Tasting Europe: Food, Fun & Cruise Life on the MSC World Europa

In this travel vlog, Evan Carmichael and his companion Nina document their multi‑city European cruise aboard the MSC World Europa, beginning with a departure from Toronto and stops in Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Rome, Sicily, and Malta. The video blends itinerary details, on‑the‑ground explorations, and onboard life. Highlights include a room tour of their Yacht Club cabin, attempts to boost internet connectivity with a Starlink dish, extensive food tastings at local markets and restaurants (tapas in Barcelona, paella, croissants, gelato, cannoli, and regional specialties), visits to iconic landmarks such as Sagrada Família, the Gothic Quarter, Notre‑Dame de la Garde in Marseille, the Colosseum and Pantheon in Rome, and the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Malta. The vlog also captures personal moments—Nina’s health hiccups, Evan’s throat issues, their interactions with crew member Ivan and his partner Tamara, and casual activities like line dancing and a night‑time buffet. Throughout, the hosts provide informal commentary, humor, and occasional advice about cruise logistics (e.g., booking tickets, using the Yacht Club, and the unreliability of cruise Wi‑Fi). The narrative ends with the disembarkation process, final reflections on the MSC cruise experience, and a call to action encouraging viewers to consider MSC cruises.

We are going on the MSC Europa Yacht Club to Europe, leaving from Toronto. We're going to hit Barcelona, Rome, Malta, Genoa, I don't know, we're going other places and we're taking you with us.
Let's go!
I'm also— what? You know, I didn't expect to pause, but yeah, we're bringing, uh, oh yeah, we're bringing a Starlink with us because we're bringing a Starlink because the cruise internet is not That's good. Cruise Wi-Fi usually sucks, so this is our first time trying Starlink.
We bought the Starlink just because we have— we can work and do some business stuff, you know.
We'll see.
Yeah, it's a big lineup.
Yeah, it's a big lineup.
Oh yeah, it's international, so it's a big airplane that we're going to get get on. What were you working on the last hour?
I don't remember. AI stuff.
AI stuff.
Yeah, AI stuff.
Okay, we're going to hop on the plane and go to— where are we stopping over? Lisbon.
Lisbon.
We're stopping over Lisbon.
Toronto, Lisbon, Lisbon, Barcelona.
Yeah, we just got off the plane.
We landed at Lisbon, layover.
Lisbon, Portugal.
Yeah, stopover.
We've got an hour or something to get to our connection.
An hour? I thought we have 2 hours, no? Do we not have 2 hours layover here? I don't know. Okay, well, we're making our way.
Wow, Nina slept very well on the flight.
I slept so bad. So poorly because it was so hot on the plane. They don't have air.
And then she started sniffling like crazy and woke me up. Let's go.
We made it! We made it to Barcelona.
Yep.
I fell asleep.
Yep. Yeah, so we have half a day today. We'll see, we'll see what time we crash. Then tomorrow we're gonna see the famous famous church and then head to the boat, and we'll do a little— some fun things along the way.
But what are we doing tonight?
Oh well, depends, depends how much energy we have.
I'd nap a little bit.
First stop is to get to the hotel. Yeah, but, uh, we'll probably head to the Gothic Quarter, do Las Ramblas, which is the main street, uh, get some food, and then see what—
paella, paella, paella, I don't know, the rice with the seafood. Yeah. Yeah, that's their famous dishes. We just checked in.
We're gonna do a room tour.
We're gonna do a room tour at 3 o'clock. Yeah, yeah, need some light. This is an office chair. Evan's gonna work here. This is Evan's office for the next 10 hours. This is a walk-in— well, kind of walk-in closet. I need to take my shoes off because we don't wear the shoes inside the house. This is our house for the next 12 hours, 24 hours, whatever. And then here is the bathroom. Bathroom. It's a nice bathroom with little stool. Oh, there's a shower here too. No, it's not a shower. Is it a shower? Oh, it is a shower. There's another shower here, and then do your business here. This is Evan Carmichael here.
Okay.
Yeah.
Then here, this is— oh wow, nice. Oh wow, nice. It's a huge bedroom. It's a huge room, but you know what though? And then look there with the terrace. Holy cow, we actually got upgraded with an outdoor shower for you. Really?
Yeah, your favorite thing to do is shower.
Yeah, to shower outdoor, but people could see. Yeah, the neighbor could see. Yeah, it's nice. So Evan, you want to tell the audience why we get— why we got upgraded to this room?
They fell in love with Nina.
Oh no, no, absolutely not.
Then we were here. So now we're gonna quickly unpack whatever we need to unpack, not much.
Yeah.
And then we're gonna start heading out. We have not slept at all, uh, and tomorrow we head on the boat, uh, MSC Europa. And so we're gonna do a little bit of touring around Barcelona until we crash, sleep, wake up.
Let's go.
We dropped everything off.
It's a small elevator. Yeah, perfect Nina-sized elevator.
And we're gonna, we're gonna go out, walk around the, the Strip a little bit.
The what?
The Strip. Strip.
Oh yeah, Strip. The Ramblas, the Gothic Quarter, the cathedral. Yeah, Nina's gonna take it all in, give you a taste.
Give me a taste of Barcelona. Yeah.
This is the old part of the city.
Okay.
Uh, back to the Gothic days, and that's a famous bridge that connects some of the buildings together and just a symbol of the architecture here in the city. We don't get to go on the bridge, but you can look at the bridge.
Where are we going next, Evan?
Uh, Nina's starving. Yeah, it's like wants to eat the garbage on the street. Like, you can't eat the garbage on the street. We're gonna have some tapas, so we're going to a pretty famous tapas place, 4.7 stars with like 6,000 reviews, so we can feed the beast.
All right, this is the restaurant.
I'm ready to eat. I'm ready to have—
that's your message?
Yeah, yeah. Nina is a big foodie, so you're, you're snobby too. I'm not the biggest Spanish food fan, but it's fun. Tapas is great for Nina because you get different, different little things to try. A whole bunch of different things. So it's a set menu here, so we're gonna have their set menu. And then they're famous for their mango mojitos that I'm gonna try, and Nina got a sangria.
Try it, see if you like it or not.
Cheese.
Oh, okay.
I like cheese.
That was a good meal.
Yes.
Yeah, they tried— we tried out very, like, a lot of different food and very full. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Good.
Yeah, yeah.
Now we need to walk it off.
Yeah, I was so tired in there. Yeah, I think it's dark atmosphere, it's red light everywhere. Yeah, I got so tired. It's not the dog here. And this dog's not happy.
Yeah, he's barking at that guy. That's kind of Nina when she sees me in the morning.
Oh no, that is just me. That's just me. Yeah, it is. We're gonna walk it off.
She's peeing in the streets.
Burn it off.
Yeah.
Yeah, okay, let's go. We just woke up. We were checked out, we packed everything. We have to go to this thing Evan booked.
So yeah, Nina slept 10 hours.
10 hours last night. I was feeling really bad, like after dinner— well, dinner, 4 PM dinner— I was— I started to get congested, sneezing a lot. And then we walked to the pier a little bit outside I have to hold on to Evan because I feel like I'm gonna fall over. Yeah, that was last night, so we just went back to the hotel and I slept. Slept till 8 this morning.
