John Deere forage harvesters use a longitudinal engine layout that improves operator visibility, makes servicing easier, distributes weight better, and cools the engine more efficiently.
Do you know the benefits of a longitudinal engine? There are many reasons to consider a machine with this engine design, of which we have on both our 8 and 9000 series SPFH. These include a slimmer body which makes a better view in the rear for the operator, also better component accessibility for servicing, and a good weight distribution which reduces a high additional ballast requirement. There's also the possibility to drive individual pumps mounted to the bevel gearbox like the independent feed rolls to help clear blockages. But arguably more important is the optimal airflow down both sides of the engine for more efficient engine cooling. This alone saves 20 kilowatts, or just under 30 horsepower. Trust in our proven engine layout for enhanced accessibility, stability and driving comfort for your operators.
