Unlock a Happier You in 60 Minutes | How to Use Music to CHANGE Your Energy

In this 60‑minute motivational video, Evan Carmichael (joined by Nina Carmichael and several interjectors) shares a step‑by‑step system for rapidly shifting emotional states and building a happier, more productive life. He argues that music is the fastest tool for changing mood, describing his own two‑playlist morning routine (oldies to get moving, then a diverse "Believe" playlist) and how to curate songs that force you to move and feel positive. He cautions against using music to mask grief, emphasizing that some emotions need to be felt fully. He then expands to broader lifestyle hacks: changing your physical environment, surrounding yourself with optimistic people, and creating a "254" habit series (a daily micro‑learning habit lasting up to 254 days). He introduces three concrete rules – change your environment, be patient with results, stop comparing yourself to others – and provides tactical homework (build a personal energizing playlist, identify one delayed task, comment with it). The video also covers deeper self‑discovery: defining your core value (the "who"), uncovering purpose from past pain (the "why"), and articulating your passion (the "how"). Carmichael critiques traditional education, promotes self‑education, community (Movement Makers), and consistent action over endless planning. The second half deepens the critique of formal schooling for entrepreneurs, stresses the importance of courage to break family and cultural expectations, introduces the "2% difference" concept—taking immediate micro‑actions instead of over‑planning—and illustrates how momentum, community support, and trusting your ideas can accelerate personal growth.

The fastest way to change your state is music. The fastest way to go from a negative low energy is by playing the right song or set of songs. Most people, when you're thinking about music, you put on music for how you are currently feeling. So if you're feeling sad, depressed, lonely, you're more likely to put on the songs that also make you feel sad. But when you flip it, when you're feeling sad, anxious, depressed, and you put on something more positive, guess what's going to happen? You're gonna start to be more positive. You're gonna start to be more energetic. You're gonna start to have more of an optimistic outcome for where you could go because the song will take you there a lot faster than anything else through my experience has shown. It's faster than going to a seminar. It's faster than watching a video. It's faster than meditation or prayer. Songs, a song can instantly change your state when you're intentional about it. Hey, it's Evan Carmichael and I watch these videos every day because I need them for motivation. Being around successful entrepreneurs every morning helps me believe that I can do great things too. It's like your morning coffee, but for your goals, kickstarting your day with a blast of positivity. So here is a challenge for you. Try watching one video every morning for the next 30 days, and let's find out together if they help you do great things too. If you're in, leave a hashtag #believe in the comments below so I can celebrate with you.
Wanna soar? Get a mentor. Hey, it's Nina Carmichael, and we made these videos probably because you're the most ambitious the smartest person in your circle, but you know you're capable of more and you need the push by surrounding yourself with the best. So today, let's learn from one of the best, my husband Evan Carmichael, and learn how to hack your state, go from sad to happy in just a few minutes. Enjoy!
I use music in a bunch of different ways. The most important way is in my morning routine. So the first thing I'll do is I wake up, I'm walking to the bathroom, and I'll put on some music. And I have two different playlists that I'll use very consistently. The one is my first thing in the morning playlist and it's oldies. So Beach Boys, I Will Survive, just like oldies songs for whatever reason just starts getting me moving. They're happy, they're upbeat, and they get me moving. Any song that gets you moving, there are some songs right now, think about it, picture it, try to find that song. That if it came on, you would have to get out of your chair. Or worst case, if it came on— for the, for the non-dancers out there— if it came on, at the very least, your foot would start to tap or your knee would start to bounce, right? There's some songs that would happen, it would start to happen for you. That's what I'm talking about, injecting that into your regular routine. Because if you're feeling slow and lazy and tired and woe is me and stressed out and anxious, but then some something comes on that forces you to move and it forces you to feel happy because it actually makes you feel happy, that song, then guess what? You're going to start to feel happier. And when you start to feel happier, that's going to allow you to create a lot more amazing things. Because if you started your day with the thing that made you feel happy, right, that got you in a better mood no matter what happened last night, you're gonna have a much better day. One of the challenges being an entrepreneur is you might have had the greatest day yesterday of all time. Yesterday was fantastic. You, you crushed your goals. You did something amazing. You pushed through your fears. Hey, awesome! You feel so great. Wow, so much is possible. And you wake up the next day, it's like, oh, I'm starting over. Has that happened to you? You had tons of energy yesterday and you wake up the next day and you feel like you're starting over. Music is the fastest way to get you back into your state. So my morning playlist is oldies first thing, and then after, after I've gone through my oldies and I'm ready to actually start the day, I'll put on my believe playlist. And that's a public playlist you can find on my main channel. Just look up #Believe. There's a couple hundred songs on there. And they're songs that just give me energy again. They're not only like the fun oldie stuff, but, but, um, go watch it. There's stuff all— there's Serbian songs, there's Japanese songs, there's Chinese songs, there's K-pop songs, there's Italian songs, there's Selena Gomez, there's all sorts of stuff in there. That I put on, that it's not just the same song every day because the same song will start to lose its, its, its vibe and feeling. So you have a playlist of songs that I'll have on throughout the day that I'm sitting on a trampoline, right? So I, I, this is my natural all day long. I try to calm it down for when I'm filming videos so it's not too distracting. And I got the music playing and I'm bouncing all day. You're just going to show up with more energy, with more positivity, with more happiness. Than if you're sitting down lazy, slow, feeling the weight of the world and having negativity around you, right? Or apathy around you, like it doesn't matter, you don't care, or nobody around you cares, right? You can force yourself out of that state by putting on the music. Now, I should caveat this to say not every state you need to force yourself out of. Out of all the negative states, I don't want to feel any of them at all, but the one that I think you have to feel is grief. I think snapping yourself out of grief could actually be counterproductive. Anything else is not worth feeling very heavily, in my opinion. If you're jealous above somebody, I want to, I want to snap out of it. I want to stay and be jealous of somebody. If you're angry at somebody, I want to snap out of it. I don't want to be angry at somebody. Right? A lot of the negative emotions— if I'm frustrated or stressed or anxious, I don't want to— I don't— that doesn't serve me. I don't know how that serves me. If you can