Yeah, Nina's a chatterbox.
What the heck?
We are going on the cruise today, very exciting. But before that, we're gonna go to the famous church here in the city. We booked our tickets and we're gonna walk 40 minutes to get there, uh, then go back, go to the market, pick up our luggage, and head to the cruise.
We're here, Evan! We got here 10 minutes early with our speed walk. Most famous church in Spain. Why so famous?
Uh, the architecture.
Oh yeah, it looks very different.
It's very different. That's very cool.
Yeah. All right, we're done. Are you excited, Evan? There were people— anyways, yeah, we're finished.
What are you talking about? Oh, people in front of us? Yeah, that's why we don't do group tours.
Yeah, I finish things very fast.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, people get stuck behind people, but it's fine.
Yeah, it's okay.
Yeah, they, they enjoy the scenery, experience history, and we get to enjoy looking at their backs. Yeah, yeah, anyway. We're gonna go to the market, the famous market, get some food, pick up our bags, head to the boat.
Where are we, Evan?
Nomad Coffee Bar. Specialty coffee.
Specialty coffee. Yeah, that's what we've been waiting all day. We just finished our coffee.
That was good.
Yeah, it was a good coffee.
Yeah, yeah, they take their coffee seriously.
Yeah, very seriously. A lot of different variety.
Yeah, yours tasted very fruity.
Yeah, I like it. Yeah.
Okay, market and then boat.
Yeah.
We are at the market, the Boqueria Market. Lots of local vendors, entrepreneurs selling their food and trinkets, and we'll see what Nina gets hungry for so we can nom nom nom eat down. It's a paradise for food lovers.
Why is it paradise for food lovers?
Uh, that's what the reviews say. It's a paradise for food lovers. So Nina's a food lover.
You're too, no?
Uh, kind of, but Nina more.
We got a beef Beef?
No, no, chicken burrito and a cheeseburger and bananas.
All I have is bread for now.
Nina has been craving paella, so we found the place. These guys up here. And Nina gets her first taste of Barcelona paella, nice and hot. Good? Tasty. All right, yummy. Let's dig in. We got some ice cream, stracciatella and Snickers. I've never had Snickers ice cream.
That's a huge ice cream.
Done.
We just finished the market. It's very crowded. Yeah, very crowded. Did you enjoy the market?
He's cold. My mouth, my tongue. Yeah, it's getting busier and busier and busier right now, so we're gonna get our— we left our bags at the hotel.
We're gonna pick them up right now.
Yeah, and then head to the cruise ship.
All right, we arrived in our cabin. This is our cabin. This is the, the bed, our working station. This is Evan Carmichael, and there's a couch right here, and then it looks out to outside. This is— I think it's a— oh, it's a closet. So we have two closets. You get one and I get one. Perfect. I get the big one.
Sounds good to me.
Mirror.
This one is mine.
And then this is the bathroom here. We dropped off our suitcase. I unpacked everything. We tried to set up the Starlink. Now we're gonna go walk around the boat, see what they have to eat, because I'm kind of hungry actually. We just finished lunch and we bumped into Evan. Bump into Ivan.
Ivan's been on the team for how long? 8 years?
9 years?
Okay, and so now we're cruising together with his Amazing girlfriend, girlfriend, fiancée, wife.
How was meeting up with Evan? Evan? Evan? Evan? Evan Carmichael?
Meeting myself was great. The conversation was off the charts. So amazing. I wish I could do that, you know, all the time.
Sorry, it's Ivan. Ivan. But they also— also people in Serbia call him Ivan, you know, Evan.
No, Ivan.
Ivan. Okay, well, so close. Yeah. All right, we're gonna go for dinner and then meet back with them for dancing. Maybe.
Well, we're gonna dance. We'll see if they do.
So it's closed. Apparently the dinner— oh, not that, this. Oh yeah, the dinner won't start till 6:30. We didn't know that they start at 6 o'clock, right?
6:30.
Yeah, 6:30. So we had to wait. We went back to the cabin.
Yeah, it's okay, we're ready.
We just finished our dinner. Evan's walking in front of me, he's camera shy right now.
I'm what?
Camera shy.
Camera shy? Yeah, true.
Yeah, we're gonna go back to the room to, um, to check on something, and then, uh, tell them what we're checking out. Oh, okay. We bought a Starlink.
Why is it such a secret?
Well, I don't, I don't know if you want to tell or not. Yeah, we got a Starlink to see if, um, we're able to do some work without the— well, we have internet package, but it just, uh, internet is very slow. Yes, let's see if restarting will give us a better internet. Yeah, it hasn't been working well so far.
The balcony is covered, so we're gonna see if it has unfiltered access to that to see if it's better to be outside on the, uh, the deck. Apparently my Apple Watch doesn't unlock.
Yeah, no, Apple Watch doesn't work.
They give you this for yacht club. Yeah, I don't know why I thought it would be my Apple Watch.
All right, so that's our next, um, thing that we need to do. Yeah. We walk around Deck 19, Deck 18, Deck 20, 21 to find a power. Nothing. We got nothing. Nina tried to be nice to a bartender, asked if we can just plug it in at the bartender.
No, ma'am, not allowed. No, not allowed, Nina. You're breaking the rules, Nina. Not allowed. Even though there's nobody there and it's outside.
Yeah.
Doesn't matter. Nina is a rule breaker. I always follow every rule.
That's very funny. And then, uh, yeah, and then we walk around to see if, um, the buffet area in the— for the yacht club only. But it's just— it's a sit-down dinner. It's not a— it's not a, um, buffet. Yeah, we're gonna drop off— Evan's gonna drop off his stuff, and then we may go dancing. Maybe, maybe, maybe. He just opened the door and left me. He didn't even open the door for me. I have to open the door myself.
Wow, that's true love.
That's not true love. Is it true love? I'll let the audience decide. We got a bottle of champagne here, so we're thinking to give it to Ivan as a nice gesture. So now we need to find him. Hello! For you guys. Oh, there you go.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Good morning, it is the next day. We are in Marseille.
Nina slept amazingly well.
No, I slept very poorly. I have a really bad headache and I feel like I'm getting sick again.
Don't say that.
Yeah, yeah, vacation's the best. Yeah, and we're going to meet up with Ivan and then head out, pay the tender and head out together, and we're going to enjoy our day in Marseille. Okay, we made it out. Yeah, yeah, they didn't make the announcement. That's okay. Yeah, they told us we could—
we enjoyed our coffee.
Yeah, Evan had a Look at the sunset, sunrise behind you.
Yeah, yeah. All right, Marseille, here we come.
We just got dropped off.
Yep, I'm planning our route. We got a 51-minute walk uphill.
51 minutes walk uphill, really?
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
To the, to the We can Uber if you get tired.
We'll see. Okay, I'm not feeling so well, but we'll see.
What, what helps when you're not feeling well is a 51-minute uphill walk to the Notre Dame Cathedral.
