Norway Travel Vlog: Friluftsliv, Freezing Fjords, Reindeer & Northern Lights

In this 2‑week travel vlog, Evan Carmichael and his companion Nina document their journey from Toronto to Norway, exploring the concept of friluftsliv (outdoor living) across three main regions: Oslo, Hemsedal, and Tromsø. After a bumpy flight via Frankfurt, they settle into a wooden‑styled hotel in Oslo, then head to Hemsedal for New Year’s celebrations, snowboarding, sledding, and sauna sessions. The vlog continues with a trip to Tromsø where they experience reindeer sledding, Sami cultural activities, and chase the Northern Lights, though visibility is limited. Throughout the trip they sample a variety of Norwegian foods—frozen Grandiosa pizza, tacos, brown cheese on waffles, fish soup, and reindeer stew—while also visiting cafés, street‑food markets, and a pizza restaurant in Oslo. They interact with local hosts such as Anniken, Annika, and Sami guides, and incorporate wellness practices like sauna, cold‑water plunges, and red‑light therapy. The narrative is informal and conversational, mixing logistical details, personal reflections, and playful banter, culminating in takeaways about trying new experiences, embracing nature, and personal growth.

Okay, Nina, this is it. This is it. What are we doing?
Yeah, we're going to Norway.
We're heading to Norway. We're heading to Norway. We're in Toronto, Canada. We're going to fly to Frankfurt and then head to Norway. For the past 6 months, I've been living friluftsliv. Yeah. Which is basically— what is friluftsliv, Nina?
Outdoor. Yeah.
Outdoor living. Outdoor living. The Norwegians live by it. And so we are going to go for 2 weeks and experience it ourselves. We're going to start in Oslo. Then we're going to head to Hemse Dalen to do some skiing, snowboarding with a friend of ours. Then we're going to head to Tromsø to do some reindeer and Northern Lights, see if we can catch that. And then back to Oslo to go check out the city and then back to Toronto. Nina is very excited.
Yeah, we waited for 6 months.
We waited 6 months for this trip. It is cold here in Canada. We're leaving just before New Year's. We're going to spend New Year's in Hemsedal.
Yeah, but we got these nice—
oh, matching— the matching on-brand boots.
Go, go!
I told Nina, she doesn't like the cold, so I told her, because it's cold in Canada, I know what we do. Go to the Arctic Circle. Go somewhere colder. That's right. We're going to take you on a journey. Let's go. We're at the lounge, airport, Air Canada lounge, and we're getting some food. Where are we, Evan? Oh, Frankfurt Airport. We just made our flight. It was, it was a very rough flight. Very bumpy, delayed, had to de-ice our plane. And then to get here, we had to take a transfer shuttle, go through security, yada yada yada. Anyway, we made it. We're just on time and we are going to get our flight to Oslo. Let's go. They're all the perfect height for you, Nina. No, I found the perfect one here. This is the man's though. It's a man's beard, but it's fine.
All right, just check in to the hotel. Now we're going to get to the room. Evan doesn't have the key, and then the key is wood too.
Everything is so— there's so much wood here. I love it.
Great.
I love the natural environment, natural elements. It's nice.
Yeah, it's all about the nature.
Yeah, Nina is like convinced she wants to move to Norway. I'm like, give it, you know, let's see what happens. We're just day one already. We haven't even seen— not even day one.
Day zero.
Day zero, Nina. Yeah, we can't just move here yet.
Oh, I like the two beds, two separate beds. Good. Why? Because you sleep better. We all sleep better. Yeah, we sleep better with the two beds. And this is the bathroom.
There you go.
Shower room. Yeah, for one night it's good.
For one night it's great.
Yeah, I'm not sleeping. Right, yeah. We drop our stuff off, come down to the restaurant for early dinner. 5 o'clock dinner.
5 o'clock. Restaurant just opened. It got dark already at 4 o'clock sunset. It's, it's what, 11 AM, I guess, for us in Toronto. Yeah. But I didn't sleep at all on the plane anyway, so we'll probably eat, get ready, uh, for tomorrow and then early night to bed, wake up, head to Hemsedal.
It is the next day, early, 6, 6 something. I woke up at 1:30.
Yeah, I slept and then woke me up.
No, I didn't wake you up. I went to— we went to bed at 10 o'clock. Yeah, 10 o'clock. And then I woke up at 11 and 12. I just— I wake up every hour and then 1:30, I couldn't sleep anymore.
So yeah, breakfast time, then Amsterdam.
We just finished breakfast. Evan, what are you going to do after? Right now?
I don't know.
You're going to shave.
That's— I'm going to shave? Yeah. Yeah, that's a good idea.
Yeah, you're going to shave. Yeah, yeah. All gone.
You're going to look like a whole different human.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
In 7 minutes.
Yeah. We're going to check out. It's end of our hotel time here.
Let's go to Amsterdam.
We're going to take the train to Gouw, and then, uh, a friend of us going to pick us up from Gouw to Amsterdam. We picked up our coffee in the pink glass— pink glass— pink pink cups. Yeah, it matches my bag, matches my gloves. Evan loves pink now.
Uh, our brand is gold, so this could be rose gold.
Okay, we're going to catch a train to Køl.
Oslo first, and then new train to Køl. Køl.
Yeah. We arrived at Anakin's place. Beautiful house. Thank you for having us. Yeah, my pleasure. We just drop everything off and then we say let's go for a walk. It's cold. It's a cold start.
Cold start.
Fresh air.
Yeah, yeah. Free loose leaf. Let's go, guys. You filmed the hike?
Yeah, I filmed the hike.
That was a pretty intense— it's not just a hike, we climbed up a ski slope.
50 minutes.
