Seven years saving money using a properly structured whole life insurance policy. In this video we're going to do a seven year progress report and show you the numbers on my journey saving into a whole life insurance contract at the starting age of 23 years old. I'm now 29. So in June 17th of 2019 is when I funded my whole life policy using Guardian was the company that I chose. It meets many of the critical fundamentals when using a properly structured whole life insurance contract. Guardian is a privately held company, so it's mutually owned owner and US policy owners. It is a dividend paying company, so it pays dividends which is simply a return of premium plus more to the policy owners after a certain point in time. The plus more part is the capitalization point or the break even point where the principal amount of money I've paid In now all 100% of it plus more starts to show up in cash value. Dividend is a special designation under life insurance terms in a terms of permanent life insurance in a contract because whole life predates the irs. So whole life insurance gets a special designation in terms of how your money is growing. Tax deferred in the form of guarantees and non guaranteed dividends in the whole life insurance contract in the in the cash value so it meets those critical parts, has the guaranteed death benefit that gets paid out, cash value grows, it's structured properly. There are many different ways that you can structure a whole life insurance contract and I've made videos in the past in terms of how I like to go about doing that in this particular design. Here the Design is a 1090 split, meaning I've chosen to save $70,000 per year into this one whole life insurance contract with Guardian that's been around for 100 plus years, has paid dividends during all that time. Privately held mutual company, very strong fundamentals, all of it. In exchange I get a $4 million death benefit at the age of 23. That death benefit is still $4 million as of today. Again funding $70,000 per year. As of today, 2025 in the month of July, I have a cash value of $545,684.63. My cost basis, meaning the principal amount of money I've paid into the policy is 513,000. And I'm recording this video in July 29th of 2025. I'm now 29 years old. The 1090 split design is referring to where this money is going that I'm saving. So of the $70,000 I have $7,000 that goes to something called base premium. Base premium is a requirement. So for however long I live, all the way till maturity, this policy is required for me to pay $7,000 a year for the rest of my life. So even though I'm contributing 70,000, I'm only obligated to pay $7,000 per year, which we see the design. 10% goes to the base. The other 90% is going directly into what's called paid up additions, which goes into the cash value living benefit column on a, on a spreadsheet and also covers term insurance as well. Term insurance base premium covers whole life insurance. Whole life insurance is more expensive than term life insurance in the beginning years. Over time it flips. Term insurance over time becomes super expensive where whole life stays the same in correlation to the person's age. So at 23 years old, I'm locking in a $7,000 premium for my whole entire life versus that term insurance will change because it's only temporarily, right? For a term, temporary period of time. And if I continue to pay term insurance all through my 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, that is going to be a massive expense versus the 7,000 stays the same. Plus that 7,000 shows up in cash value as a living benefit. Another addition to be aware of here is although today my Death benefit is $4 million in 2025 and in 2019 it was $4 million, after we get past year eight, this death benefit is going to start to increase. So I have an increasing death benefit, an increasing guaranteed cash value component with a fixed set amount that I'm required to pay each and every year. And because of the way we design the policy, we are able to contribute more dollars than what's required, hence the 70,000. Now, if you look at my cost basis and you do the math well, 513,000 divided by seven years in Zelle isn't 70,000. It's more like 73. So what happened is with Guardian, you have, and this is with every life insurance company, when you do a whole life, you have what's called a MEC limit modified endowment contract. So 70,000 is what I'm committing to saving. So we designed it where the MEC limit is slightly above that number. And I have the ability to actually pay in more than $70,000 per year, which I have done, as you can see, in the cost basis. So now what I just did in the first five minutes of this video is just give you a breakdown of how the policy itself is performing alone. But there is a completely whole other component that often gets missed. When people try to compare this asset to maybe another asset, they typically only look at the internal performance of the whole life asset itself. Not realizing there's other things that you can do with this asset to increase the overall value of it. So of the amount of money I've saved into this policy, as I said, the 513,000 has grown to 545,000. Now clearly if you would have just taken the 70,000 and purchased the S&P 500 over the last seven years, you would have had more money than the 545. No doubt about that. I am not telling you