Let's go. Evan, where are we going? We're going to—
Nina needs to go to the bathroom, so we're gonna go to, uh, get a coffee. Yeah, pretty famous coffee place, Cafe Lau Ka.
Cafe Lau Ka, where? Oh, this one right here. Here.
Wow, this is tiny.
Yeah, I don't think they have a latte.
You may not.
Yeah, they probably not.
Pumpkin spice latte.
It's a to-go. No, they don't have one.
But popcorn latte?
We passed by a bakery store and it smells really good. Yeah, so, uh, let's go, let's go get a croissant. Yeah, let's get a croissant. And Evan said this store is 4.5 stars, so that's good. Cheers, Evan. Cheers to croissants. Hey, cheers to croissants.
Cheers to croissants.
Let's see. Try it.
Good?
How's the croissant?
Better than the cruise one. That's his criteria. When in France, you have to have croissant.
Yeah, croissant is great. We trust our nose. Now we're going back to the coffee shop to get a coffee.
How do you say cheers in Serbian? Huh?
Jiveli? Jiveli?
Yes.
With an L?
Yes.
Jiveli.
Yes.
Jiveli.
Not bad.
It's funny, they say it's sweet. This is— this is not sweet. This is like salty. This is like, I'd say, half as sweet as a frappuccino in the US.
Good though.
Yeah, it's got— it's like a caramel popcorn kind of vibe to it. I like it.
It's good.
We're going to the Notre Dame Church, the most famous church here in Marseille. It's a hike. Yeah, it's a hike.
It's uphill. We have to go uphill. Yeah, yeah.
It's at the— Marseille is on the water Yeah, so it's at, it's at sea level, but then they built the church up on the biggest hill in Marseille. So we are about 10 minutes away. It was good to have our coffee before going. Almost there.
We made it up to the top.
How you doing?
I'm so tired.
You did great.
Yeah, my back is—
hip hip hooray for Nina!
My back is sweaty right now.
A little morning sweat is good for everybody. Let's go.
Why do you think so?
It's just true.
How was the cathedral? Great. Yeah, yeah.
Now we're making our way back to, uh, the city. We're gonna go have lunch at one of their famous restaurants, and their most popular dish is octopus. Uh, maybe. This is octopus, so I don't know. I mean, I don't know how to prepare it. Yeah, but Nina's gonna love it.
Yeah, calamari. The restaurant, the restaurant that Evan planned, they actually closed, and I just captured Ivan and Tamala kissed. Kissed?
Yeah, you got them kissing? Yeah, let's go! Okay, so, uh, the restaurant is closed. We're not gonna get Octopus, so we're gonna get a French baguette at another famous sandwich shop here.
Yeah, okay, this is the backup restaurant. Baguette, we're gonna have some baguette. I actually like, I like French baguette. So I got a soup because it's cold, but I don't know why I asked Working life to eat my soup.
Yeah, you're drinking from the bowl.
Yeah, that's a fish soup.
Cod.
Cod soup.
Yeah, and then got a cod sandwich.
Smells good and tastes good.
Lobster roll.
It's good.
Not a soup person.
Yeah, that's good. I like it. And then try your aioli.
This is what they're most famous for.
It's almost crunchy.
How are your sandwiches?
Pretty good. It's more that we went more for, uh, you to have your soup.
Yeah, the soup is good.
Yeah, Nina likes soup. Makes her feel all warm inside. Yeah, it's cold outside right now, and the next stop is supposed to be a famous ice cream shop, but I don't know, we'll see as we walk there if we feel hungry enough to have it.
Where are we going, Evan?
La Bourse. It's the famous mall here in Marseille.
You want to go shopping?
Oh, we'll just take a quick look. Nina's the only one walking in the stores so far, so maybe we'll find you something.
Maybe. Where are we going next, Evan?
Uh, last, uh, last popular vibrant area before heading back to the—
what's, what, what, what's special about this lively food area?
I don't remember, but it's a vibrant area and we get to climb some awesome stairs.
Oh, I don't really like it.
It's very happy about the stairs.
Heaven just want me to suffer. What? You just want me to suffer?
Why?
Walking all these stairs and uphills.
Getting in shape. Work on those calves. Oh, we lost Ivan.
I'm not feeling too well, Elias. You have to walk these stairs.
I think by the time you get to the top of the stairs, you're going to feel a lot better. Yeah, we're gonna head back to the boat. Yeah, we still have 3 hours until the last bus back to the ship, but yeah, uh, Nina is not feeling so well. We did most of the major things, so we're gonna Oh, I'm now eating hair. We're gonna go back to the boat. Ivan is gonna keep walking around and Nina's gonna go nap probably. I'm gonna chill, nap. I'm gonna get some work done and we'll show you what happens that's next. It's awesome.
Right after that.
So I was really tired. I just, I just, I was just staying in the room. Yeah, because I was so tired. Okay, Evan will say he's gonna go upstairs, get some food, and then, um, he, he surprised me with 2 decaf cappuccinos. Oh, okay, that's nice.
Yeah, yeah, soup, because you like—
yeah, yeah, he came down with soup. Yeah, and then like 10 minutes or 15 minutes later—
we're getting rid of the Starlink.
Yeah, it's not working, not working.
Zero internet. So yeah, that is— yeah, don't bring your Starlink on a cruise ship and hope to get internet.
Yeah, yeah, not working. Yeah, and then 10 minutes later, we have food came to the room from service. Yeah, what did you order? Pasta? Mussels pasta? That looks great. What is this? Oh, it's a salad. Salad with fish. You know what, I was like, huh, we haven't had any salads. We need to have— I'm gonna eat some salads. I was just thinking in my mind, but he just, he just know. Evan just knew everything.
Here's the thing, husbands, if you want to be a great husband, you have to be a mind reader.
And then what else? What's this? Oh, another pasta. Oh, that's nice.
Yeah, I get one too.
Oh, you're so nice, Evan. We're gonna eat together and cheers together, and that's it. When you put it up there, just remember to take it because I'm not gonna remember.
It's with your clothes. You're gonna see it.
Oh, okay.
You remember, you're Nina. If you say you're not gonna remember, you're not gonna remember. I believe and trust in your memory.
Okay, okay, gonna enjoy our lunch. How are you doing, Evan? He had an hour and 10 minutes nap. I napped for 45 minutes. Yeah, you feel better?
Uh, no, I feel worse.
Oh, you feel worse? Oh, that's not good. Okay, just have some food and we go, go relax. Tonight is pretty good.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, fun. Sorry, just catching up on work. Gotta get some stuff done before we go to bed. Nina's gonna shower, I'm gonna work, and then tomorrow wake up and go to Genoa.
Good morning! Today we are at Genoa, Genoa, Italy. Italy, yeah.
Nina slept awesome last night.
I slept pretty good, but my readiness was not good because I had food before, and my food did not digest well.
I did not sleep well.
Oh, sorry.
But this is our first stop in Italy. Yeah, which is great. I'm all excited. Get some Italian food, coffee, all the things.
Evan, where are we going?
We're going to a specialty coffee house to get our first Italian coffee of the trip.
But it's just in a— in this like a alleyway that no one is at right now.