Yeah, and then ran the top part, which is a big exercise, and then walked back down. It was super fun. At points it got so windy that like snow was on your face, like ice is hitting your face. It was awesome. And then had our first decent night of sleep, and today we'll see what, uh, what, uh, what unfolds. We're just enjoying the sunrise in the mountains. Yeah, I'm excited.
What are you working on, Evan?
Just getting ready. We're waiting. We're going to go for a hike. Yeah, yeah.
You ready for the hike?
I'm ready.
Yeah. Is it hiking or just walk? Hiking. Oh, okay.
Yeah, look at them go.
You could see them. I did. I filmed it.
Yeah, yeah. Getting our layers all set. It's gonna go for a great walk. Yeah.
We just stopped at this little cabin. Yep. Have some coffee.
Yeah. How you feeling?
With Honneken and Kala. Yeah.
Yep, we're gonna do a boomerang.
Okay. My glasses are fogging up.
In, go. Perfect. We didn't say skål!
Skål! So how do you like Norway?
It's amazing!
You gotta come! Nice and warm bikini weather?
No.
No.
But in my heart, yes. But I wouldn't wear a bikini either way.
The view is great though.
Yeah.
Evan, what are we doing?
We're going grocery shopping. We're going to find the frozen pizza aisle.
Frozen pizza aisle.
I'm not going to buy anything there, but I just want to see it.
Just look at it.
Norwegians love their frozen pizza.
Yeah. And then Annika, we need 2 dinners worth of— 2 dinners worth of—
Yeah.
So you probably have some good ideas, right? Me? Oh wow. Okay. Why are you so excited for the pizza, Evan?
Oh, it's just surprising that Norwegians love frozen pizza, and it's like an Italian, you know, grandiosa. I'm not excited for frozen pizza, I just find it interesting that Norwegians love tacos and frozen pizza so much.
So Evan really wanted the pizza.
That's not true, Nina really wanted frozen pizza.
Yeah, Nina really wanted frozen pizza. We must get one frozen pizza.
Evan is half Italian and this is not pizza.
No, no, he says that we must try this.
That's a lie. This is a lie.
Evan's having trouble with something. So we're gonna get this and then maybe do it tonight. Maybe. Yeah. What are you doing? Making— cutting some fins. You call fins these? Yeah, cutting the fins out from the fish and I'm gonna make some fish. And where's it from? Norwegian fish. Yeah, where is it from? It's from Hansedal, the river, the stream that We walk up to the hill.
Yeah.
And it's from the local stream. The lake. The lake. The lake. Yeah. Not stream.
Lake.
Excellent. Look at this. Fresh. Healthy, healthy, fresh. Okay. After dinner, I totally forgot to film. Okay.
Yeah. Now you're filming me.
Yeah, I'm filming you.
Dinner was awesome. Nina is now an expert Norwegian dish chef. She made dinner, which is awesome. And now we are going to do some snow racers, which are these little sleds, I guess, that have a brake and steering wheel that we're gonna go down the hill in complete darkness. Yeah, uh, so I don't know how Nina's gonna film if she's gonna film, and then we're gonna sit in the back of a pickup truck as we go up, drive back up. Yeah, let's go.
I'll try to film.
Yeah, Nina's getting her lesson here. Yeah, this is what we're gonna be riding on down the hill in the dark. Yeah, you look like a kid on that thing. Yeah, two ways to brake, or three actually. Fall off? One is just put your foot off and put your heels at that. Okay, yeah, dig your heels in. Yeah, or you can press this guy.
Oh, okay. Oh, like this. Oh, okay, like both. Yeah, yeah. And then without these, I could just let go and then—
okay, it matches our brand too, Nina. It's gold, black and gold.
Like this.
Yeah, fall off.
Wait, wait, what?
Just fall off. Yeah, yeah, scream, scream. I should be okay with this. Okay, okay, so it's not good, like you're gonna save any money to join that thing into the forest.
Okay, right, yeah. And another thing, wherever you look is where you're gonna go.
Oh, okay.
If you see a tree, don't look at the tree, Nina.
Look down the hill.
Okay, for whoever is it gonna be, just don't look for me. No, no, you be at the back, so okay, perfect. Do it.
Yeah, I can do it.
Yeah, yeah, we're ready.
So the full Norwegian experience. Any, uh, last words?
Any last words?
I love you, Nina.
How was your experience on the sled?
Yeah, awesome.
Yeah, what are your takeaways? What's your takeaway?
Takeaways are Do something new, challenge yourself, get outside, live some free loose leaf, and Norway is better than Finland. That's my takeaway. First day on the slopes. We're going to go to the kids' hill, the bunny hill, to practice. And Anneken's husband is a performer— is a performer— is a former professional snowboarder. So he's going to give us some tips on how to get better. And today is bunny slopes, and then tomorrow we hit the big hills. Nina's excited. She's waiting for this moment for a long time. Yeah, here I am trying to get ready. Anakin is like digging at me, you know.
Hey Nina, are you excited? Yeah, also scared, but it's good to be scared, I guess, right? It is healthy to be scared.
Okay, Adam, how are you doing?
Oh, what's up?
I was like, I'll pose for the picture. Uh, I'm excited, I'm excited. We're hitting the big mountain now. Yeah, after the really tiny kid hill, now we're doing the actual thing. Nina's still practicing, so let's get down. That's why you come to Hamstad.
Oh yes, let's go do it.
