giving me right now, but if you taking this energy you giving me into the real world, you, you gonna be average. So when you get out of here, I'm talking about I need energy. You don't have to be the smartest person in the world, 'cause sometimes when you smart, people still don't notice you. People always notice what? Always. If you not careful, you'll get electrocuted. You have to pay attention to energy and things that energize. That's all I'm asking you to do. I'm saying most of you are not successful, not because you have reached your highest level of success. You are not successful because you stopped focusing on it. You quit focus on it. You got a job and then you just stop.
The only thing more important than having energy is having consistency in your energy. You've all felt moments. You have had moments in your life where you've been unstoppable, had tons of energy, felt bold, felt courageous, and attacked whatever goal was in front of you, but it's not consistent. The next day you wake up and it's gone. And if you have these spikes of energy and one day a month or one day a week you're really peaking and the rest just kind of falls off, that doesn't allow you to do great things. And so yes, you want to raise your energy, but you need to be consistent in that energy. And so it's finding the thing that brings the energy out. It's having the strong why. It's having a good environment around you, having resources that, that pull you up. And it's one of the main reasons why I keep going with my YouTube channel, because I believe that the environment matters, because I believe that the habits that you go through matter, because I know that it works for me. I create this YouTube channel selfishly For me, because it helps me, because being around all these successful people raise my energy. Because watching Steve Jobs say his thing, and Elon Musk say his thing, and Oprah Winfrey say her thing, Eric Thomas say his thing, seeps into me. And I need that as a daily thing to raise my level, just like brushing my teeth. I gotta do that daily to take care of my oral hygiene. You know, I need that influx of wisdom. Ideas and energy for my mental hygiene, for my soulful hygiene. I need it daily. Otherwise it's too easy to coast. Otherwise it's too easy to just rest on your talents, to stay where you are. It's so easy to see a lot of entrepreneurs, they start their business, they have a little bit of hard work and they're really crushing at the beginning trying to get their business off the ground, and then they hit a certain level and then they just tend to coast. You're starting to make a little bit of money and you just coast. You rest on your talents, you assume you're gonna be good enough, and you stop driving to wanna do more. If you don't have people people in your environment pushing you to do more, chances are you won't because you will let yourself down too many times. Where if you're accountable to somebody else and you're around achievers who are doing big things, you will want to go off and achieve more. And I believe that if you have the ability, then you have the responsibility to, right? If you can, then you must. And I believe that you guys have a greater ability, that you can do more, and therefore you must. And so to do that, you need to be surrounded by an environment that fosters excellence. And so if watching these videos on a daily basis is what raises your energy, then do it. If reading the book raises your energy, then do it. Whatever it is, if meditating on the balcony to the sun and saying a prayer every morning, if that's the thing that gets you consistently raising your energy, then do that. You have all had moments in your life where you have felt that boldness and that unstoppableness and that raise in energy. You've all had that. Now instead of randomly having that happen on a Thursday afternoon and you're on fire for the rest of the day, I want you to figure out how to put that into your morning routine so that you start your day every day with a ton of energy. The only thing more important than having great energy is consistency in your energy that allow you to go off and do great things. So the question of the day today is, I'm curious, what is it that raises your energy? What's the habit, routine, action that you take hopefully on a regular basis that raises that energy up for you? Leave in the comments below. I'm really curious to find out. I also want to give a quick shout out to Deb Banerjee. Deb, thank you so much for picking up a copy of my book, Your One Word. I really appreciate the support and I hope you enjoyed the read. So thank you guys again for watching. I believe in you. I hope you continue to believe in yourself and whatever your one word is. Much love, and I'll see you again tomorrow morning for another shot of inspresso. I wake up every morning.
Espresso, keep me going.
What do you think the biggest difference between doing a play and doing— I mean, it's a cliché question, but I'd be interested to know your answer.
I think a part of what Viola just said is that you get to dig deeper and you get another day. And you get the energy. You do a movie and it's 200 people that are used to it and they don't care. And everybody's doing their job. And it comes in a theater somewhere. And you're picking your nose at home somewhere, clipping your nails. There's no energy.
Right.
When I was on Broadway 5 years ago with Julius Caesar, I made a decision to sign autographs every night. I don't know what I did.
Yeah, it ain't happening this time. No. Only as I rub my knees. Only because my knees are bad.
It's hard for me to stand.
But—
And why did you decide to do that?
Well, you know, I wanted to say thank you. It was my way of saying thank you. And the first night, it was like 5,000 people. 5,000 people out there.
I said, okay, wait a minute, everybody who has playbills from our show. So, yeah, 'cause it was like people were just wandering up the block. I was like, wait a minute, I forgot I'm on 42nd Street, Times Square. I'm like, wait a minute. But honestly—
You were signing for weeks.
The energy, and I was out there an hour and a half every night, every show.
Wow.
But the energy you got back, the stories, the 5 little old ladies who just drove in from Detroit. And I'm like, well, what y'all doing tonight? They said, we getting back in the car, baby. We got to go back tonight. And you know, a little 84-year-old lady was like, baby, if I was 3 years younger.
Oh, true story. True story. Then we had— and I say this also because I hope it happens with this play.
We had some high schools come. We had one school from somewhere. I forgot where. And they were doing Julius Caesar, and some young kid was like, "Well, you know, my Brutus is a bit different." He's more the classic stoic. But it was great to engage in exchange with these young people. There was an energy. I got more from it than I gave to the people that I signed for. That's, you know, you don't get that. You know, the odd thing about success in film is is the budgets get bigger, you make more money, but they become more formulaic. So you don't get the opportunity. So I, God willing, if I stay around long enough, this is what I'm gonna be doing.
Listen, I was having some conversations with my friends. I was like, man, I cried. Now I'm, you know, I'm a real person. I ain't got no problem telling you straight up the raw truth. I cried because it was so much joy. Meaning as in when I have somebody come up to me and say, yo, you changed my life. You make me feel better. You help me do better in school. You know, I got different things and looking at things and, you know, you know, you know, I always tell people, you know what I'm saying? We all gonna go through storms. 'Cause I've been through so many storms, man, that, you know what I mean? That's a whole nother show. You know what I'm saying? But I always knew the sunshine on the other side. And I always try to motivate myself and motivate the people. You know what I mean? And I do that through my music. And anytime I've ever do an interview, I try to put, good energy out. Even if, even if Big Boy or whoever has something to tell me, maybe I don't want to be asked, I'm gonna answer it the right way because I don't have a problem anybody asking me no question. It's the way that you answer the question.
Yeah.
It's the way that you spread the answer back. Because at the end of the day, I'm a leader. That's right. And, and, and I got life and that's all that matters. And people gotta remember, when you have life, you could accomplish anything you want to accomplish, man.
That's—
and that's that. Today you could have a problem, but guess what? You breathing, you can fix it.
Mm.
And you know what I'm saying? It's just real talk. So that's how I look at things every day.
A boss's entire job is to get the combined intellect of his team to be raised to a new level and to instill spirit. Find every way to celebrate. Find every excuse to have a party. Every little victory counts. I mean, it is so— if a boss can't energize, if he or she can't excite and make people want to be there, they shouldn't have that title.
Let me give you the one-word secret to happiness. One word. This is all you need to be happy.
The most important word ever.
If you had to think of one word that's most important to you or that's sums you up, or that would be kind of like a little beacon.
Hey, Believe Nation! If you want to know what the most important one word is for Tony Robbins, Gary Vaynerchuk, Oprah Winfrey, will.i.am, and Howard Schultz, I have a very special secret video for you. Check the description for details.