figure out how that serves you, to sit in it, then great. But I don't think it serves you that much. So you feel it for a moment and then you snap out of it with music. Grief is a whole different thing. Over the past year, we've lost— in my family, we— I just buried my grandmother, my last remaining grand— parent. Last week on Friday, we lost our family dog who just was with us forever. And for anybody who doesn't have dogs, you may think I'm crazy, but anybody who has dogs, you know, you know what it's like. And I lost my sister-in-law as well. And you just have to feel it. Yeah, you just have to feel it. I think you just have to go through the process. If If you look at me filming videos, I, I have not stopped filming videos for 12 years, however long we've been making content. I film videos through my broken neck. I film videos through my concussion. You can go back and see me with like scab on my face, gained 30 lbs, neck brace on. Like, there was no time that I stopped making videos except the week that we had to put my family dog down. That was on a filming day, and I just couldn't bring myself to making content. I needed time. I did not want to snap out— I could have done it with music, I could have snapped out of it and said, okay, let's go make content. It just didn't feel like the right thing to do because I think grief you just have to go through and it will sort itself out. And the next week I was able to make content again, but that was the only time that I wasn't able to film content for my channel. So apart from that, that's a kind of a heavy, heavy side note. Apart from that, most of the feelings that you're feeling, you probably don't wanna stick with for very long. And they can be snapped out of at any point if you choose to by putting the right song on. So homework assignment then becomes, well, what are the songs that make you feel that way, that make you feel alive, that if it came on, what are the songs that if it came on, on your playlist, or it came on randomly, or came on on the radio, you would turn it up? What are those songs? What are the songs that you catch yourself bobbing your head, stomping your feet, or full-on getting up and dancing and going crazy? What are those songs? Those are the ones you want to add to your playlist. Last night I was dancing with Nina, and we were trying to build a new playlist of salsa songs, and one song came on, um, Amor y Control, that but as soon as it came on, I had to get out of my seat. All right, that's, that's good. That's a good one. Like, I'm tired, we've just been dancing, this song comes on, I gotta get back up and dance some more. That's the right song, right? We all have those songs. And you may not like my playlist. You can go and look up the Believe playlist. It's free. It's not my music. I just curated them. But there's no perfect song. It's what's the playlist for you? And to start to build that playlist and then make it a habit to listen to it in the morning. Make it super easy to listen to. So one of the things that I do, I have some tabs that I load every day on my, on my computer. So when I come to my computer and I'm coming to start to work, there's tabs that I look at every day. It's my YouTube stats, there's my Discord server, there's all sorts of stuff that I look at every day. About 40 websites or something that load now every day. But the very first one that loads is my Believe playlist. The Believe playlist is the very first website that loads when I turn on my computer as a reminder, 'cause I may forget. This is the thing, like you set your intention, then you forget. You know, you might've done it today, but then you forget tomorrow. So you make it as easy as possible for you to do it. You have in your calendar, listen to music, great. Put the playlist right there so it's one click. On my phone, my music YouTube app is right there. That's one of the 4 things at the bottom that I can click. So as soon as I get up, I can have my phone and click on my oldies playlist and start listening to it right away. Reduce the friction, because especially when you're not feeling it, you don't want to do it. You don't want to click the button. But then as soon as you do, you start to feel better. I'm tired. I got lines on my face. I just woke up. I don't want to press the button, but it's so easy. I do. And then guess what? I'm in the bathroom. I'm dancing. You got the energy going. I'm looking at myself in the mirror. I'm shaking. I'm singing. Where did that come from? You know, a matter of seconds, because the music put me into that state. Music is the fastest way to change your state, to go from feeling how you are right now to feeling how you want to be. Music is the fastest bridge to get you there. It doesn't mean that videos and prayer and meditation and reading and podcasts can't take you there too, or a whole bunch of other things, but music is the fastest way to get there. And if you want to live over here, you want to show up with energy and intention and positivity and happiness and kindness, and you want to throw that into your life today, then it's worth trying, even for the next week, to just build your playlist and start your day listening to it and watch what amazing things happen to you.
Rule number 2: Change your environment.
I think everyone is born an optimist, and then your environment sucks the soul out of most people. When you're a baby, you don't stress out about how you look, what you're wearing, or how you're smelling. When you're a kid, you don't hate your life and complain about the world. If there's negativity in your head, it was put there by someone, and if you want to change it, you need to change your environment. So I've had the good pleasure of seeing one of my friends, Mark Drager, great friend of the channel, been involved with the channel for a number of years, become more optimistic. Become more positive. And he was wondering, could I even do it? Is it possible? He was a guy who was naturally, naturally pessimistic. He had a lot of stuff happen to him, like we all have, a lot of situations, a lot of circumstances that made him see the negative of what's happening, of being pessimistic, of not being the typical optimistic, everything's gonna work out great entrepreneur. And so what changed over the past 12 12 months, he's made a significant investment in himself. I've been hanging around with him a lot more. We've co-hosted a podcast together. He's hanging around me, my content, Gary Vee's content, Tom Bilyeu's content more. He's been to Tony Robbins' seminar twice in the past year, brought his team with him, and he's slowly inching towards more optimism, more positivity, that more things are possible. Because of the negative upbringing that he had, it takes a lot of unwiring. It takes a lot of shifting your focus. It takes a lot of, with purpose, with intent, changing your environment, changing the people you hang out with, changing where you— the physical environment that you're in to make a change. I went to Mark's office and he's moving his office. He's creating his own office. He's putting a picture on the wall of himself and then what he wants to be as as positive inspiration every day. He's looking at what kind of colors and what kind of furnishings and what kind of decor can I have in my office to make me feel bold, to make me feel alive every single day. It's possible, and I think that's the starting point for a lot of people. It's possible to change your outlook. It's possible to become more optimistic. That negativity that was planted in your head was put there by somebody else who hates their life. You were not born to wake up and hate your life. You were not born to wake up and think that it's just negativity all around the world. You're not born to wake up and be a pessimist.
You're not.