All right, so, um, we got lucky. We hired a Norwegian chef A Chinese-Norwegian chef is making us some— what are you doing, Nina? Chicken. Chicken, that looks great. In a wok, that's very Norwegian. Yep, perfect. After a full day of— actually, it wasn't a full day of snowboarding, we didn't start till like 2 o'clock. Yeah, but after a couple runs of snowboarding, we went, uh, we had a sauna. And now we're ready to eat some yummy Nina food. Let's go! Nina just got her pass, which means she's going to be taking some ski lifts today. So we got to go out and practice and then head up onto the lifts. How you feeling, Nina? Nervous. Yeah, good. Yeah, good.
Not good.
It's great. If you didn't do things that made you nervous, you'd hate your life. Let's go! Here comes Nina. There she comes down the hill. Give us some wisdom.
Whoa!
Oh, that's my fault. Okay, give us some wisdom, Nina. What do you got? It's hard to keep trying. You did a great job. Great job, Nina.
Woo!
Okay, this is the scariest part for Nina, getting on these things. Let's go, Nina! You got it! Here she goes. She's going up. This is her fourth time. She fell twice and made it up once, and she's gonna make it up perfect this time. Look at her go! That's perfection right there. Good job, Nina! We're rooting for you. Yeah! Go, Nina, go!
How you doing, Evan?
Pretty good. Yeah. Yeah. Nina has been doing some awesome work. I kind of hurt my knee, so I took it a little easier today and hopefully I can rest up. And tomorrow our last ski day is awesome. Now we're in the after-ski, so you basically sit down at a crowded restaurant bar, have a coffee, have a cinnamon roll I think we ordered.
Yeah.
And a good way to end the day. And then we have New Year's Eve people coming over and we're going to do tacos, Norwegian tacos for New Year's.
Today is New Year's Eve, Ånikken, right?
Yeah.
What are we having for dinner? Oh yeah, we're doing Norwegian tacos.
Norwegian tacos.
Usually it's done on Friday, right? Usually it's done on Fridays and on some special occasions. So we have a tradition of eating tacos every New Year's Eve.
Ah, do you actually?
Yeah, I thought, I thought it was just for us.
No, no, no. Oh, it's actually—
yeah, because it's so easy to make and I don't want to spend a lot of time cooking. Yeah, that's good.
Yeah, we're ready.
Yeah, taco shelf.
Yep, all the sauce, all del paso. Let's go.
We bake the pizza because this is, this is the appetizer for us.
Yeah.
The famous Norwegian Grandiosa pizza!
Yeah, it's a legend—
actually you should do it!
No no no, you wanted this, this is your thing, you're eating it first! Okay Nina there it is try it, Grandiosa Pizza, better be grandioso! The legendary Norwegian Italian... Mmm!
It's not bad?
Not bad okay.
The dough, it's very thick. Okay. But it's not bad. Okay, good. Okay, Evan, your first time trying Norwegian tacos. You've been waiting for this for a long time.
Yeah, we're starting with the beef.
Yeah.
It's veal actually. Veal? It's veal.
Perfect.
And then we're going to some corn and cilantro and whatever that is.
Mango salsa.
Mango salsa. Is this the one here?
Spanish? Yeah.
Okay, got some green onions. We got some guac.
Yeah, and this is quite spicy, I think. This one?
Yeah. Oh, good. Cucumbers. Yep. Mangoes.
It's a lot of mango.
That's a lot of mangoes. I don't know what I'm doing. Corn. Try some of that. Sour cream. Anakin said to put the cheese on first, and now it's becoming like last.
It doesn't matter.
Okay, and then pineapple. Pineapples and tacos, that's how we do. Okay, done. Perfect. Yep, I got the pineapple.
Extra tasty though, you know why?
Because you made it.
I cut the pineapple. Yeah, it's good.
It's good.
Yeah, good.
Official taco party. Yeah, done.
Where are we going, Evan, after Paul's dinner?
We had too much tacos. Yeah, big tacos. Nina and I both had one taco too many. Yeah, so we're supposed to have dessert now, but everybody's full, so we're gonna go for a walk and then, uh, enjoy our dessert. Yeah, enjoy some free luft here outside.
Hey Evan, how are you doing?
Round 2, ready to go!
Fresh morning start.
That's it, let's go!
I love it.
Woo!
Evan, yeah, we're going down. This is your second down, second down, second time down. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, second time going down.
Big runs, now we're doing the little runs.
Yeah, he's gonna do the bunny hill with me.
Yeah, Nina's gonna work on my carving done and I'm gonna improve my technique. Yeah, always learning. And let's go, I'm excited. So Evan, how's it going? Let's go! It's snowing! Hemsedal! Time to snowboard and change the world! Believe!
Great coach! Great coach!
There she is. How you feeling, Nina?
It's good.
A bunch of hours later. Yeah, non-stop snowboarding. Yeah, she's finally getting her S-turns. Oh yeah, linking them up.
Yeah, I think that's the number, Evan.
Okay, that's us returning the snowboard. Good job, Nina.
Evan, what are we having right now?
Norwegian waffles. That's what they look like. If you're used to American waffles, these are way thinner.
Yeah, this is Very thin. Do you want to mix it up?
Okay, yeah, we brought maple syrup, Canadian maple syrup, so they could try that. I'm just trying to find the— the, uh, what we're gonna try is sour cream with jam, and then what's the other one?
Oh, with the brown cheese.
Oh, and the brown cheese, which is kind of caramelly cheese. It's kind of sweet cheese with the waffles. Both of them sound really weird. Weird to me, but I'm excited to try it. That's why we're here. This is the legendary brown cheese. What's it called? Yeah, yeah, there you go. So it's brown and you shave it and it tastes like caramel cheese, and you now put it on waffle. We've been eating this just plain.
No, with— yeah, plain or on the, on the bun. With a bun.
So this is kind of like a bun. It's good. Yeah, that's good. Evan's trying sour cream and strawberry jam on the Norwegian waffle. It's good. I can't taste the sour cream. I think we put too much strawberry jam on it. Let's go. Just taste strawberry.
