We... ALMOST Made it to DALLAS! - #LifeWithEvan

Evan Carmichael and Nina tried to fly from Toronto to Dallas for New Year's but a snowstorm and flight cancellations derailed the trip. They raced to the airport, hit delays, met a fan, and fell in love with a rescue dog before the journey fell apart.

We are going to Dallas for New Year's and we're taking you guys with us. Alright, Believe Nation, so I wanted to take Nina out of the country, go somewhere hopefully warm to celebrate New Year's. Nina doesn't have a lot of time off of her 9-to-5 job, and so we only have from basically the Friday to the Monday, Friday night. It's Friday night now filming this. So I thought Dallas because a lot of people bought my book, "You're One Word" in Dallas and there's a direct flight to Toronto and it's supposed to be warm but this weekend might actually snow so that's gonna be fun and uh, here we go. There is currently a crazy snowstorm happening outside here in Toronto so we're gonna try to catch our Uber so we can get to the airport and hopefully, fingers crossed, make our flight. Check it out. This is the snow. It was really coming down hard, but this actually isn't that bad. Let's just hope we can make it to the airport on time to get to Dallas and get to more snow. How's the Uber, Nina?
Completing the trip nearby, so it won't be here for another at least 15 minutes.
15 minutes?
Yeah.
Alright, what are we going to do? Sing? Ta-da-da-boom-de-ay, ta-da-da-boom-de-ay, ta-da-da-boom-de-ay. No?
I don't know the song.
Oh.
Lay ho! Oh my! Nina, priority.
Priority where? Oh, here.
Kind of a snobby thing to do, but I love traveling business class so you don't have to stand in line. Just saves the frustration. Traveled like 13 times or something this year. It's crazy. Just, I love skipping the lines. Take your picture, Nina. Smile. Look at how little you are on the screen. Don't look at it. Now it's my turn.
It's too big of a smile.
No such thing as too big a smile. Don't get an X, Nina. Don't get an X.
Okay, stop it.
Don't get an X.
Doesn't matter, just a random check. Nina, I didn't get an X.
No X? Your eyes aren't even open. Are your eyes open?
Okay, whatever, it doesn't matter. Who cares?
Evan, come on. What?
X?
Are you cheering for an X for me? I was cheering not for an X for you. No X. Yeah, let me see the smile. Hold on. Look at that. All right, let's go. We made it through. I remember on our recent trip, Nina got stopped in Paris for having too much makeup and liquids and perfume.
Not Paris, London.
Oh, London, London. And we waited forever. They had to unpack her bag, everything. But not this time. We made it through. Nina didn't bring too much liquids. Good job, Nina.
No, London is more strict.
London is more strict. Okay, we're gonna find our spot and get some food. Get some food? Yeah. All right, let's do it.
Food.
You know you've been at the airport too many times when you know the gate and then you know where all the food is around it and what your options are. I have been here too many times. Last trip of the year though, and, and we're gonna get back on the first, so it's our first, first trip of the, of next year. So what are we gonna do for food, Nina? I don't know. Wahlburgers? Yeah, Wahlburgers and Booster Juice. Oh, you're hungry. Wahlburgers is huge. When we went to Tony Robbins, we went to Wahlburgers first and I got Nina Nina, a huge burger. Did you finish it? Yeah, you finished it? Okay, well then we'll get Nina. Nina is little, but she can, she can eat a lot. Where does it go? She works it off with all her thinking. Wow, burger time! Nina got her food. She's excited.
Oh, you want to try one?
You want to try one? Don't you want to sit down?
Yeah, it was in the side. We can try it.
Yam fries? Yam tater tots, or sweet potato tater tots. Okay.
Take one.
Oh, cheers.
Oh, hot.
Oh, yummy.
Mmm.
Okay, those are mine. What do you think? No, Nina won't let me do that. F64, this is us. Let's go to Dallas. There are no seats. We waited too long. So we're sitting where the escalator— elec— no, moving sidewalk is. To enjoy our dinner. What do you got, Nina? What do we got? Oh, they're really good. Cinnamon on it. Okay, what's this?
Serious? Oh, OFD.
Okay, open it up. Let's see it.