It's closed. It's just opening up. It opens up— it opened up 1 minute ago.
Okay, okay, let's go. Jivalee, Jivalee. How's your coffee, Evan?
Pretty good, pretty light. Yeah, the pastry was really good. Looking forward to the parmesan chocolate that Nina is holding right now. Yeah, and we're walking through one of the main streets and heading to the main square where there's lots of activity and shops and things around.
It's pretty busy here too at 9 AM.
Yeah, it's just opening up. Everything basically opens at 9, so there's something still closed, but it's starting to open up.
Hola.
Hola?
Yeah.
No, hola is Spanish.
I don't know how to say— huh, how do you say good morning? Buongiorno.
Buongiorno.
Buongiorno. Okay, where are we going?
Uh, we're going to a market.
What's, what's special about this market that we have to go?
Uh, I don't know, they just recommend going to the market. Entrepreneurs selling their stuff.
Oh, you like those stores?
Yeah, we'll see who we find. Maybe some, uh, something special for Nina.
Everything is closed except for the books. They only have books, uh, Sunday.
Sunday in Italy, lots of things are closed.
Yeah.
Uh, next we're gonna head down, um, to where the art galleries are, and there's nice architecture and stores around, and we'll see what's open.
Evan's very hungry.
No, I'm not very hungry.
Oh, okay.
But we're going to a famous focaccia. When you're in Italy, you have to have focaccia, and there's a famous focaccia place here, so we're in line, which is, you know, typically means it's popular. It got a lot of good reviews, so we're gonna try some.
Yeah. Okay, try yours, Evan. It's good. I can't feel your excitement. To me, it's just bread and cheese.
Yeah, just bread and cheese.
Yeah.
What the— we're sending you back home, okay? You can't say that in Italy.
What's next, Evan?
This is the Old Port here in Genoa. Yeah, I think it's chopped person walking, and, uh, we get a nice view of our boat behind us too.
We're just going to shops.
Yeah, walking around.
Okay, where are we going?
Uh, we're going to go get Nina a Starbucks.
Oh, okay. I was thinking in my mind, I said Evan likes to suffer.
I like to suffer?
Yeah, because we kept going through these little alleyway dark Smelly. And then uphill stairs.
This is Europe, Nina. This is Europe. This is what it's like. Okay, let's go. Okay, Nina wants a warm drink, so we're gonna— we're gonna— different part of town. There's also some vibrant areas. Actually, yeah, whenever you're traveling, wherever there's a Starbucks, there's usually stuff around it. So there's only one Starbucks in Genoa. We're gonna go there and check out the area. But it's, uh, it was a 20-minute walk. Now we're only 8 minutes away.
Staying close to me.
We sat down at the Starbucks, had some coffee, chill a little bit, and Evan's taking me to the Victory Arch.
Like the Arc de Triomphe but smaller and Italian.
In Italy.
In Italy, yeah. And then we're gonna get Nina some ramen.
Yeah, well, you know what, in, um, when you go to Italy, you go to ramen store.
You have to have ramen.
Yeah, because it's very cold.
Not pasta.
Oh, we could have pasta. Let's have pasta. Pasta is warm. Now we're gonna stop for lunch.
We're back to the ramen place.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, because Evan really loved the ramen.
Uh, being half Italian, it's very difficult for me to comprehend having our first sit-down Italian meal at a ramen place, but it's fine. I'll be okay, and Nina will be happy.
It's close enough, you know.
Yeah, yeah, we'll be fine. I'm okay, I'm okay. Breathe. I'm okay.
We just finished our lunch. Uh, right now we're gonna go get some gelato because Evan really wants an Italian gelato.
Yeah, we can't—
we just go back, we just go, uh, back to where we came from. And this street is a lot life alive right now. You can see a police carrying two rifles— gun? No, are they carrying guns? Oh, okay, I can show it later. I think it's gun. No, it's not good. It's still sticks.
I think people don't sneak up on the police with their sticks.
Yeah, yeah, we're ending with a great Italian gelato.
Yeah, yeah, the food was not great. Yeah, well, for me, which makes me happy because the best, the best thing to eat in Italy can't be— okay, we're gonna go get gelato right now so that the Italian gods strike us down, we're gonna end with some gelato.
Okay, okay, try it.
The pistachios, they're legendary flavor. Oh wow, the pistachio is really good. Then I got Fior di Latte. And she has stracciatella and salted caramel. How is it? Oh my God, Italians do gelato right. Yeah, had a possession.
Very creamy.
Yeah, it's great. Delicious.
It is 6. 6:36.
Yep.
We napped a little bit when we got back to the cabin. And then Nina went deep sleep. Oh, I don't know. But I was at it. I had a good nap. Yeah. Right now, 6:36. We are not hungry, but we're gonna go for dinner.
Yeah, that's what you do on a cruise.
You just eat. I'm just gonna see if they can give me me just some vegetables.
Good news is you don't gain weight when you eat on a cruise. That's the rule.
That's not true. The opposite. Yeah, I'm just gonna ask them if they have some vegetables. I just want some vegetables. Good morning, Evan.
Good morning.
I went to look for you.
Okay, I'm here.
Yeah, he got us some coffee, flat whites and some croissants. Cheers, guys. Okay, good morning. We made it on to the car to Rome. It will take us an hour and a half, hour and a half, yeah, to get there.
Yeah, there's a bunch of options that go from Civitavecchia to Rome. You can take a train, uh, you could take a cab, uh, but we wanted to make sure that— I wanted to make sure we got there on time, so we booked a private van both ways. We found it.
Yeah.
We just got into Rome. It is so cold, Evan. Very cold.
It's okay.
You're not cold? Yeah, it's cold, but I'm not dressed. I'm not dressed for this weather.
Okay, hold on. Look, turn around.
Look where we are. Right?
And that's it.
That's all you need to know.
Our first stop is coffee because we're early. We're early. We can't get into Colosseum yet, so we're gonna get a coffee first. Evan, what did you order?
Orange juice, croissant, cappuccino. Uh, chocolate croissant.
Why orange juice?
Orange juice is the number one thing on the menu here, most popular thing. So we got our croissant here, we got our mini chocolate, and we got cappuccino. And did we— oh, and you got a sandwich?
Yeah, I got a spinach, sun-dried tomato sandwich.
They're both great.
That was the best orange juice I've ever had in my life. It was great. The cappuccino was good, sandwich was good, the croissant was good. Croissant was good. Oh yeah, everything is good.
I like the sandwich because it has a lot of spinach in there, which I'm craving for greens right now. Yeah.
It's great. So now we're heading to the Colosseum. We have tickets to get into the Colosseum. You have to book in advance to go a specific time, so we have our show— our show— our entrance starts in half an hour. So we're gonna walk to the Colosseum. Nina insisted on going inside the Colosseum because I've never been.
It's something you have never seen and is famous for. You should go.
So that's what we're gonna do, just for Nina.
We're in! Almost.
Yep, yep, we got in 5 minutes early. Means everything to me. It's the best.
I love it.
Okay, you gonna explain me everything, Evan?
Uh, we're here at the Colosseum, and then And we're gonna walk around. Huh?