Put the— put more sour cream on top of the jam.
Oh my gosh, I don't know how I feel about this. Sour cream. Okay, there you go.
Oh, you didn't save me a bite. Great, thank you.
I'll make you one. Why didn't I have anything left?
You like it?
I still kind of taste the sour cream, maybe a little bit. It's good. Yeah, better than expected. It's great.
We just finished dinner. We're going to go for a walk. Evan's taking a picture. When I flip the camera, I can see this beautiful mountains.
Oh, I thought you said this beautiful man.
And this handsome man. Wow. Handsome. Okay. Handsome man, not beautiful man, but handsome man. Understood. But this mountain is beautiful. And then over to look at these mountains here.
Okay, ready? Norwegians have a tradition of making sandwiches. They call it makpakke.
Mm, yeah.
And so we're going to— we're going to— Nina made this one. Yes. And now Anakin's going to show us how to wrap it. Oh, well, you fold it over like that, like this, and then wrap it. Okay, easy. Yeah, okay, it's like a little candy.
Here, our Norwegian baguette.
Yeah, perfect. Okay, that's lunch today. Yeah, off to Tromsø. Let's go.
Yeah, we just stopped, uh, at the Oslo Central Station, train station, pick up some coffee before we head to the airport. That's another 20-minute ride from here. Yeah, train, train.
Yeah, and then airplane to Tromsø. Tromsø. Yeah, planes, trains, and automobiles, all three today.
How's Let's go! We got to the lounge. We have 4 hours to chill, do some work. 4 hours? I think so. Okay. Flight's at 5-something. Oh, it's 3 hours now. 3 hours. Yeah, we're just gonna chill, do some work. Yeah. And then we're gonna have some salad and soup. I'm gonna have some salad and soup.
I already ate salad.
Oh, you ate salad?
I had salad. That was the first thing I got, but no soup.
All right, we are ready to go to our gate to Tromsø.
I thought you were filming yourself and I was going to get in there.
No, no, I'm filming you. You're the celebrity. I'm the videographer trying to do her job. Trying not to get fired.
You're doing great.
We just arrived in Tromsø.
That's pretty good. Yeah, she's been practicing for hours on that. They have Uber, let's go!
Yeah, yeah, we're gonna take Uber to our Airbnb, but, uh, it's a little bit longer, so we're gonna wait. It was kind of chaos to find this area, but we made it. This is Evan Carmichael, guys.
Let's go.
Yeah, it took a long time to find, but this is— it's a small area. This is a living room. Living room here has a TV, and then this is our cozy bedroom. Cozy bedrooms. No, no, no, no bedrooms, but bedroom. And there's a balcony here. Um, it's— look, when you look outside, it's actually very pretty. It's right by the water, and you see the light across on the building here. And then, and then there's a kitchen here, kitchen area. And then this is little area, I don't know what you do. You just put your— we hang out our coats there. And then my room. Okay, and then this is the laundry machine, laundry room, and the bathroom. Yeah, shower and the bath. Cozy. Yeah. All right, this is our home for the next 3 days.
Let's go.
Yeah, it is Saturday. Yep, Saturday. We're in Tromsø. Yep. Yeah, it is a nice sunny day right now. Yeah, it's a nice sunny day. It looks like at 3 PM in Toronto.
This is, uh, the sun at this time of year doesn't really come out. This is, this is max. You guys can see a little bit of the sun. Oh, a little bit of the sun.
Let's turn, let's turn this way. What a beautiful view!
Yeah, that's max. Well, it is a nice view. Yeah, yeah, that's true. That's what we wake up to. But that's max sunniness, peak sunniness.
Yeah, at this, it's noon right now.
Yeah, yeah. We're going to go explore Tromsø. Check out some coffee, some restaurants, the downtown area. And then tonight we are gonna go chasing the Northern Lights. It's supposed to be really bad percentage of, of having it. Yeah, getting it. The taxi driver's like, you're not gonna see anything.
Like, okay, great.
Well, that's just your opinion, man, because we're gonna find some tonight. Let's go!
We're heading into the city. Yep, it is 12:30.
Downtown Tromsø, let's go!
Evan, where are we going?
Oh, the most famous coffee shop here in Tromsø. In town, yeah, it's pretty busy.
Yeah, very busy actually.
Yeah, let me turn around. We'll have to get here late. Yeah, yeah, it's okay. I think the car's coming at Yeah, I love Kin Chow's.
Yeah, I love Kin Chow's.
Okay, riso.
Riso.
Riso. All right, we got a table right by the window. Nina's gonna have the cinnamon roll. First bite, there she goes. It's warm. Wow, that's all she says.
All right, that's nice. Okay, it's good. It's not too sweet.
Okay, good. Yeah, good.
Evan tried the omelette. Good, that's good. With that reaction, it's sweet. Why sweet?
Honey. I think honey.
Oh, that's weird. You got shocked by the sweetness.
Yeah, I wasn't expecting to be sweet.
Yeah, you know why? It's just sweet, just like you. I was gonna say that. So that was a pretty good, um, breakfast lunch— late, late breakfast, late lunch place.
It's 2 o'clock. Yeah, so it's a very late— but what time do you eat breakfast? It's a very late breakfast.
I don't really eat breakfast. Okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So that's—
yeah, we're gonna continue to explore. The seafood place that I want to take you to is closed, opens at 5. Yeah, but by that time we have to go on the Yeah, can we finish in 45 minutes and walk back? It's weekend. No, it's just more can they make it that quickly? Can we, can we be there for 4, 5 and ask them if we can be done by— we have to be there.
