This is a YouTube video titled "Automation - All eyes on the John Deere European Technology Innovation Center - Episode 2" featuring Benedikt Jung from the John Deere European Technology Innovation Center in Germany. The content is a presentation where Benedikt explains and demonstrates an intelligent large square baling ride control system designed to improve operator comfort during tractor operations by using a learning algorithm to reduce ride vibrations and cognitive stress.
Hi, my name is Benedikt Jung. I'm working at the John Deere European Technology Innovation center in Kaiserslautern, Germany, in the fields of automation and control. So the project I'm currently working on is an intelligent large square baling ride control for tractors. And it has the goal to make the right for an operator in the tractor more comfortable when he's doing large square bailing operation. That project also won a silver medal this year on the Agritechnica, and I'm very proud that it was that successful. So that was enough talking right now let's go to the tractor and I can show you how the system really works.
So now we're here at the machine. I would like to present you the intelligent large square baler ride control. This is the large square baler hooked up to a John Deere tractor. And now let's get into the cab and I explain you exactly what the software is doing. So here you can experience a regular large square baling operation. Ride comfort. So the baler is running right now, and as you can see, I move, moving back and forth in the seat with the frequency of the plunger. And this is making it hard for me to drink a coffee while I'm doing my work, for example. So I will turn on this feature right now that we developed. It's a learning algorithm, and now it's going to gradually improve the performance that we have. And it's automatically learning when the tractor has to accelerate and decelerate in certain bounds to make the ride more comfortable. So you can feel after a couple seconds, that cab is right now smoother. And I'm not pitching around in the tractor or moving around in the tractor as heavily as in the beginning. And this is what we do for our customer. We make it more comfortable for him to ride for 8 to 10 hours a day in a tractor so that he has less of a cognitive stress and he can basically enjoy his evening after work.