I was gonna say OCD.
OCD. Oh, oh, yummy! Pick up the bun. Let's check that out. Oh, that's for me. Yummy, yummy. Okay, Nina, what do you got? Let's see it, Nina. Barbecue beef. All right. All right, that's good. There it is. Oh, that looks pretty good too. Yeah, looks pretty good too. All right, take a bite. Go, Nina, go!
That's guacamole.
All right, gonna eat. We are enjoying our awesome burgers. They're really good.
I'm—
I'm bumpy. Super greasy, but I'm looking at the wrong place. There's the camera. Super greasy but amazing. We just found out that our flight is delayed by 20 minutes. 20 minutes. Fingers crossed this is the only issue issue, because every time I travel something happens. This is it, 20 minutes. That means let's celebrate. We're gonna get a Booster Juice after this. Yeah, all right, celebrate. We have 20 extra minutes to get some Booster Juice. Bananas away. Nina's getting Tropicale. All right, cheers, Nina. Boom, sip it up. How is it? You want to try mine? More sweet.
Yeah, I don't like it. It has protein powder in there.
Yeah, I don't like it. No? All right, you like yours? Now I know what yours is like. It's okay. I was gonna say I'm not gonna try yours because it has Nina cooties on it, but I didn't realize that she drank mine anyway, so it doesn't make a difference. The cooties are everywhere. All right, mine.
Oh yeah.
Oh, it's like a milkshake. Oh, it's so good. Nina, how do you not like this one? Oh, distracted by the alcohol. Distracted by the alcohol. Nina, where are you going? What are you looking for, Nina? What happened? Too much fruit? Freeze.
Brain freeze?
You know what? You need some alcohol to get rid of the brain freeze, Nina. Just ran into a fan.
I love this guy. He gives me all the motivation, all I need. Subscribe to Matthew Lukudovich on YouTube.
Matthew Lukudovich, what do you do?
I do Amazon FBA. I teach you how to make passive income.
What's FBA?
Self-fulfillment by Amazon.
Okay. You make your own stuff?
No, I private label. I private label.
Okay, okay.
So this guy inspired me like 7 months ago. I ran a window cleaning business in the summer. Okay. And I watched a video of Warren Buffett, Elon Musk, like all those guys and just like really helped me motivate my sales staff. I love this guy.
Now you're on the channel. Now you're on the channel, dude.
I don't know your name.
Evan.
Evan, Evan, man, I swear.
Dude, this guy is not a super fan. He doesn't know my name. I don't know, man. This is looking horrible. Where are you flying to? Fort Myers. Okay. We're going to Dallas for New Year's. Are you from Toronto?
Yeah.
Oh my God, I need like in the background, like I swear I know you.
That's okay, man. It's all love. I love your videos. I love your videos.
I love your videos. It's amazing.
Take flight. It's all love. I love your channel, but I don't remember your name. That's okay, man. It's all love. It's all love. I like getting stopped. I like interacting with fans. Nina does too. See, he stopped me though this time. Last time in London, Nina got stopped. Nina got some— are you Nina? Are you Nina? Remember his name? Nina? Jacob. She forgot his name last time. You're never gonna forget now. We like being stopped, especially, especially with Nina. What, what are we looking at? Oh, the dog. There's a dog. The dog likes you, Nina. The dog really likes you, Nina. Nina misses Timo already. Nina, it's been like an hour. Okay, we're gonna wait for our flight now. Enjoy our juice. It's a mix. Yeah, just like me, I'm a mix. Nina's not a mix. Nina's pure Chinese. I'm a mix. I'm half Italian, half British. What? Yeah, he's a mix. Look, he's coming back. There he is, Nina. I like the ears. Those ears are crazy. Nina, your ears are crazy too. We love your ears. If you love Nina's ears, leave leave a comment down below. Nina, we love your ears. Nina still can't get enough of this dog. It's, it's 6 years old.
She likes to cuddle with me.
She likes to cuddle with you. Yeah, Schnauzer and Yorkshire Terrier mix. All Nina wants to do— she doesn't even want to get on the plane anymore. She just wants to be with this dog.
They're probably going to the same, same city.