It was put there by somebody, somebody else who hated their life, and we need to eject that person. We need to unwire the years or decades of training, and in that void, you replace it with the thing that you want. If you want more optimism, you surround yourself with the most optimistic people you can find. In person, on your team, in video format, in the books you read, in the clubs you're hanging out with. You first limit access from the negative people, limit exposure. You may not be able to completely wipe them out, like maybe they're your parents, but you can limit exposure, you can limit access either with time or just topics that you're covering, and then inject more positivity and optimism to the people, books, resources, environment that you have around you. I have a 3-step process for you to follow. I think you're going to enjoy it. I hope it helps. Step 1 is create a 254. So the 254 series I made, we've got, I don't know, 5 or 6 of them where every day for the next 254 days, I send you a video on a different topic. So it could be about self-love. It could be about confidence. It could be about, uh, writer's wisdom. It could be about Black excellence, girl boss. You have a whole bunch of different series that are geared towards helping you feel more confident in a certain area of life. So if you wanna have more self-love, then every day for 254 days, I send you a free video. I've talked about it a bunch on this channel. The link's in the description. You can go check it out. It's absolutely free. But whether it's coming from me or you find your own source, you need to create your own 254. You need to create your own thing that every day you're consuming that slowly starts to shift your perspective on things, that slowly makes you feel like this is actually actually possible. I made my channel selfishly for me. I wanted to be around Elon Musk and Tony Robbins and Oprah on a daily basis and get their messages in my head to make me feel like more is possible, that this is, this is not my final resting place. And then I share with you guys, and thankfully you like it too. So you need to create your own version of that. I made my channel for me. I made the 254s for you. Maybe I haven't picked the right one. My goal is to have 1,000 254s Now, why 254? Because it takes 18 to 254 days of successive action for a habit to form. The average is 66 days, so if you're trying to start a new habit, it takes an average of 66 days for you to form it. The fastest case is 18 days, and the, the slowest, the worst case is 254 days. So I made the 254 series because even if you are the slowest learner, the slowest human alive, the most stubborn person, I'm gonna be there with you every step of the way for 254 days. So whatever the habit is you want to build, if it's optimism, then surround yourself with something, some resource, some information, some video, some book. Every day you're consuming, micro-dosing. Every single day you will become it. Step number 2 is collect good people. I have this saying where I love collecting good people. I love collecting people who make me feel more energetic, positive, happy, belief. When you find somebody like that, collect them, hold on to them, even if you don't know how it's going to work out yet. I was driving through the desert thinking about my buddy Mark, and I thought we should do a podcast together. I don't know why I thought that. It just came to me. I don't, I don't consume a single podcast, but I thought, you know what, I like Mark. I like Mark's energy. It'd be fun to do something together. He loves podcasts. Why don't we do a podcast together? And he said yes. And ever since then, that night we made our first podcast while I was on the road. And ever, ever since then, every week we've done a new podcast. You can go check it out. It's called the Self-Improvement Podcast. Comes out at least once a week. Collect good people. Think about the people in your life right now who make you feel good about yourself, who make you feel more belief in yourself, who make you feel more confident, more optimistic, more positive. Who are those people? And then try to find a way to spend more time with them, whether it's a weekly coffee you're hanging out, whether it's an actual project you can work on together. Try to find those people that make you feel like you come alive. There's already a few. There's probably not enough in your life right now, but there may be 1 or 2 or 3. Try to spend more time with them, and then keep your radar open, your spidey senses tingling for people that you meet that make you feel great, and try to collect them and do work together. And number 3 is damn the Doritos. Damn the Doritos. Why do I have this here? People keep leaving comments, "When are you going to eat the Doritos?" I'm not! I'm not gonna eat the Doritos. The whole idea of having this Doritos— they are not a sponsor of the channel. The whole idea of having the Doritos here is because I love Doritos. I want to eat these things every single day. I want to eat this bag every single day. Even just talking about it, my mouth is watering so much. Mmm. So we went to Costco and I bought a giant bag of Doritos and this is where I'm working. This is where I work all day long. My computer's right here. This is how I'm working normally, right here. There's Steve Jobs, and then there's a giant bag of Doritos right here kind of staring me down every day. And what this is is a reminder. It's a reminder that I'm stronger than the Doritos because damn the Doritos, because the Doritos aren't going to win. The Doritos aren't going to beat me. And so my ultimate goal for you in changing your environment is, yes, we want to inject more. We want to create a 254 for ourselves. We want to change our physical environment. We want to collect good people and be around them. But my ultimate goal is also that when you are around negativity, when you're around something that can drag you down, that you can still be in the same room and it doesn't drag you down. This is proof to myself every day how awesome I am. At least that's the story that I'm telling myself, right? I'm not gonna eat those Doritos today. I'm not gonna eat those Doritos today. I'm stronger than the Doritos. Damn the Doritos. My ultimate goal for you would be when you're around someone who is negative, when you're around a toxic environment, when you can't change something. This is your chance to show yourself what you're made of. That you are now better, you've grown, you're a different human being, you can handle being around it. I think that's ultimately where your self-confidence comes from. The ability to do difficult things. And so steps 1 and 2 are bring in more positivity, and if you need to eliminate some of the negativity, awesome, I love it. Cut off exposure, cut off access, and bring in more positivity, activity every day, and then get to the point where there's so much optimism, belief, vitamin C injected into you that if somebody comes to you with their negativity and they sneeze on you, you're not catching a cold because you've done the work. And if anything, you're going to create a gravitational pull that makes them feel more happy, more optimistic, more positive. If I'm hanging around a negative person, if I'm around a negative person every day, they will become more positive. It's just going to happen. My gravitational force is so big around belief. It's my one word. You're not going to get me to go anti-belief. It just won't happen. I just believe in you so much. I'm going to suck you in to belief. You will love your life more. You will do greater things just by being around me every day. And I think that's what I want for you as well. It's not about bragging about myself. It's you. I want you to have that same impact. That then you can hang around the negative people, you can be close to them, and in that being close, you're not going to go negative. You're going to force them to come more positive. Also, to make sure you're actually taking action after watching this video, I've designed a special free worksheet just for this video. The worksheet will highlight our favorite lessons from the video that will inspire you to remember what you learned today and actually apply them. The worksheet will also give you space to write down what your key takeaways are and your specific plan of action to make sure you're getting results. If you want the worksheet designed specifically for this video, absolutely for free, there's a link in the description below. Go click on it and start building the momentum in your life and your business. I'll see you there.
Rule number 3: Be patient with the result.
You're not in a big enough hurry because you don't view patience and impatience properly. You were trained and conditioned with a perspective that does not serve you. Today we're gonna break that.
We're gonna set you free so you can start hitting your goals a lot faster.
Most people are patient with themselves but impatient with the results. I'll say that again. You're patient with yourself, but you're impatient with the results. You want the results to happen right away.
You're impatient, like, when am I gonna get these results? But you're patient with yourself.
You'll give yourself a break.
You'll let yourself down, like, I'll do I'll do that tomorrow.
You're patient with yourself, but you're impatient with the results. I want you to flip it. This is the perspective shift that if you understand and make in your business, your entire life will change. You need to flip it. You want to be patient with the results and impatient with yourself. You want to be patient with the results and impatient with yourself. Know that the results that you're after will take time.
You're chasing down big goals. You're an entrepreneur. You want to do amazing amazing things.
It's going to take some time for that to happen. But the impatience you need to put on a daily basis is on yourself. Did you do the most that you can do today and every single day to move a little bit closer to achieving your goals?
So look at my business as an example.
My next goal is to hit 10 million subscribers on my main YouTube channel.
That's a big goal. It's going to take me a while to get there, right? It's not going to happen tomorrow. No matter how much work I put in, no matter what I do, it's not happening tomorrow. It's gonna take some time.
I get that. I'm patient with that, and I'm insanely impatient with myself. It's like, what can I do more today to get me closer to that goal? How can this video be the best video I've ever made? It may not come out, but it's my intention.
You may not get that result every day, but it's my intention.