Yeah, okay, why don't you ask? Okay, we'll ask.
When you're on vacation, most important thing, just rush, rush.
Yeah. Okay, I'm not expecting to, um, do a hike like this. You can't even see Evan a little bit, but we have to climb up here.
We don't have to, but it's a scenic view of Tromsø, so we got an uphill hike.
Yeah, okay, we'll go. And there's no steps, you have to climb up to the hill. Go, Evan! Oh, I'm sliding. Okay, I need to put my phone away and climb up.
Here comes Nina, that little blob, little dot. We still have to go up another hill here. Come on, Nina!
I'm sliding.
Don't slide, hold on. You can already start to see the view though, look at that. Good job, Nina! Okay, you made it. Let's go check out this view.
It's worth it. I'm out of breath, but it is worth it. Look at this gorgeous lookout point. We're gonna stop by a restaurant for dinner before we head off to our Northern Lights chasing. Evan already knows what we're gonna order.
Some of it.
Some of it.
Famous for their fish soup, which Nina wanted to have. Yeah. And they have reindeer stew. So different. Nina loves—
different food.
No, no, she loves hot soupy food.
Yeah.
But it's a pretty big menu, so we'll see what else we can get. Okay. Moment of truth. We're here for the soup. Nina loves her soup.
It has salmon in it. It's great.
Okay, Nina loves her soup. I'm just okay with soup. Fish soup.
Oh, hot.
She likes hot.
That's good. Oh, good.
Very flavorful. Oh, nice. Okay, good. Good, good, good. Okay, fish soup is down. Okay, stop, stop eating the fish soup. Try some reindeer stew. Okay, there you go.
Okay, very good. Okay, good job, babe.
Yeah, I'm glad you like it.
We just finished our dinner. How'd you like it? It was, it was better than expected. Yeah, yeah, it was really better than expected.
Yeah, good.
Yeah, it's good food.
Is that because it was really good or because you had no— you had Crack expectations.
I have no expectations. No, but it's actually, even if I have expectation, it's good. It's good.
It's pretty good. Yeah. Okay, we've got about an hour to kill.
We're gonna walk it around.
Yeah, walk off to dinner. Yeah. And then head to chase some Northern Lights.
So I seen the videos, they're making bugs, but I see her, she's making a heart with the, with this mold. That's so cool. Oh my God, oh my God. Yeah. Oh, it's okay, the shape is still here. If you can see this one, that's so cool. How about yours? Can you do yours? It's a trend now, right, in China, right?
Oh yeah.
Oh no, you want to do it again? Yeah, do it. You could do it again.
Oh, it's not coming out.
Oh, here you go. Oh no, but it looks like this. That's a snowman. That's so cool. It is, uh, 20 minutes before we get picked up from— to go do the Night Chaser, to chase the Northern Lights. Uh, we're going to slowly make our way over. You can see Evan is leading the way cuz I don't know how to get there. We found our tour guide. It's a lot of people waiting, so it's harder to find because there's so many tourists right now at this time. Yeah, we're gonna go chase the light. All right, are you ready?
Yes.
Well, we're here. It's kind of hard to see through the camera, but it is. Let me point it out. Where's my finger? It's here. That they said that it is. It's kind of hard because the moon is so bright right now. We just got dropped off and we're going back to the Airbnb. We didn't see much.
Yeah, little, little tiny bits.
So cold.
And we spent 5 hours outside, something like that. Yeah, it's okay, it's an experience. We got that, we got a little taste, we got the taste, and, uh, glad we went. Tomorrow is Saturday here, Sunday, Sunday, and almost everything is closed. Uh, we might be able to find a coffee shop, fingers crossed, but all the regular stores are closed. So it's gonna be a chill day, but, uh, we'll find something magical to do, and we're gonna take you with us.
It is the next day. I woke up at noon.
Yeah, I'm not wearing my long pajamas.
Okay, I woke up at noon. Yeah, because I was so tired. We got, we got back at 2 last night.
I think we have to go back. Yeah, I have to put on my long, my long underwear.
Okay, let's go. That's fine though. Under layer, not underwear.
Yes, my base layer. Base layer sounds way cooler than pajama underwear.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay, uh, yeah, so this is what, 1 o'clock? 1 o'clock. 12:30 yet. Welcome to the sun. That's awesome. I woke up Nina because like, if you don't wake up in the next hour, you're not gonna get any sun at all. So that's sun. Yeah. So, but, uh, today is mostly a chill day. We're gonna find a coffee shop to do some work. And we have a 25-minute walk to our coffee shop.
Mm-hmm.
Get some morning— oh!
Exercise.
Exercise. But first, I need my—
Underlayer.
My base layer. Yeah.
We have arrived our destination. We're going to get some coffee. Have some breakfast, and then do some work, maybe. It is almost 4 o'clock. Yeah, I think we were at the coffee shop for almost 2 hours. Yeah, some work done. Yeah, I need 2 monitors, just easier, more efficient. Efficient. So we're gonna go back to the Airbnb and do more work. But before that, we're gonna go to a grocery store to pick up some vegetables because I'm craving for it a lot.
Two monitors. Yeah. Did you tell them how you almost had two husbands?
Oh my God. Yesterday we went to this, uh, gift shop and Evan was just walking around and he didn't even wait for me. He just walked away.
Wait a minute, hold on.
And then I, I just— I was like, wait, where's Evan? And I just look at this guy. I didn't really I didn't really see the face. I just look at this guy with a tall— wearing a black jacket.
Hold on, everybody's taller than you though.
No, and I thought it was Evan, so I just went straight for the hand. The guy was like, "Oh, who's that?" I was like, "Oh," and I was laughing.
Nina's grabbing random men's hands in Norway.