Look at the ears. The ears on that dog are next level. Those ears are awesome. I love the ears. I think you should check if we're delayed How's our time, Amy? How's our time, Amy, man? No delay? Oh, we got bumped up.
No, we didn't get bumped up. Just same, same.
Let's see. It said 15, no?
No, same, same.
Dina doesn't even want to check because she's too busy taking pictures of this dog.
Oh, just taking pictures.
Like, the dog's going to come back or she's going to— Look, there's a wagging tail over there. Nina, you're obsessed with this dog.
She loves— she loves to talk to the dog. I see you, cutie.
Oh, oh, I think she's gonna come back. She's gonna come back. This is really not our vlog anymore, it's the dog show.
Yeah, it's the dog show.
It's the dog show. The dog gets more neck massages than I get. Please come to the airport regional customer service desk next to gate F87. Nina is now researching the Schnauzer Terrier dog. How come you're doing this research, Nina? Are we gonna get another dog? Is that what's happening?
Huh?
What about Teemo? Huh? Are you leaving Teemo now? Are you abandoning Teemo for another dog?
Aww, I miss him.
Oh my god. So, fun fact about Nina. Every night she watches Facebook videos about animal shelter rescue dogs and them being saved. All I hear is inspirational music. It's kind of sad inspirational music. More sad music than inspirational to me. To be honest. It's more sad. And then, and then I hear Nina go, ah, oh, oh, it's basically every night. That's what Nina does. How long do you spend watching videos every night?
An hour. Last night I spent an hour and a half watching stuff.
She spent an hour and a half watching dog videos, rescue videos. Nina's one word is caring, so she's very caring, but I feel like you should do something that's actually caring, not watch the videos, go help dogs or give the husband a massage on the neck. Right? Okay, I gotta work on my ear hair. I gotta grow my ear hair out so that I can qualify and get neck massages. Otherwise, I'm interrupting Nina's dog time. So Nina made friends with the dog owner. I think they're Japanese. And they gave her— are they Korean? Okay, they gave us a snack. That's what happens when you're Nina and you make friends about dogs. What is that?
I don't know.
Okay, you try it. It looks like— I think it's dates. Date?
Oh, it's good.
Oh, it's a lot softer than I thought. It's red bean.
It's a different kind of grain.
Did you say thank you? Were you nice?
Yeah.
You say thank you in Korean?
I don't know how to say thank you.
Okay, people in the comments, Tell us how to say thank you in Korean so Nina can study up. So the next time we run into a Korean dog owner at the airport and she gives us a yummy treat, we will be able to thank her properly. The love of dogs got you a free snack just by being caring. Look at that. Nina's using her one word. And you know what, Nina? All of Beneath— all of Believe Nation cares about you too. Why are you laughing? It's true. You're gonna get some good comments. I think actually a lot of the comments should be, "You should give Evan a neck massage." Maybe we'll have to give away a free book to a random person who leaves a comment about how I should get a neck massage from Nina.
You'll get a lot of comments.
You'll what? I'll get a lot of comments? But the comments have to be around me getting a neck massage from Nina. And then we'll pick somebody to give a free book to. What do you think, Nina? Is that a good idea?
I think I might do it.
I think I might do it. Guys, leave that comment. We'll make it happen. We're sorry to advise on this information, but we'll try and keep you updated. So the Chicago flight next to us, let's see, was supposed to leave at 8-something. They've been delayed until 11, and we are delayed until 9. Our flight hasn't come in yet. We were supposed to come in at— what time was this to leave? 8:25? 8:35 initially, and then it became 8:55, and now it's— now it's 9:05. Maybe we'll go celebrate with another booster kiss? Are you still working? It's too full! Let's hope that's the end. We gotta get to Dallas. We have fans to meet tomorrow. I posted it on my YouTube channel and the comments are filling up with people who want to show up so— Yeah! —we've got to meet them at Cafe Brazil tomorrow at 9 AM. Yes! So we need to get to Dallas. Thank you very much for making our happy day today. They kissed me right before they called off flight. First of all let us apologize for the delay. Goodbye to the people. A lot of Asian people right now at the airport. We're supposed to leave at 11, but it said they canceled because of weather. So come on, Dallas! We're waiting on our plane. What'd you say? Boston? The plane's going to Boston? Going to Boston. Come on, Boston. Make us proud. Make me fierce when we get to Dallas. Meanwhile, Nina is on The mobile app for Kijiji, looking at dogs for sale in Toronto, looking at rescue dogs for us to have. I feel like this flight needs to leave ASAP or we're going to end up with 4 extra dogs when we get home. Because Nina is browsing. Nina, these are all very cute dogs that you can volunteer to go and look after and pet and care for. But remember, we have Teemo and a husband who needs neck massages too. I don't think she's listening to me. She's lost in the world of her dogs. Oh my gosh. Why do I feel like we're gonna end up with all 8 of those puppies? I went to the bathroom and found some snacks along the way. Got some OMG Bites and Fuzzy Peaches. Stuff that we would never have at home while we're on our diet. But, uh, when we travel, especially to Dallas, we could junk out. Let's go show Nina. Hey, Nina, I got some snacks. You're too sweet. Nina's a little sad because the dog is gone.