If your intention was to every single day do the most you could do to move closer to your goal, man, you would get there so much faster. The problem is you're too patient with yourself. It's okay. I'll do it. I'll do it January 1st, right?
New year. I'm gonna start fresh January.
I'll do it Monday, start of the week. I can't do it now.
It's a Thursday now.
I can't do it now.
I'll do it Monday, start of the week. I'm gonna start.
That's the problem. If that's you, then the best thing you can do is right now.
Right now, instantaneously, the rest of today has to be amazing.
And same thing for tomorrow, and same thing for tomorrow.
Stop letting yourself off the hook. Stop saying, "It's okay, I'll get to that some other time." This is the problem why you're not accomplishing your goals faster.
You're too patient with yourself. And then you're sitting there wondering, "Why am I not getting results?
I've been doing this for 4 years and I haven't gotten results yet." You've been barely doing it.
That's the problem.
Doing something once a week, doing these start and stops and starts and stops, you're never gonna hit your goal. It's gonna take you such a long time to get there. So don't be frustrated that it's taking time to get there. Be frustrated with yourself and the lack of effort that you're putting in to attack it. And change your identity. As soon as you start coming up with that idea of "I'll do that some other time," instantly stomp that out.
Crush it.
I'm doing that right now. And so I want to hit 10 million subscribers. It's going to take me some time. You might say, wow, you're growing quickly. Awesome. I think I'm growing slowly, right? I want to go faster. I want today to be the best day ever. I need to make this video better. I need to make my thumbnails better. I need to make my team better. I need to make the editing better.
It's a constant push every single day to do the most that you possibly can to get closer to accomplishing that goal.
I want you to flip it.
Be patient with the results, they will come, and impatient with yourself.
If you every day woke up and attacked your goal and were insanely impatient with yourself and said, "Today has to matter.
Today has to count.
Today I'm going to do something to move way closer to my goal than I ever thought possible. I'm going to demand more of myself today." If you did that every day, holy shit.
Holy cow, those goals are gonna pour in for you, and I'm cheering you on.
So let's go super tactical for a minute.
I want you to think about one thing that you've been putting off, one thing that you know you need to do, one thing that you know would move you a little bit closer to your goal, one thing you've been putting off.
What's coming to mind right now?
One thing that you have been putting off to say, "I will get to that later. I will tackle that on Monday." And show yourself what you're made of. Make yourself proud today.
The problem is when We're not proud enough of our own effort. We're not proud of ourselves.
It's not about proving it to anybody else.
It's not about proving it to me or your parents or your family or anybody. It's proving it to yourself, being proud of yourself.
And so my challenge for you today is I want to go tactical. I want you to think about one thing that you have been delaying, that you've been putting off. I want you to tell me what that thing is in a comment below. And as soon as you press enter or send or whatever you press on YouTube, to submit a comment, and then go do that thing, or at least take a micro action on it to start building momentum and to start shifting your identity as you are somebody who is impatient with yourself. You're gonna demand results from yourself on a daily basis.
Rule number 4, stop comparing to others.
You're constantly comparing your version of success, your version of life compared to what you see out there, other people's versions, You're looking at what they're doing on Instagram and YouTube and social media and in the tabloids and in the, you know, you're looking at those people and you say, that's the life that I want. You have no confidence in your own version of your life. That's the problem. That's what you need to fix. Otherwise you're constantly looking for the missing goat number 3 that never will exist. So I'm doing this 90-day tour right now, 23 cities, 90 days. I often get asked on my tour, hey Evan, what's the perfect morning routine? Like, what do you do every morning to get yourself started? What I do almost doesn't matter. Stop comparing yourself to me. We have different versions of what success and balance look like. I look at what The Rock does, for example. He needs to work out for 4 hours a day. He needs to do cardio twice, he needs to do weights twice. When he has to be on a movie set by 9 AM, he wakes up at 4, goes and works out for 4 hours, comes back, showers, and then goes to his set. And when he's shooting a movie, he'll sleep 5 hours a night. I think that's crazy. I don't look like The Rock. There's a reason we have different priorities, different version of balance. But this is the problem because you want to work out like The Rock and you want to be a good dad like this person and you want to be a good entrepreneur like this person, a visionary like this person, and you're constantly judging your version of your life versus somebody else's. It's unobtainable. It's not possible because there's no self-confidence in what you already have. It doesn't matter what I do in the morning. It doesn't matter what The Rock does in the morning. What matters is you start your day with the thing that makes you come alive. If you started your day with the thing that made you feel bold and self-confident every single day, your life would look dramatically different one year from today than where you are right now. It just would. But what that thing is is different for everybody. We have different goals. We have different things that drive and move us. And so it starts with having the self-awareness to figure out what it is that you want, and then the self-confidence to believe in it enough that when you see something shiny over here, you're not swayed by it and think that you suck because this person's crushing it in a different field. So this is a two-step process that will help you. The first is you need to figure out your who, your one word, your most important core value. I wrote a book on it, you can, you can find it if you want, but it comes down to this: what is the single most important core value that you have as a human being. It's one of the most important questions that you can ever ask yourself. What do you stand for? What's your most important core value? Until you know what you stand for, you're going to be pulled by everybody else's opinion of what you should do. If you have a problem of being pulled by other people's version of your life, you think you should do this because this person wants you to. If you're constantly pulled in all these different directions because you have no idea what you stand for, So you have no rock to stand on. You're constantly in quicksand being pulled around. You need to understand what your one word most important core value is. It's one of the most important exercises you will ever do in your life. Mine is belief. My one word is belief. So all the content that I make is around belief. All the videos that I make is positive, right? Hopefully it's the— it's at least the intent every time, whether I hit it or not. It's always my intent out of every person that I meet, every piece of content that that I create, every book that I write, the clothing— well, actually I can't with this, I can't wear my Believe hoodies, I gotta wear this Nike zip-up 'cause they don't have zip-ups on my tour. But normally my gear, everything that I'm wearing, right, it's all trying to spread belief. And so if you're coming at me with a suggestion, hey Evan, how about you do the top 10 conflicts of all time or the top 10 stupidest things that this person ever said? It's an easy no, 'cause it's not belief. It's an easy no. But if I didn't know what I stood for, it might be easy to go off and do that thing, right? I might be, I might be tempted because the money's gonna be good, right? Because if I did a top 10 stupidest things this person ever said, you can bet that that video is gonna have way more views than the top 10 rules for success, because people would much rather be entertained and laugh at somebody than to try to improve their own life and educate themselves to get better. You need to figure out what you stand for. Until you do, you're constantly constantly looking for goat