John Deere walks through the design of the 6R tractor's cab, built to feel as intuitive as using a smartphone. The controls are laid out to reduce operator fatigue and let farmers focus on the work instead of fighting the machine.
Make a tractor as intuitive as we use a smartphone today. That was the challenge we set ourselves when we developed the new 6R. We think it's the best user experience you will find on the tractor today. As engineers, we always want to add more features, but we had to recognize nobody wants to read manuals. They want to get started straight away. With tools like 3D printing, we were able to rapidly prototype different user interfaces. For instance, we removed the traditional instrument cluster around the steering wheel. We then integrated all the instrument data into a corner post display, making it easier and more ergonomic to use. Then we we looked at the physical controls. Take the new loaded joystick. It feels like an extension of your arm. It has logically positioned controls and the option to program buttons along your individual experience. You will find the 6R operating environment similar to the rest of our tractor range. It is all part of simplifying the user experience so you can do more faster. Go smart do more It.
