Celebrating our Farmers | John Deere

Dairy farming is very demanding and gruelling. As farmers work 365 days of the year, we're out here doing this and milking cows, and we wouldn't change it for the world.

My brother and I have been farming together since '82. We started our partnership. And we started with a bulldozer and one secondhand header, and now we've got 12 machines and 4 bulldozers and make our own farm and country.

I love growing produce because it's something that we've done as a family for generations. It's amazing going across Australia and you can see your produce like as far as Townsville in the supermarket. I wouldn't imagine myself doing anything else now that I've been in the family business for about 10 years.

I grew up with a farm in the family. My grandfather was a beef cattle farmer. Spent a lot of time with him on the farm when I was a kid, and then in my late teens I went into agricultural contracting and then grew my business from there, eventually becoming a farmer.

Lots to love about farming. It's a great industry. There's so many different aspects to our business and in any farming business, whether it's agronomy, machinery operation, earthworks, team management, finance, future direction. There's always something happening, and that's always exciting.

I'm fifth generation, so what you love doing, you see, you see your dad doing it, you see your grandfather doing it. It's definitely where my passion is.

I think knowing that we could be our own employers and get to spend so much time with animals and really be rewarded for the work that we put in really brought it home to us that was what we wanted to do and raise a family with what we love.