Yeah, without checking whether it's my husband or not because it's just wearing the same black jacket. Yeah. Evan and I, we stopped by this small convenience store, pick up some greens, vegetables, because we're craving for vegetables very much.
Yeah, I'm using ChatGPT to help us navigate. Yeah, so this one, we love these little cracker things. Yeah, cheese. This one is extra crunchy and light, flavored with sea salt and herbs. Okay, okay.
What's the other one?
Whole grains. Second one is extra crunchy like the first one, has pumpkin seeds.
Pumpkin Okay, so which one do you want to go for?
The third one. See, this is seed-based, not grain. Denser and heavier, very high fiber, much lower carbs.
Okay, you want to get the lower carbs one then?
Yeah, probably.
Yeah, it's better. Yeah, okay, let's get that one.
More fiber, I need fiber. Yeah.
So just making some grits.
This is grits.
Simple.
Greens, vegetables, vegetables.
Amazing. Yeah, it won't taste that good, but it's good. Okay. Oh my God, enjoy your—
and then fish and cauliflower.
Enjoy your dinner. All right, it is our last full day in Tromsø.
You're getting better at saying that.
Yeah, yeah, I'm blending into the—
yeah, you look Norwegian now.
You're blending in completely. I just need to grow a few Few inches.
Whoa, how did you do that? We're going to get coffee. Yeah, we're going to go explore the other side of the river where there's a beautiful church. Um, and then tonight we're going to the Sami Culture Experience. We're going to do some reindeer— they pull you on a reindeer sledding. And then I think a dinner, and then, um, hopefully Northern Lights.
Northern Lights.
I was looking last night, I didn't see anything. So we got a little glimpse before, but I'm hoping, I'm hoping tonight is the night. Let's go, let's go! We're walking through the bridge, the bridge to the other side of the town.
It is so dark and Man, it's so busy. Look at this traffic. It is only 2 o'clock, Evan? 2 o'clock? 2:30? Yeah, look at the traffic coming back to the city.
Last thing we're doing in Tromsø is driving to the Sami, where the natives of Norway, the Aboriginal people, and we're gonna hop on a tour. We're gonna spend about 45 minutes driving out to the local tribe, I guess. And we're going to get a reindeer sled under the stars and hopefully the Northern Lights. Yeah. And then take in some Sami culture. I think we eat with them and do a campfire or something, learn about their history.
Dance with them too.
Oh, are we?
Okay. I don't know.
Let's show them some salsa. We could trade moves. Yeah, that's our last thing in Tromsø before heading home. Not heading home. Heading to Oslo. Home? We've still got a week left. Let's go.
Alright, this is the moment. We're going on a deer sledding. Wow, my face is so red. It's so red. My cheeks are red, so red. But we just finished the deer sledding. We fed reindeer sledding, and then we fed the reindeer. I took a few pictures of Evan, uh, and he just ate my cookies perfectly. Yeah, okay, uh, we're gonna sit down, have some warm drink, warm ourselves up, and relax. Now they're serving us dinner. It's a 3-course meal.
Salmon.
First is a salmon, smoked salmon with salad.
And then reindeer stew. Yeah.
And then chocolate cake. Yeah.
Very traditional. Yeah, yeah. Okay, Nina's reindeer stew has arrived. There it is.
Very steamy hot.
Good. Yeah, Nina loves her soup. Okay, go. Go for it. You like it warm? Oh yeah, very hot. Too hot.
Very reindeer.
Very reindeer. That's not very descriptive. Very what?
Tender.
Tender.
Tender.
Yeah, tender. Very tender. Okay, good. You enjoying? You like your hot food? Yeah. Look at that, fine dining. Okay, adding some what?
Salt.
Salt.
Okay, good. We just got dropped off. Yep. From the bus, from the terminal. No, to the terminal. Yep. And then we're gonna go home, pack.
Yeah, yeah, we leave tomorrow.
Yeah. Oh wait, how about before that? How did you enjoy the Sami experience?
People are very nice. Yeah, yeah, good to learn the history.
Yeah, I really enjoyed the um, the history. Like, well, like, yeah, anyways, nice people.
Nina sang along. Yeah, Nina likes remembering words, so it was good. Yeah, yeah.
And now we gotta go home.
11-minute walk home, park, and then head to Oslo.
Yeah. All right, today, right now, we are leaving.
This is the first thing she said all day. Me too.
We just woke up at the airport. Yeah, goodbye, Tromsø. Thank you for the fun time. And, um, and I don't know, and what? What do you have anything to say, Evan?
And Oslo, here we come!
Sunlight! Yeah, sunlight. Looking forward to the sunlight. We just arrived in Oslo airport. We're going to take the train to the city and go to our Airbnb.
Sun! We have sun again! We have sun again! Vitamin D in the eyes. Let's go! We landed in Oslo. We're going to go to a lively area. We— what is it, 3 o'clock? So we don't have a ton of time, uh, but it's nice to see some sun. And, uh, ooh, there's a streetcar coming. Let me film it.
Next stop is the pizza place. You know, Evan loves his pizza.
The number one rated place in Norway is Mama Pizza. Yeah, most reviews 4.5 or 6, I don't remember. Uh, the chain here is called Pepe's, and you can find a Pepe's Pizza everywhere, but Mama Pizza is only in Oslo. And we'll see. I'm skeptical of Italian food in non-Italian cities, but I have high hopes and I love pizza.
And you know, it's not frozen and we're hungry and it's not frozen.
It's not grandiosa.
Yeah, this is the bruschetta. There's eggplant and the tomato. Evan is— Evan's going to do the test today because he's half Italian.
Good. Yeah, very fresh. Feels very fresh. Okay, bread's a little too crunchy, a little too crunchy, but fresh. It's really good.
