A farmer reflects on how technology has transformed agriculture and made the work more efficient and sustainable. He emphasizes the importance of embracing new tools while passing farming knowledge down through generations within his family.
The world of farming is completely different than other worlds. You have to love it when you're born into a farm family and you see your dad working in the dirt. Somehow or another that dirt gets in your blood. Farming has evolved. The technology is a means for making a farm work a lot more efficiently. They almost have to have that pressure put on them so they can keep up with what we need today for this world to even exist. When my dad was farming, it was just go get a load of fertilizer and spread it on this field. Gradually my dad gave the reins to my husband. My dad just adored David. And then I could see David letting my sons do that. He let them go and grow. We're just blessed, we're very blessed to have the boys we have and their eagerness to learn how they got so gung ho on this technology. They really did. They just. Maybe that's something that's in your blood too. I look over his computer and I see field and I see the swipes on the monitor and that is just amazing to me that they can be, it can be so precise to know exactly where you are. You pinpoint all the problem areas and you apply things to fix it, to make it so it's going to be more uniform, it's going to be more stable. You're not over applying. It's much better for our world. Anytime you have conversation, anytime you have direct contact with anyone, dealers, fellow farmers, fertilizer people, you're going to improve your relationship. You call up and the John Deere guy is here with parts. They do the delivery. My grandkids, what I see them, what I see them doing, they're going to be eventually showing the older folks how to do it, you know, and the older folks will be my sons. I think it's critical to get on the bandwagon with technology.