number 3, you're never going to know. You're never going to figure out your life. What do you stand for? What's your most important core value? One word. Figure it out. The second thing is you have to figure out what balance looks like for you. Your actions need to map to your ambitions. What does balance look like for you? Mine is different. Like, my life is different than The Rock's, and it's different than yours, different than Gaurav Pal Das. It's different. So what you need to do is plan out your calendar. From Sunday to Sunday, right? Plan out your calendar, put everything in that you want to get done. Success is habits. Success is not about hitting a certain number in your bank account. It's habits. It's what you do consistently. You are what you consistently do. Success is your habits. So look at your habits. Write down what's going on. You might have the luxury to plan your entire day every day, or maybe you're in school, or maybe you have a job, or maybe you have other responsibilities. Great. Put it all in. You want to be a great entrepreneur? You want to be a great leader? You want to be a great mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister? Great. Whatever your ambitions are, how much time do you need to spend on those things? How much time do you want to spend working out? How much time do you want to spend learning, educating yourself, growing? How much time do you want to spend chasing after your dreams? How much time do you want to spend on these things? And then where is it going to fit into your calendar and plot it out? Show me. Because if you have dreams and ambitions, but it doesn't show up in your calendar, it's just a hope. It's never going to happen. Your actions, what's in your calendar, has to map to your ambitions. Do you actually accomplish the things that you want? Show me in your calendar where that's happening. And most people bleed time out of their day. Most people wake up like an accident, and they start living other people's versions of their life, responding to emergencies, constantly distracted, constantly being interrupted, and never getting anything done. You're working your face off, but nothing's happening because you don't have barriers around your time. And so figure out for you what a balanced life looks like, that if you did this for the next week, you'd be happy, you'd be moving closer to accomplishing your goals, that these are the habits that you want to have on a regular basis. And if somebody doesn't agree with you, forget about them. Stop judging your version of balance against somebody else's. This is what you want to do, and have confidence that this is your plan. And it may not be the plan forever, but for now, you're pumped to go off and do this thing and stop caring what somebody else thinks about your version of balance. And vice versa, you have no right to judge what somebody else is doing. If somebody needs to sleep 12 hours a day, great, go do it. If somebody wants to work out 4 hours a day, amazing, go do it. Somebody wants to work 80 hours a week or 20 hours a a week, great, go do it. Stop judging them. And when they start judging you, have confidence in your plan. Thank them for the love, thank them for caring, but you're damn confident in what you're doing. Figure out your one word, figure out your who, figure out your one word most important core value, and then figure out what balance looks like for you, and stop worrying what other people think about your version of balance.
Rule number 5, the last one before our very special bonus clip, find your who, why, and how.
Humans are built to serve. You want to help people. It's hardwired into us. Serving other people touches the same part of our brain as eating food and having sex. You need it. But how do you serve? What is your purpose? How do you find your passion? I'm gonna answer that in this video. So earlier this year, I went across 90 days, 23 cities across the US on a tour, speaking tour, and in my head, my plan was to talk about how to overcome judgment, how to take the 2% difference and just start acting on your ideas. And I had this template for what I wanted to talk about. And as I started getting more questions, the single thing that came up over and over and over again from 23 different cities across the entire country, from Pittsburgh to San Diego and back, was, how do I find my purpose?
What's my passion?
What am I supposed to be doing? And in every single city, I had to walk people through this process. And because it became so important, I started to write a book on it because I basically went through interventions with people where I had them stand up and had them go through a 3-step process that I'm going to walk you through in this video in a minute. And they got a result. And suddenly after years or decades of no clarity, they had clarity on what they should be doing and what their purpose was, what their passion was, and what their path forward was. And there's a 3-step process that I go through. So let's do it right now. You can get some value from it. Step 1 is who, step 2 is why, and step 3 is how. So let's start with step 1. It's your who. It's your most important core value. Humans are built off of core values, and there's one that's more important than all the others. If you had to decide what is your single most important core value, what is it? You may not know exactly, but you're going to get pretty close. Just, just go down this thought exercise for now. What is one important core value that you hold? That if people around you were the opposite of it, it would be toxic to you. It's important to figure out because when people don't know what their most important core value is, you get pulled into a whole bunch of different directions. You get pulled to follow somebody else's purpose, somebody else's mission, and settle for it. But what you're settling for is crumbs. It's crumbs of purpose because it's their purpose that you're just kind of helping instead of you actually living your purpose. Makes a massive difference. It starts with what is your single most important core value, and you can look at that by what are all the things that have made you come alive in the past, the people you love, the relationship that worked out, that the thing you learned from your teachers the most, why you love those people so much is a common thread. And when you figure that out, it allows you to build a better life and business going forward with intention around your most important core value and bringing people alongside your mission to support you. So you're working with the people who are like like-minded instead of having a random assortment of people who might have great skills with different values and it doesn't work out. Step 2 is your why. This is your purpose. Your purpose comes from your pain. Your purpose comes from your pain. Think about the most painful moment you had growing up in your past. It doesn't have to be from 8 years old. Maybe it was something that happened 2 years ago, but the most painful moment in your life, what was it? Where you felt not physical pain, but emotional pain that you felt worthless as a human being. When did you feel the most worthless as a human being? That moment. Helping other people is built into you, right? Humans are built to serve, but helping people who are exactly like that will be the people that you love helping for the rest of your life. Because whether that was 2 years ago, 5 years ago, 20 years ago, let's just say it was 5 years ago for this example. The person who you were 5 years ago, you've grown a lot since then. You may not be out of the woods. You may not have figured it all out. You're still on your journey. You're still learning and growing. And you never want to stop learning and growing, but you're way better than you used to be. You're way better than you were 5 years ago. Now, there's a lot of people who are exactly who you used to be 5 years ago, and they're struggling, and they need help, and they need guidance, and they're afraid, and they don't know what to do. You can help them. Just like the version of you right now could go back 5 years and help the person who you used to be, there are a lot of people who are what you used to be. They currently are what you used to be. You can help them. And helping them, it's not just a matter of you can, it'll fill you up. It'll never get old for the rest of your life. Your purpose comes from your pain. And then step 3 is your how. This is your passion. So how did you get out of it? How did you solve the problem? Again, you might not be totally out of the woods. You're still learning