Marketing Strategies - I have an idea!

In this YouTube monologue, Evan Carmichael responds to a viewer’s question about launching a social‑networking/reverse‑auction site. He argues that the sole focus on making money is a recipe for failure and that true entrepreneurial success stems from deep personal passion for the product or service. Carmichael stresses that entrepreneurs must love their idea enough to persevere through hardship, and that when value is genuinely created for others, money will follow. He cites famous entrepreneurs as evidence, warns against chasing quick cash, and urges viewers to align any business concept with what they truly care about. The video ends with a typical call‑to‑action encouraging likes, comments, and subscriptions.

I have an idea. So about once a month I have to have this talk with you guys, and I think it's important because we need to stomp this out. Okay, I got a question from one of my YouTube viewers, Robel, who wrote in to say, I have an idea to create a social networking site and a reverse auctioning site. I was wondering whether or not it would work and if it was a good idea. Here's the thing, okay, I get frustrated because this is how we are We are trained, I don't know what, I don't know why we think of businesses just trying to make money. Okay, I get so many people who write to me every month and they say, "What do you think of this idea? You think it's going to make a lot of money? Should I start it or not? What do you think?" It doesn't matter what I think. It doesn't matter what your friends think. The only thing that matters is are you deeply passionate about this? I go over this in detail in my ZUGA guide on finding your passion. But if you are trying to start a business because you think you're going to make a lot of money and that's the reason for starting it, it's not going to work. You're going to fail. It's the wrong route to go down. And I get it, okay? You want to make money. Maybe you have huge debt. Maybe, you know, you have bills to pay. Maybe you just look at your life and say, "I don't want to be here anymore. I need more money to make a better life for myself. I got to go get mine. I need to find a way to make more cash." I get that, okay? I get the frustration. I was there. But if you look at successful entrepreneurs, look at any successful— look at your favorite entrepreneur, whoever it is, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, whoever it is, look at how they got started. Look at what led them to start their business. It was never, never to try to make a million dollars. Money is never the number one goal for highly successful entrepreneurs. Money is the number one goal for the entrepreneurs who never make it. That's the difference. You start a business just trying to make money, you're going to go broke. You're going to lose money. You're going to lose your time. You're going to lose all the energy you put into it. You're going to shut down, you're going to quit as soon as it gets hard because it's hard. You have to be a little bit crazy to be an entrepreneur. You have to love your thing so much that you're willing to do it even if you weren't getting paid to do it. That's how you know you love it. And when you love it that much and you're adding value and you're truly helping people's lives, then the money comes. The money comes. I'm not saying start a charity. I want you to make a lot of money. But if money is your only goal, it doesn't work. You have to find something you're passionate about, and I don't know what that is for you. I'm not getting the sense that reverse auctioning sites, that's your passion. And for those of you watching, I get it. Again, I get it. You want to make money. We need to make money. You need money to survive. And it can be hard saying, listen, I can't even pay my rent next month. I can't pay my mortgage. I need some quick cash. You're always going to be fighting the small game if you just chase the dollars. You're never going to be able to build something great unless you're passionate about it. So if you're looking at a new business idea, it doesn't matter what I think, it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks except you. You have to love it. You have to deal with all the crap that's gonna be thrown at you, all the failure, all the rejection, and keep going because you know in your heart that it's the right thing to do. If that's how you feel about reverse auctioning sites, then go do it. But if it's not, then you have to do something else. And don't waste your time, your energy, your dollars going down this wrong path because your time here is limited. You have to make the most of it, and you should be doing something that feels right, that means something to you, and that have a positive impact on this world. And when you do that, I promise you the money will come. And if you don't believe me, research any famous entrepreneur, research how they got started, look at where they are now, and you'll find the same pattern over and over and over and over again. Believe. For those of you watching the video, give it a thumbs up below. Let me know what you think. Leave a comment underneath, ask me a question, I'm going to give you a response.
