Combine Field Impression of John Deere T560i

Henry Straker Smith, a farmer near Kelso in the Scottish Borders, shares his experience with the John Deere T560i combine on his 900-acre farm. He highlights productivity gains and how RTK technology improves farming efficiency.
My name is Henry Straker Smith farming near Kelso in the Scottish Borders. 900 and something acre farm growing milling wheat predominantly with break crops of rape. Vining peas and we're trying linseed this year. We chose the new T560 as it was natural progression from the old T560 that we had. The biggest improvement I've seen in the T560 is in the sieve capacity which is significantly increased. Seeing a lot less grain going over the back, it's much easier. So we're just driving to power now. We've probably gone 20% or more in productivity across the rape, across the barley, much cleaner in the swath and huge improvements on the wheat. We have RTK and it's phenomenal. RTK allows us to set tracks in a field, but meaningfully so they're there the next year rather than having to reset them or shift them. And that realizes you so much more efficiencies. It is fundamental to our farming operation. Now we chose the Hill Master obviously because we have topography that makes it more challenging for a conventional combine. T560 is incredibly easy to set for each crop and you barely alter the setting to the crop. It does the job. Backup sort across all departments. The ams, the mechanical side is fantastic. Decent people there on call all the time. It's fundamental to our decision to choosing John Deere. I didn't actually fully appreciate the improvements they made to the T560 until this year. In a couple of hours, the field and it has exceeded my expectations.