Where are we standing right now?
We're standing at the entrance of the Colosseum, and we're gonna go in. So that's my explanation.
Okay, Colosseum is done.
Yep. How'd you like it, Nina?
I like the history and like, I like to see the stuff, but one thing I do not enjoy is the crowd.
She's fighting with people. Oh, out of my way, I'm filming! Out of the way, out of the way!
I didn't— no, I don't do that. I, I— no, I don't do that. It's just when I try to film, people like to stand in front of me and my camera, like get into my shots. That's why I get like not happy with it.
Yeah.
Anyway, let's move on. What's What's next?
Roman Forum is next. Let's go!
What is this?
Italy. It's a statue, uh, to Victor Emmanuel, who was Italy's first king.
You're enjoying your, your half of the day in Rome right now?
My half of the day?
Yeah, half of your day. Yeah, half of today. Yeah, doing stuff. Yeah, enjoy.
Any day with Dina is a good day.
What's the highlight so far?
Uh, Nina being happy going into the Colosseum and body checking people.
And I didn't body check—
throwing them over the rails and just anything to get the shot.
That's not true.
Next up, we're going to the place where Julius Caesar was killed, uh, which is an archaeology area that is now home to a large colony of cats. Cats. So we'll see if we can find any cats.
Oh, okay.
And then off to a famous Roman bakery.
So this is it. Yeah, we need to find some stray cats.
Yeah, it's closed right now, so you can't go in. But, uh, I also don't see any cats. It's even too cold for them to come outside.
They're hibernating.
Oh, there's one!
Oh yeah, yeah, I see it. Try a piece.
No, no, you gotta see the mozzarella. There.
Oh yeah, it's very hot, very hot. Is it good though? It's too hot that you can't taste it. Okay, let it cool down a bit. This one is a rice ball with mozzarella cheese in there. Mozzarella. Taste it, Evan. This one, it won't be too hot.
Spicy.
It's a— I think it's a tomato sauce.
Yeah.
Is it hot? No, it won't be too hot now. It's cold. But is it good though? It's good, it's good, yummy. Evan's gonna try pasta. Oh my gosh, this one just came out. Lunch is done, lunch is done. Evan is very happy with the restaurant that he picked. Yes, it's great.
There's a huge lineup now.
Yeah, yeah, we got lucky.
Yeah, well, it wasn't so much luck as it was Nina saying we should go early before it gets busy, and now the lineup is across the street. Yeah, of people who want to get in. We're probably gonna see people behind us soon in the shot. It's because they're standing in line for the restaurant.
Yeah, yeah, because their pasta is homemade pasta, organic.
It's called, uh, Osteria da Fortunata. That's the restaurant. Okay, next up, Piazza Navona. Piazza Navona, famous piazza, lively square. Usually they have a fountain. It may not be on because it's cold, because it's winter, but we'll see. And then we're gonna go Pantheon, pizza, ice cream, and keep going.
No, and then, um, oh my God, what's the dessert? What's the dessert in the, in the cannoli?
Yeah, I don't have a cannoli place planned for here, but if you have one, if you really want it, Nina, I'll make it happen.
How do you not have one?
Cannoli is famous Okay, I guess, you know, if Nina's gonna eat a cannoli herself, then we need to get a cannoli.
Yeah.
Okay, let's go.
Evan's been talking about this pizza place the whole time. There's a huge lineup.
There's not a huge lineup.
Yeah, he's been talking about this pizza place since we, uh, at the spaghetti restaurant.
Yeah, yeah, it's a lineup. Okay, but that's not that big lineup. I think we can do it, we can manage this one.
Yeah, he said he's hungry, very hungry.
I'm not hungry, but there's always I'm doing for pizza. That's the rule.
And cannoli.
Yeah, and ice cream.
Ice cream's next.
This is what you've been waiting for. It's good.
Really good.
Oh my God, we got two cannoli. One is the regular one, one is the pistachio one. Evan found this last minute, and you said you wanted cannoli. Yeah, and then we— he's very excited to give it a try.
So good. Perfect. Really good.
You got to try the other one.
Let me love it.
Just let, let you just enjoy it first. Okay, try the pistachio one.
Really good. I don't like pistachio, but it's really good.
Next up is the famous ice cream.
Yeah, 4.7 with 15,000 reviews. Yeah, Nina just wants gelato like crazy, so here we are.
Yeah, yeah, what I want to eat is gelato.
Yummy.
Good.
Happy Nina is happy life. Oh my God, it's so good.
What's our next stop?
Spanish Steps.
Why are we coming here?
Uh, very famous area. It was— it's got a butterfly staircase. Uh, an architect, a French architect, asked for them to make it this way. And so people relax on the Spanish Steps, have their lunch, hang out. It's a meeting place, lots of restaurants and shops and things around it. Just a really vibrant area.
Evan's gonna toss a coin to the witcher.
Okay, we're at the Trevi Fountain. This is our— Nina's getting distracted by dogs. This is our last stop in Rome before getting back in the private van. Go meet Claudio. And, uh, it's so crazy busy. I've never seen it this busy. There's a lineup to get down to the main area, and we don't have time to stand in line because we gotta get back and not miss our cruise ship. So there's a tradition now here at the Trevi Fountain where you throw a coin And if you throw a coin and you get it in the pool, it means you're going to come back to Rome with whoever you threw the coin in with. So I'm going to throw a coin, and if I get it in the pool, that means Nina and I are going to come back to Rome again. And if I miss, then—
yeah, that's it.
That's a problem.
Yeah.
Okay, so let's not miss. Okay, here we go. Success!
We went back to the cabin, chilled for like 20 minutes, and now I told Evan if he wants to go line dancing. He's like, yeah, let's go line dancing. So we're going line dancing. We did a little bit of dancing.
Did you film it?
No, because I was dancing and I didn't bring my tripod, so I didn't film it. Yeah, but now we're gonna go have dinner.
There's two yacht club restaurants. Yeah, we've been going to the main one each time, and so now we're gonna try the second one.
They said it's more oriental.
I don't know what it's called, but Asian. We'll show you. Okay, Nina's our chef tonight now.
She's—
I think it's done.
Yeah, it's done.
Okay, I'll just flip it and then you can have the—
Chef just needs to take it off the plate. Okay, there she goes. All right. Give it a try, Nina.
You give it a try. I'll film you give it a try.
I have the camera now, so they've been watching me eat everything. Time to watch Nina eat something. Here she goes. First bite is yum and tasty. Nice. Get some wine. Perfect. Okay, good job, Nina. Winner, winner, winner. Oh, pretty good.
Good. You know why it's good? Because I helped cook the steak.
Of course. Yeah, I agree.
Hot cookie with ice cream. It's good. Dinner is done. I am so full. Evan's grabbing us some grapes to eat. Anyhow, we're gonna go back to the room, pick up my dance shoes, and we're gonna head down, learn some rock and roll. Evan's stretching. Good morning, Evan. You didn't— you're not feeling well? Your throat is hurting?
Yeah.
Did you sleep okay last night?
No.
No. Was it me? No, it's not me. Kind of me. I was coughing a little bit.