and growing. Amazing. But you've learned a lot since the person you were 5 years ago. How did you get out of What did you do? Was it watching YouTube videos? Was it meditation? Was it getting in shape, eating better food? What was it? What did you do? What did you do to save yourself? That was not a random occurrence. That was not something that can just work for you. That's a recipe that you can apply to help other people as well. The path that you took to get out, or at least get a little bit better than where you used to be, is something that is teachable, that you can help other people with with as well and give them hope and give them momentum and give them confidence. And again, that will fill you up for the rest of your life. Finding your passion is one of the most important and least understood things that I think you can do, especially as an entrepreneur. We've all heard the expression, find your passion, find your passion, you got to do what you love. And from all the videos that I've done and all the people that I've studied and profiled, whether they're entrepreneurs, innovators, athletes, Recording artists, like whatever they are, the number one rule that they all have in common is find your passion. When I get asked, you've studied all these people, what's, what's the most common thread? That's it. Find your passion. You have to be doing the work that you love. But how do you do it? How do you find it? Because most of the time we know what we don't want, right? You know the life that you don't want. You know the people who you don't want to be hanging around. You've been at some job that you do not enjoy. We typically know what we don't want, but we haven't done the work or been given the tools to know what we do want. And that's what I'm going to cover in this video. For me, I love helping entrepreneurs. I think your purpose comes from your pain, right? So whatever you struggle the most in life is what you want to help other people through. You are built to serve. So your purpose, your passion becomes a part of that, will definitely be in service to other people somehow. It's not enough for it just to be about you. You have to be doing other things. I just came from doing some squats. I feel a little out of breath, but it's amazing. I love this. This is the best. And so your purpose comes through your pain. Your purpose, your purpose is to help other people through something, especially what you went through yourself. The passion component though, is actually enjoying the work to get people to the other side. So for me, I love helping entrepreneurs. I struggled a lot in my early days as an entrepreneur. And I'm, I'm basically trying to make the world of 19-year-old Evans who are struggling not struggle as much as I did. And I'm a visual learner, so I'd much rather see visual content than anything else. YouTube did not exist when I was getting started. And so I'm trying to share whatever wisdom I have, share the lessons from other successful entrepreneurs so that all of the 19-year-old Evans out there can learn and can improve and get better. I have a process that I call it the Passion Process. And if you go through this process, it will help you identify your passion and give you a lot more light, love, energy, and money, you know, because we got to make money as entrepreneurs. So the passion process is this. If you want to go through it, make a list of all the things that you've done to help other people, especially the kind of people who are who you used to be. Like, make a list. And I went through this process in Built to Serve. I did this with my wife to help her find her passions. This is where it was birthed. But if you just make a list of all the things that you enjoyed helping people with, like you, you got them a result, you're so happy that they are now in a different spot because of what you did. Like, what did you do where you showed up and you helped somebody with something? And just if you want to pause the video, you can. If you want to make a mental list, just all the things that you've done to help other people. Okay. After you have that list, then write down or just circle The ones that you actually enjoy the process of doing as opposed to just the end result. This is where we get stuck. This is where entrepreneurs get trapped. Okay? We enjoy the end result of what we've done, but we don't enjoy the process of doing it. How many times have you helped somebody else out because you're a good person, because you're built to serve, because you love that person, or even you see yourself in that person and you just want to— you just want to help. and you're so happy that you helped them, but you didn't actually enjoy the work that you were doing. And that's the key difference. The result has to be there and that you help somebody, of course. And the thing that will make you light up, come alive, love doing for the rest of your life is the actual work you're doing you love too. So to bring it home, like that's some great theory.
Awesome.
In my example, The example that I use in Built to Serve in my book is I love helping entrepreneurs. Like, I want to see you win. Every day I wake up and I try to figure out what else can I do to try to help entrepreneurs win? How else can I help the 19-year-old Evans of the world out there get their business off the ground? And if you were to move your office, say you're going from a home office to you got your first office, it's like, wow, you got your first place.
Amazing.
And you needed help moving. I could help you move. And I would be so happy to see you in your new office. The problem is I don't enjoy the process of moving. I don't want to unplug computers and pack them in boxes and move desks. And sure, it might be a fun workout, but I don't get lost in the process of that, right? I don't love it. I love the end result of helping the entrepreneur, but I don't love the process of getting the entrepreneur to that result. And that's the key difference. That's where most of you will get trapped. You love the end result and feel like what you're doing matters and is important. Great. And you get that little hit at the end, like, yes, I helped that person. But did you actually enjoy the process of you doing the work? And if not, that's what we need to revisit. Most entrepreneurs are doing too much of the work that they do not enjoy just trying to get to the result. Now, not everything you do is going to be amazing. Not everything that you do is going to, is going to fill you up with joy and passion. A lot of running a business does suck. And you have to do things, you know, accounting and taxes and legal stuff. It's not stuff that makes me come alive and I find joyous, but your goal as an entrepreneur needs to be to spend more time in that zone of genius where you do actually love it. And at the beginning, you know, maybe it's 50/50, but hopefully as you build and scale and grow and learn more about yourself, you can shift the percentage of how much you do that is in your zone of genius that you love doing versus what has to get done to grow the business. Business, right? And as you build and scale and grow, that's hopefully where team comes into place to handle all those things that have to get done that you don't enjoy doing. So if you make your list of all the ways that you have helped people, if you have no idea what's my passion, you have no idea, make a list of all the things that you have done that you've, you've enjoyed the result of helping somebody. What have you done to help people? Then circle the ones where you actually enjoyed the process. So I don't want to help entrepreneurs move and pack boxes, even if it leads to a great result. I want to do something that I actually enjoy doing. You don't go to school to learn. You go to school to get a degree, and that degree hopefully helps you get a job that you're looking for. But you don't go to school to learn. There's just so many more effective ways to learn than to go to a university. And listen, I went to university. I don't regret that I went to university. And it was 20 years ago that I went to university, and I thought I wanted to be an investment banker And at the time, being an investment banker, you needed to have a university degree. Still probably now. I mean, if you want to become a doctor or a lawyer or an accountant, you have to go to school. You have to go to school to get the degree to then allow you to get the opportunities in the job. It's just that has to happen. Nobody's going to hire you to be a doctor if you are just practiced, like just go out and get real-world experience.
What do you get?