Eat your pizza, Evan.
This looks, this looks fantastic.
Good.
Good.
Great.
This is the most popular thing on the dish, on the menu. Good?
Okay, good.
Perfect. Mina's going in on the tiramisu.
The cacao powder smells very strong. Okay.
Better than something else smelling very strong. So you got to take a double bite there. Just take a double bite. The double bite before commentary is wild. The triple bite before commentary is now extra wild. Okay. It's good. How did it take 3 bites to figure out that it's good?
Oh, I tried to mix the two, the white one and the black one together. The brown one.
All right, Nina's happy.
Good job. This is our second day in Oslo. Yep. Yeah, we're gonna go walk around.
We have light. Yeah, we have light. It's cloudy, it's rainy cloudy, but it's brighter. It's brighter. It's great. I love it. We're gonna go see Anneken, one of our Mastermind members who has been our host for a little bit in Hemsedal, which is awesome. And we're gonna— I'm gonna do a podcast for her channel. I don't know if it's going on a YouTube channel as well as the— I think it's going to both YouTube and audio. Uh, and then we're gonna go for a hike. Uh, Oslo is surrounded by forests, which people love to go cross-country skiing and hiking. I don't think it's enough snow for skis, so we're gonna go hiking through the forest. She warned us that it is cold, extra cold today, so we're— and humid, which makes it feel even colder. So we are layered up and we're ready for a great day. Let's go!
Look at this cafe with a huge door. Oh, someone almost fell. That someone is Evan Carmichael. Oh wow, sesame.
Different. Not very coffee, but I like it.
Evan and Anakin did, um, a podcast. While they were doing the podcast, I went for a walk with this girl. Yeah, she had fun and I got her a treat. Great. Yeah, yeah. So what are we doing next, Evan?
Now we're hiking in the forest. We're going to get some, some coffee and then hike in the forest.
Hey guys, what are you doing?
We're Christmasing.
Is this even legal?
Christmasing.
Okay, let's move this right here, okay?
Oh my God, Nina causes an avalanche here.
So this is what happens when you trust Norwegians to go out in the wilderness. It's an adventure. Fritidsliv, exactly.
Crazy. That was great.
I didn't film anything after we came back from the hike.
Uh, what do we do? Not much. We went grocery shopping. Bought some fresh food. Nina made some awesome eggs and salad, vegetables, vegetables, chicken.
We always crave for vegetables when we travel.
Yeah, so we just made— or Nina made sure that we just had it by going shopping. And then tomorrow we're gonna wake up and meet a friend of one of our team members for coffee, help her with her business, and then go sauna boating and then jump into the fjord. Jump into the fjord.
Cold. I can't swim, so we'll catch you.
And then lunch and, uh, more adventures. We'll see. A couple more days left on this awesome tour.
It is Thursday, second last day. Last day. Uh, we're going to meet a friend of our editor Christina's. Um, yeah, why are we meeting her? Because It's just nice to meet her.
Uh, I mean, I've been posting on Instagram that I'm here in Norway and a bunch of people reached out and want to get together and do a bunch of things, and the schedule's been, uh— anyway, we've said no to most things except this person is a close friend of someone on our team, Christina, our main video editor. So we've made sure to make time for that. So we're having coffee at a local coffee shop and then heading to the sauna boat boat with Annika. Let's go.
Okay, Evan, are you ready?
Sauna, cold plunge.
Yeah, you basically, you're in a sauna. It's just like a little house on the fjord, and then, uh, whenever you're ready, you do a little bit of sauna. Whenever you're ready, you could jump into the fjord to cool it down and then come back into the sun.
Yeah, yeah, that's how it is. Excited. She loves the cold. I don't know how I do today. I'm actually very like—
I have very low energy. I didn't sleep well.
Norwegians have an expression, it's never too late to turn back. So you don't want to do it, you don't have to do it.
Yeah, I don't have to. It's never too late. We're going to— well, at least try that out, right, to see how you like it.
Yeah, let's go.
So we're in the sauna boat. Anika using the brush to brush your— brush it towards your heart. Why is it better? Okay, so this is good for lymphatic drainage.
Oh, you're right, that was it. Yeah, yeah.
And then you wanted to brush into your heart? Yeah, towards your heart. I mean, you brush slowly. Oh, brush slowly. You don't have to rush. Yeah, on the can, you're very steamy hot. Okay, Evan's ready to go in. Just go, just go. Whoa, he jumped in!
Oh my God.
I said, wow, in Norwegian, go means like walk slowly.
I missed Nina getting in.
How was it, Nina?
I missed it.
Go back, go back. Okay, these two guys, they're gonna jump into the fjord. Okay, is it good, Evan? How you feel? Cold?
Fresh?
Fresh? Fresh. Okay, fresh, fresh. Good job. Okay, the boy's gonna jump down. Yeah, good job, good job, boys.
Wonderful. That was great.
Anakin is actually swimming in the fjord. Yes, it is like -9 whatever Celsius. 20 minutes night in the water?
No, the air.
Okay, okay. How much is the water?
Probably around 2 degrees.
2 degrees, yeah. It is very icy. The boat has to drive through the ice slowly, so that's part of the reason we go in 20 minutes earlier. But very icy. You can see a layer of ice on the water right now. Evan, how was your sauna and fjord experience in Norway? In Norway?
Sorry, in Norwegian.
Are you laughing at me? No.
Yeah, I don't think you're laughing with me.
It sounds like you're laughing. I'm not laughing. No, definitely not. I'm so impressed because you actually jumped from the roof.