No, I need some water.
You want water? I can get you some. I'll get you some water. I'll be right back. If I knew, I would have got along with my snacks, but I should have thought ahead and said, hmm, maybe Nina needs some water. What would a good husband do. Magic! It just appeared. Wife can be refreshed. Mmm, drink that water. That's a water commercial. It's like slow motion with stars and wind behind you, and then you gotta go, ah, ah, yeah, water. It's almost our turn. Some people are already starting to line up. That's where we're gonna be. Come on, Dallas!
What's the latest update, Nina? Airplane delay. Another delay.
So, second delay? Third delay? Third delay. 9:30. It's unsure what time? Yeah. You know what she said? Well, I'm enjoying my snacks. Nina's having her water. I'm looking up more dogs. We just got sent a really cute picture of Timo lying on his back passed out. So Nina likes that. And hopefully, hopefully the third delay is the last delay and we'll get on. The good news is the flight before us finally took off, so we should be next. What just happened, Nina? Delayed again. Delayed for the 4th time.
What time? 10:10. 10:10.
We're gonna now get into Dallas at 12:30 AM. We gotta make it to the meetup at Café Brazil tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock. Come on, don't cancel the flight! What's the good news, Nina? This is the final boarding call for Air Canada Express. What's the good news? Minus 34 tomorrow night in Toronto. I don't know what that is in Fahrenheit. So even though it's going to be cold in Dallas, I am grateful to not be in the Toronto cold. At least if we can get out of the airport and not have to go home tonight. Come on, Dallas! In another piece of good news, I went to bed last night at 11. Well, 10 we got ready for bed, but I kind of fell asleep I went to sleep close to 11, and then I got up at 3. I woke up at 3 and got out of bed closer to 4. And then? And then I got a lot of work done. It was pretty awesome. And then when my team came over at 9, it's like I already done 5 hours of work. I already checked off a good chunk of the stuff I had to do. So I felt good, and I could actually spend more time with my team and catch up and do other special projects. Projects. It's starting to hit me a bit now though. Yeah, the lack of sleep, or maybe just the frustration of waiting, but I'm feeling tired. But, uh, I don't usually wake up at 3. Sometimes I've gone to bed as late as 3, but I don't usually wake up at 3. So I got a lot of work done and I am happy about it. That's my good news for the day. I feel bad for the kids who are waiting here. The flight got delayed multiple times and they're falling asleep at the table. At least they're behaving, they're not freaking out, but I feel bad for them that they're super tired. I'm gonna get in really late. Let's hope it comes soon. Nina got up and said, "I want to pass out," and then started walking towards the booth. I don't know what she's gonna do there. They said we're gonna board at 10-something and leave at 10:30. It's not quite boarding time yet. I don't know what she's, uh, what she's doing there. She's looking. You know what, if Nina is close, it's gonna make the situation better. That's what I think. What do you guys think? Oh, Dallas! We're waiting for someone to be here, then we can go on. Nina, we're waiting for someone to be here. That's it. That's what they I said, oh, you look like a giant from this angle. Giant Nina. Oh, okay. I said, I said Nina got up and by walking over there she's gonna make it better. And then as soon as you got over there, they make an announcement. We're just waiting for someone to be here and then we're gonna go. Nina, you made that happen. Thank you. The whole Dallas flight thanks you for your awesomeness. We love you, Nina. Nina's walking kind of funny. We love her. People are coming off. People are coming off. That means that our flight is going to be ready soon. It's very exciting. We got an update.
