Customer Testimonial: Adams Angus Farm

Daniel Adams runs a fourth-generation Angus cattle farm in Union Springs, Alabama. He talks about breeding cattle and how Sunsouth has supported his operation with equipment and services over the years.
Whether it's, you know, prepping the food or pushing up the cattle and getting them ready for sale day, it's definitely a family atmosphere where we all get involved and pitch in to make the day possible. My name is Daniel Adams. I'm the fourth generation here at Adams Angus Farm in Union Springs, Alabama. My granddad and his dad moved down here in 1936 and bought the first registered Angus cows in 1939. And that's kind of where our story began back then. For many years they did a lot of row crops as well. But when my dad graduated from college back in the early 1980s, that's when they switched over to the cattle full time. And that's basically what's been the sole focus of our business for 40 years now, pretty much. We sell about 60 registered Angus bulls in our sale the first Saturday in January, and then another 25 female pairs the second Saturday in May. And that's the primary focus of our business today, along with doing a little bit of freezer beef on the side as well. Today we're running about 160 fall calving cows here on the main place right here in the house. And we have another 70 cows real close by down in Midway that we started our embryo herd on as well there too. On a day to day basis, we're, you know, out the door 7 every morning to start feeding the cattle. And that looks a little different throughout the year. Whether it's, you know, winter season and we're feeding hay and a little bit of supplement on our younger cows, or just our daily feeding for our bull development, heifer development as well too. Other family health is definitely our dogs around here. And while informally trained, they still do a lot for me, especially when it's by myself out here on the day. Whether it's pushing up the cattle to the trough every day on our younger animals, or if I have someone that's sick and needs a little bit of attention, they get out there and get after it with me. We did that just this morning too with getting up a calf to treat them a little bit. It's a huge help having them out and just gives you somebody to ride around to. Makes a good buddy as well. As far as our relationship with Sunsouth, I mean, really most all my life that I can remember, almost everything has been green. I mean, whether that's our tractors, our balers, hay cutter, our no till drill, all of it. I mean, we've had a great relationship with sun for many, many years now. And it doesn't just extend equipment sales. It relates to parts and service as well, too. And if I've ever needed a part and it needed to be quick, I can call up at the, you know, out there in Brundage, and they'll have it at the counter ready for me when I need it, and I can turn around and go real quick that way. And we also have, you know, a little bit of delivery options on our well, too, from the Columbus outfit over there as well. So it's just been a good relationship for us, and just the people have really been able to help us, you know, and that's been as much as anything as the reason we continue to use Sun Sale.