It's never you. You're coughing all night, it's my fault.
Exactly.
I should have woken up and massaged your back. Welcome to Palermo. Nina's going to be excited to show you these oranges on the trees that are coming up here.
Oh, she'll take some.
Yeah, but before that— yeah, Nina sees fruit growing on trees and she just assumes that it's hers or she could take whatever she wants.
I just assumed it's all— this is public, it's on the street, right?
It's my fault. Uh, we're gonna go get some coffee. That's our first, uh, it's our, it's our tradition. We get off the boat, get some coffee, do our do our cheers, and then on with the day. It's the warmest it's been so far, uh, on our trip. It's also the latest start we've had, so the sun has come up a little bit, uh, later too. So yeah, here we go, and let's see if Nina steals one of these oranges or not.
And remember what the guy said at the beginning when we ordered the, when we ordered the croissant?
Yeah, we want to get a croissant because it was the—
we wanted to get a small one because this one is too big. It's big.
So the small ones, they had plain and they had Nutella. And so we asked them, which one should we order, plain or Nutella? And he said, I recommend the pistachio Pistachio is big. Well, you come, you come with the weight like this and you have to leave with weight looking like this. Like, okay, well, pistachio. So we got it. Okay, what are we doing?
Yeah, we're gonna eat the pistachio croissant. Oh, I like the— I like the crunchy part. Evan doesn't like the crunchy part.
It's a perfect match.
You didn't get any pistachio?
No, because that's just The crunchy part first.
Oh, just, just take, take. Okay, how was the crunchy part?
Crunchy part is good. Great. Oh, look at this.
Oh, pistachio.
That's a lot of pistachio paste inside.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Best pistachio in the world, apparently.
In the world?
In the world.
Yeah.
Okay, okay. And try the pistachio in there. And— oh, it's really good. Very creamy.
That's good. Yeah, you should try it. It's actually great. Very strong pistachio flavor. Really strong.
Oh my gosh, that's really good. I thought you were joking.
That was a great pit stop. Oh yeah, great coffee, great croissant.
Yeah, yeah, great sun behind you.
Great sun. Yeah, it's nice.
Now we're gonna go explore the architecture and work our way towards the downtown area and see some old buildings. Buildings and then get some more food.
Building behind us is, um, is a famous dealer.
Yep.
What?
Theater.
Yeah, famous theater. If you want to go and watch shows or something, and you can go. Yeah, that's what you explained.
This one here? Yeah, yeah, yeah, there you go. Hey, look at that! Yeah, it's on our walk, based on our way to downtown where all the main stuff is at. Um, but lots of shops and horses and nice smelling things.
And, uh, yeah, yeah, let's keep going.
Next stop is, uh, Il Capo Market. Everybody just been complaining about how hungry they are, so we're going to go to, uh, got to eat Il Capo Market to see what the local vendors and they're just selling.
I got some clementine from the market. I don't know if they pick it from the street, but I got some clementine. Evan's gonna try the first bite of the The climate change, it just—
the skin just peels off.
Yeah, yeah, it's very easy to peel.
Yeah, it melts.
Yeah, melts. Well, it didn't melt. It's good. I mean, is it really good?
Yum.
That was the greatest orange I might have ever had in my life.
Really?
It's really good. I think the main problem is in Canada we don't grow them. They get imported, and so they, they ripen on the, on the way here. Here, it's like they just picked it off the trees and give it to you.
Yeah, yeah, I know.
So fresh. Crazy.
Growing up, every, every winter, me and my mom would sit and would buy a lot of oranges and then wrap them in an individual, um, individual wrap so that it will preserve for longer. But that's what we do every, every winter.
Okay.
Yeah, let's go. Next up, we're gonna go get some, uh, famous Sicilian rice balls. It's like rice and cheese deep fried. Yeah, it's, it's, it's going to be great. But that's not lunch yet. This is all like just snacks leading up to lunch. Let's go.
Try it. Pistachio.
This is, yeah, rice, mozzarella, pistachios.
Ready?
It's good.
Evan is a pistachio fan.
Pistachio expert.
Expert. Yeah, he, he, he should— he would let us know if it's good.
I've never had pistachio with rice before, but It's good. Evan, it's a weird mix.
Weird mix.
Interesting. Yeah, it's filling. This is gonna be filling.
Yeah, this is rice.
Yeah, it's heavy. This is our, our pre-appetizer lunch warm-up. We're gonna get a cannoli next and then slowly make our way towards, uh, I think there might even be ice cream.
I don't know if that's before.
You did not say ice cream again. You're in Italy, you have to have it.
This one is the pork. Black pork. Oh, better? You like this one more?
A lot of flavor on the pork.
Good, good. We just finished the rice ball, and then Evan is excited to try the cannoli right now.
And granita.
What are you gonna have?
One pistachio, one regular.
Yeah, he's so excited when he sees the cannoli. Canelli store here.
Yeah, yeah, it's great.
Evan excited. Why don't you try your milkshake?
Oh wow, I need to have Jesus milkshake. Oh wow, very pistachioy, like chunks of pistachio plus the pistachio flavor.
Okay, try your cannoli then.
Let's go. This is the original. Original is just— it's ricotta cheese with little bits of chocolate inside, then they dip it in chocolate and put, um, chocolate bits. Uh, no, like icing sugar on top. Oh my God, not even hungry, so good.
Oh my God.
So good.
How's your first food pit stop, Evan?
Yeah, good. Well, is it? We had— we already had a coffee and— all right, coffee and the Nutella croissant.
Yeah.
And then we also had the rice ball.
And we were just here and we also had the orange. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, okay. So that's not a— yeah, that's— this is a fourth pit stop.
It's our fourth pre-lunch stop, but we're very full. Well, we're gonna go to that, we're gonna go to the famous cathedral, and that's an 11-minute walk to build up our appetite, and then we'll head to lunch. It's gonna be great.
Well, maybe just walk around 4 times, 11 back and forth. Yeah, yeah. Where are we, Evan?
The main cathedral.
Main cathedral in Sicily.
Yeah.
We just finished at the cathedral. What's next, Evan?
Another church, famous church.
Another church?
Another church. Famous church.
Why?
Because Nina loves churches. Every time we go on a trip, she's like, I need to see at least 20 churches. Like, okay, we're checking them off the list. Let's go to the church.
Once proven again, Evan likes to take me to little alleyway.
We are at our lunch spot. I don't know if we're gonna eat. We have to decide if we're gonna eat or not because we already had a lot of food. Stutzikan, known for their pizza, pasta, and most importantly, Ivan's favorite, pistachio.
Okay, we're not gonna eat there because no one is hungry.
Yeah, I mean, I could kind of eat.
I could eat. I'm not that full.
Ivan is being ridiculous. He's like, you know, if you eat now, we're gonna kick you off the boat. If you make me eat I quit. It's our last street market in Sicily that we're gonna visit called La Bucceria. So again, more restaurants, more market, more street food, more screaming, yeah, more selling. Last chance to get some street food if you want it.
Evan is wowed by this tree.