What's the update, Nina? Boarding in 10-15 minutes. Which really means?
10 to 15 minutes! Right? Plane is here. People are getting off. They are cleaning it up and de-icing it so we can take off. Yeah! Estimated time of arrival is what? 1:30 AM, something like that. It's gonna be a late night.
But it's past both of our bedtimes.
We are early sleepers then, but it's okay. Happy New Year, baby! This is how we celebrate 2018. Yeah, let's go! We get to go! We get to go! Very exciting! I'm too excited. Let's get on the plane. Nina, I love you. We're going to Dallas. Nina's first time to Dallas. We're gonna get her a cowboy hat. She's already got the boots on. In the jeans. Cowboy jeans, cowboy boots. Chinese cowgirl. The world's changing.
Dallas, here we come.
Cancel this flight, so we're just waiting for a gate agent to come down and help you guys back up to the, up to the top there and sort out your travel arrangements, I guess. My apologies. Apologies, there's not much we can do here.
Cancel the flight?
I don't know, we'll figure it out. Almost made it.
Almost made it.
Almost.
So even though we just sat on an airplane, we have to fill out customs because technically I can't believe we left Canada. So, Nina, anything to declare? Here you go. Nina's a grumpy bear. So we sat on the plane for what, an hour, hour and a half just to get back off. We're officially in America. Have to go clear Canadian customs. Do we have anything to declare, Nina? Nothing to declare. I don't know if we're gonna be able to catch a flight in the morning or have to cancel our trip. They're gonna give us a piece of paper and tell us what we've been rebooked on, so we'll see. We will see. Let's go. So coming back to Toronto, not that we ever really left, I left a comment on the video. I feel really bad because people are gonna show up tomorrow. Yeah, I did mention in the video, hey, pay attention just in case anything happens, but I feel bad because some people are gonna show up and I don't know if we're gonna even get to Dallas at all for New Year's or, or what's gonna happen. So I just, I'm gonna find a way to make it up to everybody. I don't know what's gonna happen quite yet. Stay tuned. It's gonna be a late night, but we'll get through it as we always do. Life happens. You gotta believe. We're sitting here waiting for our cab. Nina's on the call with Air Canada. Well, on hold. We basically either catch a flight tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock or we don't go. I don't know how full that flight is. I bet everybody's trying to get on that flight. There's probably not a lot of space, and that's the only flight from Toronto to Dallas tomorrow, period. Nina's gonna see if she can make that happen. We believe in Nina. And meanwhile, got some fuzzy peaches. Always makes life better to have some fuzzy peaches. And worst case, we celebrate in Toronto. I just have to get back to everybody who might be coming tomorrow. A bunch of people said yes on YouTube, a bunch of people said yes by email, a bunch of people said yes on social media. So regardless of if we go or not tomorrow, I'm going to have to write to everybody tonight one by one, however long it takes, to let them know what's up, which sucks. I mean, I'm happy to do it, but it sucks for them because I don't want people showing up and I'm not there. I am coming back to Dallas in August for a video conference I'm speaking at. Uh, the details are on my homepage if you go to the experiences section. So Dallas people, we'll make it up, we'll do it then. And I think maybe I'll do a special hangout for you guys. Uh, we'll figure something out. I'm not thinking super clear now, but we'll figure something out for all the people who have been inconvenienced by this as well as us. So stay tuned, we'll let you guys know. Thank you for your love and support. So we made it back. Unfortunately, Nina just lost the call. We're still on hold with Air Canada to try to rebook. So is it still going? No, it stopped. We'll see. On the cab ride home, I managed to message most of the people on YouTube who left comments to let them know that it's not happening in, in whatever, 9 hours from now. Now, 8 hours from now. Uh, I still have to get back to people on email and social, so the work continues once I get inside. But I will have fast internet to do all this work, so I'm grateful for that. Hey guys, it is 3:14 AM. I have officially been up for just over 24 hours now. Um, leaving Leaving the plane, my immediate thoughts were just about the fans, the people who were going to show up, all the people that committed to coming on YouTube and in email and social media, and just trying to track everybody