In this Technology Tuesday episode, Evan Carmichael answers a viewer’s question about creating a “Business Receipts” folder in Evernote. He explains Evernote’s three‑level hierarchy—stacks (folders), notebooks, and notes—clarifying the terminology differences. Evan demonstrates the process: right‑click to create a notebook, then right‑click the notebook to add it to a new or existing stack, rename stacks, and organize multiple notebooks under a stack. He uses examples like a “YouTube Questions” stack and a “Musab Rocks” notebook to illustrate how to structure personal, business, and hobby information (receipts, recipes, travel, etc.) within Evernote. The video concludes with a call to subscribe, join his newsletter, and includes a brief testimonial from Jason J. Ros Fonseca praising the newsletter.

Welcome to another Technology Tuesday. Today I'm going to be showing you how to create folders in Evernote. I got a question from one of my YouTube viewers, love you guys, Musab, who wrote in to say, "How do you create that folder 'business receipts' and add the notebooks under it?" So I use Evernote to manage a lot of the information that I have in my life. I use it for keeping notes on my book, my personal my business and personal notes, things that I'm tracking, things related to salsa. I use it for the business receipts that Moosab was talking about, guitar music, family receipts, recipes, salsa, places to check out in Toronto, vacation, basically all the information that I have in my life, I put it into Evernote so that I don't have to worry about keeping paper anymore. Now Moosab's specific question was, how did I create this folder called Business Receipts and then all the notebooks under it. So what you have to understand about Evernote is there are 3 levels in their structure. The first, that thing that you call a folder, they call it a stack, and it takes a little bit of time just to kind of get used to that. But this business receipts is called a stack, and then all of these are individual notebooks, and then the individual files like this one would be a note. So you have stack, notebook, note. So to create a new folder or stack, what I would do is you go to the bottom, you just right-click anywhere, and you say Create Notebook. So you have to create the notebook first before you can create the stack or the folder. So create a notebook, I'll call it Musab Rocks. And you'll see that it's now its own notebook, there's nothing in it. I can create a new note and call it Great question, Musab. And then it'll be a new note, and then I can add more notes underneath it. Woohoo! And so on. Now if I wanted to add this to the stack or the folder, what I would do is right-click on it and say Add to Stack. And I can look at the ones that currently exist. These are my current stacks, or I can add a new one. So I just right-click, create a new one. This is just Notebook Stack. I will rename that and say, call this YouTube Questions. So if I wanted to start getting all of my YouTube questions and put them in Evernote, then I could create that stack. That's how you do it. These are my Musab Rocks ones. I could right-click on it now and then create a new notebook under it, and this could be John Rocks if John had some questions, and then he would be here and I can add notes. So that's how you do it quickly. So you just have to remember that a folder is called a stack Then you have your notebooks, and then you have your individual notes. So I hope that answered your question, Musab. For everybody watching, if you like the video, you want to see more just like it, you can subscribe to the channel below.
