CommandQuad™ Transmission - John Deere 6M Tractors

This is a YouTube video titled "CommandQuad™ Transmission - John Deere 6M Tractors" created in February 2018. It features Jake Swanson, a product manager at John Deere, explaining the operation and benefits of the Command Quad transmission available on 6M tractors. The content is an informative presentation focused on the technical features and advantages of this tractor transmission system, aimed at potential users and customers.
Hi, my name is Jake Swanson, product manager for six family tractors with John Deere. Today we're going to look at the operation and benefits of the Command Quad transmission now available on all 6M tractors.
The command Quad transmission offers several features to make baling and loader jobs easier for the operator. Operators can now change gears and ranges on the go with the simple push of a button without clutching the machine. This new feature, or auto clutch, gives operators the ability to brake without using the clutch. And lastly, the new Auto Mode feature allows operators to set desired speeds using a thumbwheel and let the tractor manage the transmission and engine changes accordingly. Ideal for transporting from field to field or tillage work. Available in 24 forward and 24 reverse gears on the 6110 through 6145M and 20 forward and 20 reverse on the 6155 through 6195M. The command quad now gives the 6M an automated transmission option and continues to make the 6M tracker an ideal fit for livestock, dairy and hay operations. In our other quad transmissions, you may be used to a longer manual lever for range shifts with buttons on the side of the lever for gear shifts in the Command Quad. All of that functionality is now in a close compact location, which makes it easy and comfortable for those long days. Here's the park brake, the throttle and transmission controls. This control layout is very consistent with what you might have seen on other John Deere tractors. Now let's walk through how easy range shifts are in the Command Quad. These buttons are used to shift ranges. There are standard A, B and C ranges, great for heavy draft applications along with a multi range B through E, allowing for C seamless gear shifts and automatic range shifts without the use of a clutch or declutch button. This is great for when you need to rake ted or bail the fields before the rain. Gear shifts are simple using this lever in motion. Similar to a power shift transmission. Upshift by pushing forward, downshift by pulling back. Now let's go to the field and see this transmission in operation. When you have windrows with less crop, you can speed up and shift gears more comfortably with the soft shift feature of Command Quad. Soft shift smoothens the four speed power shift steps during upshifting. A slightly lower engine RPM than the current one is commanded by the transmission for a few milliseconds to match the right speed for downshift. The RPM is raised quickly and lowered again after the shifting has been completed. The Auto mode feature of the Command Quad transmission is ideal for transporting from field to field. To activate auto mode, click the gear lever into auto position. Now use your thumbwheel to set the target ground speed and the tractor will manage the engine and transmission by selecting the gear and RPM to optimize fuel efficiency. No manual shifting required. A requirement of baling is to stop the tractor frequently when a bale is ready to be wrapped and kicked out. Previously and with most competitors, clutching and breaking the tractor is required. However, in the command quad transmission on 6M, a new feature called auto clutch will make your day easier and less tiresome. Now, when the tractor needs to be stopped, simply just push the brake, which will engage the brakes and actuate the clutch. Motor work is another great example of frequently stopping and changing directions, which makes auto clutch the perfect feature to make your day easier. When you're moving bales, lightly engage the brake to roll into the bale, which also actuates the clutch. Picking up each bale now takes less steps and the same can be said when you're stacking bales and doing silage work.
Thanks for joining us today on the operation and benefits of the command quad transmission. For more information on 6M tractors, see your local John Deere dealership or deere.com.