down. That's all I could think of. Responding to people in the car and coming home. As soon as I got home, I was just responding to everybody on email and social and involving Sandra, my awesome assistant. To help get everybody's names. And we're probably going to do— I'm either going to send some signed books to people. I'm going to come back and do another event in August anyway, another chance to do a meetup. You know, I genuinely feel bad for the people who I hope still just don't show up, but probably will. I feel really bad. But once that was kind of dealt with, Once that was off my plate, okay, I did everything I could to try to reach out to these people. Then it got to, okay, we need to cancel the Airbnb place, we got to cancel the car, and I— this is when the sadness started to seep in because I realized all these plans that I made mostly for Nina, um, it's not gonna happen. And there was a lot of effort and planning that went into making, uh, this New Year's be special for her. And the Airbnb place that I rented was this beautiful loft that they use for photography and sleeps 8 people. And I was super excited to take her there. I rented this nice sports car. And the money's gone, you know, you can't get that back. But it's more the memories that I wanted to create with her, having a great experience for her, and that's not gonna happen this year. And so the sadness crept in for me there— for her, not for me, like, whatever, it happens. I'll get a chance to go back. I can see some of those things, but I really wanted that for her, and I was really, really sad. I'm working through it, and I'll find another way to make New Year's special. And really, you know, there's so much to be grateful for, even on this crazy adventure of a day for us, spending the time together, eating the junk food, seeing the dog. You know, it's all good and I'll find a way to make New Year's special and just being together will be fine. So yeah, I'm dealing with that. I'm dealing with that. I'm feeling a little bit better right now, but if I filmed like an hour ago while I was trying to cancel all this stuff, I was feeling really, really sad, which is strange, interesting because I don't really get super sad that often. So it's good. It's good to lean in on those emotions sometimes. So that's it, guys. I was hoping to have an awesome vlog to share with you and show you all about Dallas, but that's not gonna happen today. So I'm just wrapping up. You missed how I was talking about how sad I was that you don't get to experience all the things that I had planned for you.
I know, you were very sad. I was very sad.
Nina's in her robe, so she's probably they're not going to join us in this final video. But thank you for joining us on our wacky adventure. When did we leave here? 6? 5:30? 5:30. It is now 3:30, almost 3:15-ish. So that's a good chunk of time, however long that is. I've been up for 24 hours. I haven't done that in a long time too. Yeah, so you're gonna pass that?
Okay, well, I was in the shower and I was like, oh my god, I'm gonna like die.
You're gonna die? Don't die in the shower. Oh, Nina's gonna come in. Nina, bathtub Nina's gonna come in. We had an adventure today. We got to see that dog. We got to eat junk food and we spent time together and we'll still make it a great new year.
We can still eat junk food tomorrow.
Yeah, you know what, I've been reading about Tom Brady. And his diet and craziness, and like, it makes me wanna— What's his diet? Uh, I might, I might, that might be a different video. My arm's getting tired from holding this thing up for so long.
Okay, this is a totally different video.
Yeah, so we might, I might end up getting super healthy, Tom Budi style. But, thank you guys for watching and joining us on our vlog. What was the highlight of the past X hours for you, Nina? The dog. The dog was a pretty good highlight. The dog was a good chunk of this video. But our dog is cuter, come on.
Oh, she really— she loves me.
She really did like you. But all dogs like you. Well, that's not true. A lot of dogs like you. And people like you too. If you like Nina, give her a thumbs up and a comment and say, I love you, Nina.
We should go to Dallas in August.
Maybe. I'm going to Dallas in August. Okay, this whole ending is getting way too long, so thank you guys for watching. Have a great close to your weekend. See you in August. Maybe see you in August, Dallas. Yes, see you in August. We believe in you. Continue to believe the other side. We hope you believe in yourself and whatever.
You want more of this?
You gotta point to the camera. It's here. What do you— Much love. Oh, you're blowing a kiss. Okay, we'll see you soon. Bye-bye.