It's cool, it's like it's growing all these crazy roots. Look, these are roots. It's like trying to get to the ground.
This is an Evan Carmichael tree. Has a mind of its own.
Oh, okay.
Doing different things. Want to be different. We chilled a little bit at the park. Now we're gonna go back to the cruise. I don't know what he's doing. Evan's not feeling well, so we're gonna relax. Evan is not feeling well. He is not feeling well at all. He slept feeling sick. No, he's not. He's— we have a— we've been waiting for salsa music since we boarded, and then, um, it has— tonight it's a salsa night, but we're not going dancing because he is not well.
Yeah, dancing makes you feel better though.
Well, but you, you are not going. Yeah, yeah. So we're just gonna grab something to eat and then go back to to the room and relax. Okay, it is New Year. Happy New Year! Oh baby, Happy New Year! We have to celebrate New Year. Happy New Year! He, he was not well last night, so he just went to sleep early. I think it's become the tradition that he's not well on New Year's Eve. We're not allowed to celebrate together on New Year's Eve. Alright, so next day we're gonna get off the boat to Malta. Why are we going up here, Evan?
This is the, uh, oh, you can walk or we took the elevator because I'm not feeling that good. Yeah, yeah, it's the Upper Barrakka Gardens. It's our first stop in Malta.
Yeah, we're gonna meet up Ivan. Yeah, we picked up Ivan. Now, uh, there's something going on. Where's— where we are, Evan, that there was something going on at 12 o'clock.
Yeah, they're supposed to fire the cannons.
Oh, okay.
I do a salute at 12 o'clock. Okay, it's 11:36.
We have half an hour to kill. Yeah, so we're gonna get a coffee first. Uh, yeah, and then we're gonna enjoy our coffee. But before that, I want you to see this, this road going uphill.
A lot of, a lot of hills. Yeah, like San Francisco on steroids.
Look how clear the the sky is, huh?
So blue.
This is the one.
Sad news.
It's not happening. We waited for 5 minutes. Yeah, so we're gonna head out.
The gunshots. Yeah, we're gonna go get some lunch before the crowds take over the restaurant.
We'll see.
12:06, we'll be there. 12:17. Famous Italian place.
Famous Italian place in Malta? Yeah, that's weird.
Yeah, you get your tiramisu. All Nina's been saying is, I want pasta, I want pasta, I want pasta. So there you go, Nina.
I said I want spaghetti.
Okay, she's a happy girl. Perfect. Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum. This is giant.
That looks better than mine though.
It's good.
Oh, the truffle oil is great.
Lunch is done. Uh, very filling.
It's very filling pasta.
Yeah, it's all carbs.
Oh yeah, yeah, so good, so good.
Yeah, next stop, we're going to walk around.
Uh, Ivan wants a gelato.
Yeah, because he's, he's very— he's still hungry. He's not full yet.
Yeah, uh, we're gonna walk through the two most famous streets, Straight Street and Republic. We're gonna see if we make it all the way to the water and back, hit up Lower Barracas, then the main church, and then head back to the boat. But there's a waterfront area there that if we have time we'll check out too. Andiamo!
It is 7 o'clock. After we came back to the boat, we worked, and then now we're Going for dinner, buffet dinner, because we can't stay out too long because Evan's trying to recover. He's still trying to recover. Yeah, you think that he's very— he's well now, but he's not. Good morning! Today is day at sea. Uh, yesterday we were— yesterday we went to have a dinner at the buffet and then we bumped into Ivan. We chatted a little bit and then Evan still did not feel so well. So he just went back to the room and sleep, and it was not sleep, to relax. He had the worst sleep ever last night. He had 4 hours of sleep. It is 11 AM local time. We're gonna go to the lounge and do some work. We work. Evan just chill half of the time in the bedroom because he's no— he is still not feeling well. Yeah, he's been, he's been in the room the whole time. I was in the lounge the whole time by myself working. Uh, anyhow, I'm gonna go for dinner myself because, um, Ellen—
Ellen—
not Ellen— Ellen—
who's Ellen?
I don't know. Evan shouldn't be, uh, he should— he shouldn't be going out for dinner. He should just chill in the room and relax so that tomorrow he has a bit more energy and could spend the time with me. So I'm gonna go for dinner myself. All right, it is our day to get off the cruise. Evan's very excited. Yeah, not sleeping on the water— on the water— in the boat on the water. Last night was wavy. I got up to use the bathroom, I was like, oh, it's kind of wavy.
Yeah, yeah, but compared to every other cruise, the MSC Europa is the best cruise I've ever been on in terms of day at sea or waviness in general.
Last coffee on the cruise today.
Yeah, right now we just docked. Yeah, uh, the disembarkation lines are going to be crazy long. Yeah, uh, I guess with Yacht Club we can just get off though. Yeah, but we're still gonna get a coffee before we go.
Time to disembark, leave the boat, and go to our hotel. And Evan needs to sleep. We're gonna say goodbye to Ivan and Tamara.
Yeah, give us some inspiration, Ivan. First time on the channel. What do you want to tell the world here? MSC cruises are epic. These guys are awesome. Yeah, come to Italy in January, it's warm. Yeah, that's my message.
All right, sashimi are great. Sashimi is great. We just checked into our hotel. Yeah, the room's not ready yet, so we just dropped off the luggage.
9:40 AM.
Yeah. Yeah, it's early, so we're gonna go do some work while waiting.
Yeah, normally we'd go to a Spanish cafe, local vibe, culture, but most of them are not great for working. Uh, tables are too small, or outdoor tables, which would be fine normally, but it's cold. It's cold right now.
It's very cold.
So, uh, and Nina's been craving for a big coffee, so we're gonna go to Starbucks.
Yeah.
Spoiled.
Starbucks is the best place to work. Always heat tables, always have Wi-Fi, always have power.
Yeah, they thought of everything.
Yeah, it's, it's designed for that. Yeah, the coffee is better to have local, but if you need to get work done, find a Starbucks.
We worked a little bit at the Starbucks and came back to the hotel just to check if the room was ready. They say they're gonna call me. They actually call, but the thing is, uh, they said a man picked up the phone, so I don't know what happened.
All right, our room for the next day.
20— not even 24 hours. This is our room. So This is a bedroom here. Oh, they have a bedroom, the closet is here, the bathroom is here, and then working stations, and then a living room. Nice. That's a nice—
to the Rambla.
It's nice.
Most famous street in Spain.
We drop off our suitcase, drop off our stuff off. Set it up and then we're gonna go out. Now we're gonna go out to get some food.
Yeah, Nina made a demand. I must have sangria. So I found this place, yeah, 4.6 stars, the Jesus Restaurant. The Jesus Restaurant, 4.6 stars on like 12,000 reviews. Number one thing to do— sorry, where are we going?
G, zero.
Number one thing on their menu The most famous thing is sangria. Number 2 is seafood paella. Number 3 is squid ink. So I'm not sure about that, but it sounds like a winning place for Nina.
It's a 6-minute walk and we're gonna take you there.