to compare investing to a non investment opportunity. This is a non investment. This is not an atar. This is not an alternative investment. This is a, this is not an investment. This is a savings alternative. This asset will outperform high yield savings, money market account CDs and bonds over any long period of time. I would argue 10 to 15 plus years or more if set up and designed properly will outperform and with the right companies will outperform those particular safe fixed assets, but will not outperform investments. Now this does not mean that my money is only subject to the whole life. See like a bond or like a high yield savings or a CD or money market, your money is bound to just that account itself. The minute you take money out of it, you no longer earning interest in that account. You took that money out and you went and did something with it versus inside of the whole life insurance contract. When I take money out of the cash value into a separate location, this is where I get into the second part of how I leveraged the policy. When I take money out of this 545 that's available to me as a living benefit and I go do something with it, I'm going to continue to earn interest on that 545 as if I didn't borrow it, as if I didn't take the money out in the first place. The money's going to continue to grow. So what I did was I leveraged by borrowing against the cash value. The life insurance company guardian is giving me a loan and using my cash value as collateral. And what I did over the last seven years and I've done many more, I just kind of want to highlight some of the main things that I've done over the last seven years with this policy. And I do have other policies as well, I want to be transparent about that. But again, just focusing on this one over the last seven years, I've bought bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies which have performed because it's investment terms has performed much greater than the returns in here. So the money got used in two places. So bitcoin has shot up as you can see is hitting over $120,000 for just one bitcoin. And I've purchased Ethereum and I purchased stablecoin, USDC and I've purchased Kronos and Cardano. These are currencies that I've bought over the last seven years and have been building an entire portfolio that was once a few years ago worth over multiple six figures, which is really cool. So I took a small amount and that money grew to multiple six figures. At one point it was, I think it was, I want to say nearly 200,000 at one point. We are entering a bull season in the crypto space where we're seeing bitcoin rise and we're seeing many other cryptocurrencies rise with it. So I'm now seeing my account go back up to that range which is quite incredible. In addition, I've bought gold and silver, just held it. That money has doubled. I bought stocks mainly in particular I purchased AMC stock between as low as $2 and $5 a share. When back in I think it was between 2020, 2021 the stock went as high as 550 plus dollars a share. And I've been buying it by the by the bulk load because between 2 and $5 a share. Still buying it as of July 2025. In addition I bought a house and self financed repairs like doing impact windows and doors in my home, solar panels and other projects around the house. I financed a wedding in 2025 I got married. I financed a big portion of the costs through the policy. I financed the car one time back in 2021 and then I bought my mom a home as well a condo in 2025. So these are just some major critical points in my life in the last seven years what I've been able to do with the same dollars. So now at this point I have a bunch of loans inside of the life insurance contract and yet it still says I have this $545,000 available and I've got this loan out which I'm paying interest on back to the insurance company which then the insurance company pays me a dividend plus more. So my cash value continues to grow. Regardless of how long I have this loan outstanding and regardless of how much loan interest I pay, the amount of loan interest I pay back to the Insurance company at this point, guardian pays me back more than what I paid them in loan interest. So there is a positive arbitrage there. Small one, but it's there. Where the real arbitrage occurred is what the heck I did with the money when I borrowed it out. So now I have these other assets that have multiplied in value which are sitting in other locations, either creating cash flow or just increasing more value, which is increasing my capital, which could be leveraged again over there for other purposes. And if you were to add all this up, you know we're looking at a multi million dollar portfolio at this point by just saving money as a principal foundation where whole life was is the bedrock of the financial portfolio. If this is something you would like to incorporate into your personal finances, looking at what you're currently doing already, and you look at your portfolio and you say, okay, I have 60, 70% of my money is being invested and then I have 20, 30% that's sitting in cash, sitting in bonds, sitting in CDs, high yield savings money market cash under the mattress, whatever it may be. If you reallocated your liquidity dollars and parked that in whole life plus plus save money on a consistent basis, you're going to improve the overall entire financial portfolio.