How are you going to get real-world experience as a doctor without any kind of degree, right? But if you want to be an entrepreneur, it's only becoming more and more useless. I mean, it was pretty useless for me 20 years ago. I'm 42. Yeah, I'm 42. So 20 years ago, I remember being in my, my fourth year graduating class, small business course. And I was already running my company at the time, and it was honestly a waste of time. Everybody who was in the class was thinking of doing coffee shops and these little businesses, and I wanted to build a huge biotech software company. My professor didn't run a business, so I don't know how you can teach entrepreneurship if you don't have your own company. And it was just, it was just a giant waste of time. I ended up most of the time being on my laptop. In working on my business while he was talking. That was 20 years ago. Now I can't even imagine what it would be like right now and how boring it would be and how useless or irrelevant it would be and how much I just want to be skipping class and making videos. You know, there's so many more opportunities right now. And listen, I was a good student. I never skipped class. It was more that I was probably afraid of missing out on stuff. And if failing tests. So even though I have a lot of entrepreneurial tendencies, I still did, you know, pretty well in school and showed up to classes and did all the assignments, but I wasn't happy about it. And it felt, especially the small business class, felt useless. You know, if I'm taking economics class and I'm taking accounting classes, those felt a lot more practical in that it would guide me towards being an investment banker. I had to have those classes on my on my resume, but the small business one just felt like a giant waste of time. Think about your own education experience. Most of high school, college is just memorization, right? You're just memorizing stuff. It's the connections to other people which can be helpful, and, and then memorizing. You don't actually learn very much. Like, how much did you actually remember from your, your stats class or math class or calculus or French or whatever? Like, how much did you actually Most of it is just memorization. I'm not actually completely anti-education. It's just more, do your actions map to your ambitions? So if you want to be an entrepreneur, you're going to get nothing pretty much from a university education. If you want to be a doctor, then you have to go off and do it. And it's not so much that you're learning amazing things because you could learn— you can learn it in much faster ways. If you care about something, you're going to learn a lot more. And if you see it being practical and applicable to your life, you're going to learn a lot faster. I remember being in stats class and, uh, statistics was super boring to me. I memorized a whole bunch of things and formulas and never applied it, didn't see how this is relevant, and so instantly forgot it. And then I was working on a— I have my own software company now and tool that we're using, and we're split testing different thumbnails, one versus the other, and I wanted to be statistically significant. And I remembered that term from my stats class, like, whoa, how do you calculate that again? Now that it actually became applicable to me, now I'm suddenly interested in it. And when you care about something, you're gonna, you're gonna be more interested in it, and you're gonna learn it, and it'll stick. Where most of the stuff that we learn in school, you just don't find it relevant or helpful, and so it doesn't stick. And so again, there's much faster ways to learn. It's caring about it, it's being in the community of other people who are learning, But the point of school is not to learn. The point of school is to get the degree so you can get the job. And if that's what your goals are, awesome. You still have to play that game. And if it's not your goals, then, then how can you better achieve your goals? Right. And I get there's still pressure and maybe your family's forcing you to do it, or you still think that in the eyes of society, that's the best thing to do. But man, as long as you're making a decisions based off of other people's opinions, you're never going to win. You know, if you're living your parents' version of your life or you're living society's version of your life, you're just never going to win. That doesn't mean that you just drop everything and, you know, just throw it all away. But are you taking enough action and enough steps towards building the thing that you want to build? And maybe that means taking a year off. Maybe that means taking a semester off. Maybe that means starting your side hustle, like There's one thing just to complain about a life that you don't like. But the more important thing is, are you taking action? The amount of people who are complaining about the thing that they're doing that they don't enjoy, but at the same time are taking zero action towards the thing they want to do, the thing that you claim you enjoy. Are you spending enough time? Have you scheduled it in? Are you— is it in your calendar that consistently you're taking some kind of action towards the life that you want to build or not? And for too many people, it's no. You're just complaining about a life that you don't like. About a school system that you don't like, about a job you don't like, you know, about a relationship you don't like. But what are you doing to actually fix it? And again, doesn't mean you have to burn the boats and go all in and, and, you know, pour garbage all over your boss's office or quit school right away, right? It doesn't mean you have to go all in right away, but you do have to take consistent action towards building a life that you do want. I look at Movement Makers as an example, and that's my, that's my training program, it's my mentorship program where I Every 2 weeks I get thought leaders together who are trying to build, build their audience, build their community. They have a movement inside them that they want to see get out into the world. And so we talk about making videos and winning on social media and getting book deals and becoming a speaker. And how do you get that thing that's in your heart? You know, how do you get that, that message here out to the world? And we meet every 2 weeks and it's the greatest educational thing out there for people who want to become thought leaders. Right? If you don't want to be a thought leader, you're going to be bored and find it a waste of time. If you want to be a thought leader, it's the best thing in the world. And it's training with me, but it's also connection to community of other people who are doing it. So when you want to learn something, I look at them and they're doing it and they're taking on challenges and they're making videos. And all of a sudden now they're starting to get an audience and starting to get clients and building a business. And that's the best. You know, it's the best. And the fact that they're not just doing it by themselves, but they're doing it with other people, that you're part of a community when you're around other people, who are also learning. Learning is one thing, and going from education to self-education, like traditional education, formal education to self-education, becomes a game if you want to learn, right? Traditional education, the goal is not to learn, the goal is to get a job. Cool, that's your goal, awesome. If you want to learn, you have to flip the model from traditional education to self-education. Stop blaming the traditional education system. It's just not designed to learn. That's not what you're there for. If you want to learn, you have to create your own self-education program. You have to go learn from the people who've done the thing that you want to do. Model success, be around and take consistent action and get some kind of community because the learning amplifies when you're, when you're not doing it alone. If you feel like you're always alone, everything is on your shoulders. Nobody around you understands. Nobody else is trying to do something similar to you. You're isolated. You don't feel like you belong. That's really hard. It's not that it's not possible. It's just insanely difficult. And most people will quit along the way or at the very least, just not take enough consistent action. But when you're around other people who are doing the thing, who are also committed, who are learning, who are— you're teaching each other and you feel like you're not alone on the journey. It's one of the biggest improvements I made to Movement Makers was at the very, very beginning. It's 85 minutes every 2 weeks, right? So the very beginning, it was me teaching for 85 minutes because I thought, you know what, got to get the education out, teach as much information as in my brain, pour it into your brain, let's go. And what I found was some of the best elements of Movement Makers is having them, having the members connect to each other and creating breakout rooms for people where they can share their experience, explain what, what road they're on, creating a Discord where people can share their wins, get help from each other. So that's not all flowing through me, but then they're connected to each other. And when you can create a family of people who are also learning the same thing that you're learning, man, when you're around those kind of people, Everything changes when it's not just you pushing the ball uphill every single day all by yourself. Everything changes. And so moving from traditional education, self-education, to actually— if your goal is to actually learn and then finding a community of people who are like-minded, who are also chasing down their goals and their dreams, you get that, man, the next year will be— you'll be unstoppable. You'll be unrecognizable. Like, the person who you will be in one year compared to who you are right now. You won't even recognize it. Wow, that's who I used to be. That's how you turbocharge your growth. Invest in self-education and get around a community of like-minded people who will push you forward.