When you say Jesus, I thought, I thought you were saying something else. I didn't know you're talking— I didn't know you meant The store name is called Juicy's. Yeah, the restaurant name is called Juicy's. Yeah, okay, that's funny. Okay, let's go in. Evan is very excited about this garlic shrimp that is bubbly here.
It's very hot, but the sauce is insane.
It's good, but also at the same time burning your tongue. Oh my gosh, okay.
Lunch is good. Yeah, really good.
Yeah, warm, right temperature, great tasting, not too filling, just the right amount of food. Uh, and now what?
We're gonna—
you want more food?
Yeah, we're gonna go—
not quite the right amount of food, just a little under.
It's, it's a, it's, it's a small portion. Yeah, small portion. A dog, a loose dog on the run. Where's he going?
No, no, he's got a collar. He's just chasing a bird. Actually, you don't see, um, you don't see homeless dogs here.
Yeah, stray dogs. Yeah, stray dogs.
Yeah.
Okay, we're gonna go to the market to see if there's anything that we can pick up.
What are you craving? What are you craving there?
I don't know. Uh, I don't know. What's another good, uh, Barcelona food?
Ice cream.
Oh no, I'm not having ice cream. It's too cold right now. Yeah, it's too cold.
We've had all the good food. We'll see what speaks to Nina's stomach and eyes when we get there.
Yeah, I was gonna walk it off a little bit. So Evan and I, we were just lying on bed working, and then, um, the housekeeping— not housekeeping, the hotel clerk came knock on the door.
Okay, what does she want? You're in trouble?
No, I knocked over one of their paintings.
Unbelievable.
Yeah, yeah.
So violent. No, such a chaos, such a disruptor.
No, it's not. Anyways, they sent us a bottle of champagne. Oh, and with some chocolate.
Okay.
Yeah, which is— Evan's very excited.
Yeah. Why did they send it?
To thank you for staying at the Meridian. Marriott as a loyal customer.
Are we loyal customers?
I don't know, or elite customers. Okay, yeah, yeah, I'll share the notes. Yeah, it's nice. This is the first time getting the complimentary champagne from a hotel for me, at least.
Really?
Yeah.
Okay, let's have some champagne and chocolate.
It is almost 6:00. Yep, we need to go eat something, otherwise I will be too late.
Yeah, yeah, Nina got to pick the last place she wanted, uh, well, I found it, but she wanted paella. Yeah, I said, well, what do you want for dinner? She's like, you pick. Like, oh, okay, let's go.
What the heck?
Yeah, so what— why, what's so funny?
Means you don't like what I picked.
No, no, I don't like— I mean, it was, it was good. It was better than expected, but I don't like it. Um, it's okay. So the number 2 best rated place around us is actually a hamburger place, so we're gonna go. They are famous for their spicy potatoes. Oh, which, which I guess they're like— they're not quite French. They look like home fries, but they said you have to get the spicy potatoes and you got to get the double patty beef. Pork at the pulled pork. Yeah, uh, and warning, it's going to be messy.
Okay, so, so we're gonna eat that.
That's where we're going.
Yeah, 7 minutes away.
Evan's burger is, um, huge, messy. It looked, it looked huge, but they said eating will be messy.
Yeah, they said it's going to be insanely messy, and you have to get the double patty. This is way too big.
Yeah, yeah, it's way—
I don't think double patties— no, I didn't think it'd be that—
well, you already ordered, so—
oh yeah, no, no, we're going to eat it.
Now just eat.
Yep.
Really good. Good.
Evan, you're going to try the legendary potatoes, the legendary bravas potatoes, spicy potatoes.
It's hot.
That's good.
Very good.
Yeah. Wow, surprise.
Yeah, very good. Spicy and hot. You should try one.
Wow. We just finished our burger dinner. It was good. It was really good.
So filling.
Yeah, it was so full. I, I couldn't finish mine. I had to give my last bite to Evan. Yeah, I was like forcing Last 2 bites. Yeah, yeah.
So what do you do when you're super full?
You get more food.
Yeah, dessert. I mean, of course. So I found this place that has a white chocolate croissant. Yeah, that, uh, we have to try.
Yeah.
And then this place that we've been to twice and both times were closed— oh no, first time was insanely busy, second time was closed— is a churros shop where you dip— they melt chocolate in front of you, and you dip the churros inside and eat it.
So we'll go there, but before that we need to get a croissant.
But I'm not gonna eat it right now, then we take it back to the hotel, eat it later today while we watch something and relax, probably. Uh, but the churros place, you gotta, you gotta have it when chocolate is hot. Yeah, assuming the lineup's not insane.
Hopefully.
That's the plan right now. Yeah, and Barcelona is beautiful at night.
It's like, yeah, it's so nice.
Awesome. What a city.
Evan, you have sad news.
Well, it's okay. There's this giant lineup to get into the place.
Yeah, it's a big lineup.
Yeah, it goes far.
Yeah.
So that's okay.
That's okay.
We don't need churros anyway. We have our white chocolate croissant. Let's get back to the hotel, pack up, watch a Blacklist, relax, go to bed, wake up, fly home.
You excited to go home?
Tired. Yes, excited. Yeah, I had 3 hours sleep last night.
That's not good.
Back to our bed though today. Yeah, we got 12 hours and a half on the travel, airports. Yeah, but let's go home.
Yeah, let's go. This is the right We just got into the airport terminal. Evan is so surprised that they don't check our passports. We just walked right through the security.
We had boarding pass.
Yeah, I think so, because boarding pass got our passport info.
Oh, it's great.
It was actually the fastest, fastest of everyone.
Without even using priority. Fastest international airport I've been at. It's great. I love it. Let's go Barcelona. Good job. Our flight to Toronto though is delayed.
Yeah.
4 hours? 3 hours?
3:20.
So we're going Barcelona to Zurich, which is the other way, then to Toronto. It was supposed to be an hour 40 stopover and now it's a 4 hour 40 stopover. And hopefully we're not spending the night in Zurich. Or if we do, uh, go see Zurich. Go see Zurich. Let's go. Yeah, Zurich needs more belief. We're gonna spread it.
Evan, our flight is delayed. Delay and delay. Both flights are delayed. Yeah, this one just arrived. People are coming out right now.
Reflection time on the airport.
You have a good reflection time on the airport?
Well, we're going to.
Yeah, but well, hopefully we'll get up, get on soon.
This is going to be a long day. How many hours? 13 hours?
This is probably longer.
Longer? 15 hours? Yeah, good times at the airport.
12, 13. Yeah, 13 hours probably.
Yeah, yeah. Anyways, time to reflect.
We just arrived in Zurich. We have about how long? 2 hours? No, 4 hours 4 hours here. Yeah, 4 hours here before to catch our flight back to Toronto. Yeah, now just got to find our lounge, chill, and then do some work. It is the next day. We went— we got home last night, just slept. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then right now we're gonna pick up our dogs because they're gonna be excited.
They stayed at Nina's mom's place for, for the full time.
Yeah, not even here. They're not that excited.
Wow.
So that's it for our epic, uh, European adventure. If you want to see— you're happy to be home— you want to see our last trip. It was also awesome. Check it out right there next to me. I think you'll love it. Continue to believe, and we'll see you there.