Oh yeah, we jumped from the roof. That was good. The first time I jumped, she said go, and go means jump, but you're supposed to walk slowly down the ladder. I just jumped into the fjord. I thought I was doing it right, but anyway. And then we jumped from the roof, which was awesome. Super fun. When you hang out with Anniken, she's going to take you to have unique experiences that are definitely worth it.
Hardcore.
Hardcore happiness. That's right. Let's go. That was Good.
Our last day.
Yep, that's a big smile. I slept, I had the best sleep. I slept pretty well. I had the best sleep of the whole trip after the sauna session. Yeah, I came home and I napped for half an hour. It was so exhausted, and then I had the greatest sleep of all time. Well, not of all time, but since we've been here in Norway. So anyway, highly recommend. But here we go, we're going to pick pick up the red light device, explore— choke yourself— explore—
what? You choke yourself.
Oh, explore another part— oh my gosh— of Oslo. And, uh, last day. Take it all in, Nina. Here we go.
I didn't feel anything, but how was, uh, how was the meeting with the guy?
Oh, good. Wait, hold on. Yeah, you love this.
Wait, I love this thing.
Yeah, so Nina insisted on getting the FlexBeam. Yeah, before we left. Yeah, and, uh, this helped her with her wrist injury. It's a red light, intense red light therapy. Yeah, and they have a sleep protocol which I'm gonna try as well.
There's a lot of— you could do a lot with that.
Yeah, we met the marketing head. His name is E-V-E-N, but it's pronounced even, or Evan, almost. So like Evan and Evan, very If we started a company together, people would be very confused. Uh, where are we going? And gave them some YouTube advice and spreading some education and using great products to change the world. Let's go!
We're gonna stop here to get a coffee. Starbucks. Why are we here?
You want a coffee?
Yeah, I want a coffee. Yeah, well, that's why I'm here.
Oslo City, which is one of the newest malls with all of their, uh, brand name stores, and we saw Starbucks. Haven't had a Starbucks in a while, so we got a coffee and then we're going to keep it slim.
Next up is a lunch spot We're going to this lunch restaurant, King's Falafel. We're not too hungry, but just want to get a— to try some good food in the area. So Evan found this one, number one falafel place in Oslo.
Falafel King.
King's Falafel.
We got the mix. It's baba ganoush and hummus.
You like? Yummy? Yeah, I can tell by your expression.
Very fresh.
Good. That's good.
Enjoy.
Okay, Evan. Yeah, you're gonna try the phở. Yeah, no bread, the bread, the bread you dip into it, I think. Take the bottom. Yeah, yeah. The owner is so kind, he brought Evan us some tea. Hot tea in the cold weather like this, just warm you up, warm up your heart. Cool.
Very hot.
Very hard. Hard. Hot. Good. Hot. Yeah, yeah. We had a great meal. We're supposed to just do like a— I wasn't hungry.
Yeah, we weren't even hungry.
Yeah, we just got a falafel to share.
Yeah, because it was highly rated and and it ended up being an entire meal. Yeah. Uh, and then tea. And, uh, you know what, the, the, um, the Middle Eastern hospitality is, uh, it's, yeah, it's always really good. Yeah, it's always really good. You know, they care about their culture and explaining. If you show even a little bit of interest in the culture, they, they tell you what it's made up and where it comes from and the stories and give you more.
And they're very proud of their—
very proud. And the hospitality Every time we've gone to anywhere.
Yeah, yeah, it's great.
Very good. So yeah, so we're now very behind in our Oslo schedule, but it's okay. We're flowing with the go. Yeah, flow with the go. So let's keep flowing and going.
So we did a 10-minute walk along by the water. A little walk, right? Yeah. And then Evan said, oh my God, I'm so hungry right now, let me just go to—
just lying, you are lying.
I'm just joking.
We are at the most famous food court, the Mudholland Oslo, and there's a bunch of entrepreneurs selling their food, which I— we may buy something, uh, but we are pretty full, so it's just more be hungry with our eyes and not our stomach. And, uh, when you come to Oslo, you have to go to the Madhalla in Oslo, so here we are.
This is our last stop before we go back to the hotel to pack up.
Yep, also street food. Yeah, again, more entrepreneurs selling their food. Dog outside looking for its owner. Yeah, still not hungry, but we'll see. Who knows, maybe You want to buy something? Let's go!
Our last day. Well, not even last day. We're just— we're at the train station, catch a train to airport. But before that, we're gonna have a coffee. Wait, because we have— Evan has no sleep. I have a couple hours, probably.
I got 27 minutes. That's great. Oh, that's fine. We got 12 hours on airports, so see you at the airport. Get to relax. Yeah. How you feeling, Evan? Excited. Tired but excited.
Why are you excited?
We ran and we caught an earlier flight to go back. Yeah, Air Canada's partnered with Lufthansa, and they had a flight leaving like 10 minutes after we landed, but it got delayed. I'm like, ooh, maybe we can make the flight. And so we ran to the gate, had to go through security, yada yada yada, and we just made it. And they said, no, you can't get in.
Sadness. So we went to—
so we went to the Air Canada concierge. Let me see if I I can get you in. And she pulled some strings and got us in. So we're here, which is great because we go home 3 hours earlier. Yeah, we get to see what the Lufthansa sites look like and see the dogs.
Good luck. We landed, got out. Evan is sick. He just kind of walking— he just walked through, didn't want to talk to me anyway. But look at this YYZ Pearson Airport sign. Holiday feel. You feeling okay? No, no, he's not. He's not okay. He didn't sleep. And did you nap at the airplane a little bit? Yeah, he napped a little bit. Well, hopefully tonight he gets some sleep and feel better tomorrow.
And if you want to see our last trip to Greece, watch the video right there next to us. I think you'll love it. Continue to believe. We'll see you there.