Most people aren't happy in life because they're living somebody else's truth. You're not living your truth, you're living somebody else's version of it. Your parents, your family, your culture, your society— you live in somebody else's version of it. And so you're never happy because you never explored it, you never picked at it, you never found out what you could be and you settled for something less than what you're capable of. You know you're capable of more. You may not know what the thing is that you should be doing, but you know it's not this thing right in front of you. I can't tell you how many people I've met on this tour who have that story to share. I had a woman whose father told her that women should not be doing any kind of entrepreneurial ventures, that women are meant to be teachers. And so she spent 15 years being a teacher before having the courage to jump off. And start her own business, and now she has a multi-million dollar construction business. I had a girl come up in Albuquerque, where I am right now, who studied for years to be an accountant. Why? Because her mom was an accountant. So her mom made her go study to become an accountant, and she didn't know what she wanted to do, so she said, okay, great, yeah, I'll be an accountant. She just graduated and realized, I don't wanna be an accountant, this isn't for me. It's easy, it's the path that my parents took, like, it's great for me to get into it, easy money. You know, my mom said, I'll like it when the money starts coming in, but money's coming in and I don't like it. I want to do something else. I know I'm meant for something greater. And so she told her mom, I don't want to do this. I want to learn how to be a management consultant and I'm going to go back to school. That takes a lot of guts. That takes a lot of courage. Most people do not have that courage. Most people do not have the courage to stand up to their parents and say, I don't want this life. It doesn't mean you have to hate them, you have to attack them, you have to tell them they're wrong. This is for you. You don't want that life. Most people never have that courage. And the story that comes to mind for me is Akio Morita. And use this as motivation, as wisdom. If you are trying to battle your parents or your culture, your friends, your society, remember Akio Morita. He started Sony. Now he came from 11 or 12 generations of sake brewers, Japanese background. The Japanese culture is super family-oriented. And the oldest always takes over the family business. The oldest has to follow in line with what the family was doing. And so he was expected to take over the sake business. And it's not just one generation. You're talking 11 or 12 generations in a Japanese society. And he said, "I don't want to do this. I want to start my own business, a technology company." At a time when Japan was known for super low-quality products. This is the man who put Japan on the map. For high-quality products, that products coming out of Japan meant something, was a stamp of quality because of Akio Morita. And he went on to build one of the most successful brands in the world, Sony. But it starts with having the courage, having the courage to say, that's not my life, that's not my truth, that's your truth. And it's out of love. Your parents love you, your friends love you, your society, your community, they love you. It's not out of hate. It's very few parents who say, do this because you're going to suffer. You know, it's out of love. They just have a different version of it. Their world is different. They don't understand the world that you're growing up in. And so you have to have the courage to go off and start your truth. The challenging part though is it's uncertain. You don't know what it looks like. You haven't started. And so here's what I call the 2% difference. This is the secret to moving forward. As soon as you get an idea, as soon as you get an idea, you get an idea for something, trust that idea. Trust that idea that it's actually the right thing for you. Because what we typically do, you get an idea and then your brain talks you down from doing it. Your brain says, well, you're not talented enough, you haven't gone to school, you don't have the money, you don't have the resources. It talks you down from doing that big crazy thing. I believe that idea came to you for a reason and you need to trust it and go take action on it. Even though it doesn't make sense. You're trying to solve a matter of the heart with your head. You can't logically think your way through how you're going to feel about something. You can't. You can't think your way through if you're going to like sushi or not. You can't think your way through if you're going to love somebody or not. You can't. Similarly, in finding your truth, finding your passion, finding your calling, you cannot think your way through it. You have to feel it. And so the starting point is going off and doing it. And as soon as you get that idea, while you're feeling bold, while you're feeling inspired, to go off and take some kind of action. I call it the 2% difference. Don't worry about trying to get to 100%. Don't worry about planning and strategizing and figuring it out and thinking. That's what most of us do. You get an idea, you think, you start thinking, right? You plan. How do I get to that 100%? No, you've lost because you're going to wake up tomorrow a different person because you're going to go home today, plan, plan, plan, and wake up tomorrow a different person and then not take action because you're scared. Because your brain will start talking you down from that crazy big idea. Your brain will talk you down from going off and living your truth. That's what's going to happen. That's what always happens. And so while you're feeling the energy and the momentum, you got to take some action. Instead of planning how to get to 100% of the way, you take action immediately on getting 2% of the way. 2%. The 2% difference. Go from 0 to 2%. If you can't take immediate momentum to getting 2% of the way, you will never get to 100%. You have an idea to make a YouTube channel. Great. Go make a video right now, today, ASAP. The 2% difference. Make your first video right now with Don't worry about trying to get to 100%. Don't worry about planning and strategizing and figuring it out and thinking. That's what most of us do. You get an idea, you think, you start thinking right. You plan. that 100%? No, you've lost because you're going to wake up tomorrow a different person because you're going to go home today, plan, plan, plan, and wake up tomorrow a different person. And then not take action because you're scared, because your brain will start talking you down from that crazy big idea. Your brain will talk you down from going off and living your truth.
That's what's going to happen.
Quick example, my story. I'm here in Albuquerque, New Mexico right now. I was walking down a beautiful summer day last year and I decided that I was going to take Nina to every city in North America with a million-plus people. Every city in North America with 1 million-plus people. That was my decision.
Great.
What's my first step? Action. The 2% difference. So it's not— here's what most people do— it's not go home and research how many cities there are. It's not go home and make a plan for how we're you're going to do this? There's lots of reasons why it's not going to work. Nina still had a full-time job. I had no idea how many cities there were. I had no idea what the next step was going to be. Just do something. Immediate action. And so I thought right away, 5 seconds later, here's my goal. Great. 5 seconds later, this weekend, let's hit one city. Boston. Nina had never been to Boston, so I thought Boston was the closest city to Toronto.
It wasn't.
Pittsburgh actually was. And on my tour people in Pittsburgh told me. They let me know that Pittsburgh is closer, but it doesn't matter. This weekend we're gonna go to Boston. It was a Wednesday that I decided, and on Friday night we were leaving for Boston. Boom, I hit 2%. Just 50 cities, we're gonna hit 1 this weekend. We're gonna get 2% of the way done. On the way back from Boston, we decided to do this tour that I'm on right now, and now we're gonna hit 50% of the cities on my list. Momentum. That's the thing that's missing— momentum— because you're trying to be perfect. You're trying to fully understand your truth, but you can't think your way through your truth. You have to experience it and feel it. And the starting point is a 2% difference. So take whatever idea that you have and train yourself. I want to burn this into your nervous system. This is one of the most important things you can do of all time. As soon as you get an idea, action. Idea, action. Idea, action. The more you can shortcut that, that window, instead of taking a week to take action or a day to take action, immediate, 5 seconds. Idea, boom, some kind of 2% action and experiment. I expected not to be perfect. I expected not to be the best plan. My plan was wrong, right? Pittsburgh was closer. In my head, I thought it was Boston. We went down the wrong path, but the momentum is what matters. And now we're 50% of the way, and now I'm going to close that gap and get the rest of it. The 2% difference. Go find your truth.

The world's biggest problem is that people don't believe themselves enough. I believe everybody has Michael Jordan-level talent at something. Like, you are literally the world's greatest at something, but you either don't believe that you are, or you
