Experience the Future of Farming with the JOHN DEERE T5 700 Combine!

This is a YouTube video titled "Experience the Future of Farming with the JOHN DEERE T5 700 Combine!" created in August 2025. The content features a detailed monologue by a single speaker discussing their farming operations in south Shropshire, focusing on the use and features of the John Deere T5 700 combine harvester, including its technology, performance on hilly terrain, and benefits for crop and straw management.
We're here in south Shropshire, just south of Shrewsbury, on the farm that we've been farming here for just over 100 years now. We're predominantly arable now. We used to be a mixed dairy farm. We're growing predominantly wheat and oilseed rape. So a very close rotation of rape followed by two wheats. And all our wheat is a million wheat. So we use varieties of Skyfall and Diet. We swath the straw, sell the straw off the farm as much as we can. We do chop headlands to make life a bit easier for the baler men. And if it does get wet, we haven't got the problem with tedding straw out. We started our combines with a 1055 John Deere many years ago. Currently we're running a T560 and we've given the opportunity to try the new T5 700, which I'm very excited about. My first impressions from this new model, Big improvements in the cab. We've got the Gen 5 screen, which has got a lot of information on there, a lot more information than what we used to have on the T560. Lots of things to learn. And now that the joystick is now the equivalent to the Command Pro joystick, which is the way forward, I think, with the John Deere models, tractors and combines. Seems to have a lot more room in the cab. Plenty of space for storing things. Nice little feature. Be able to put your phone in the armrest. The visibility is very good. Mirrors are excellent. We worked into the dark last night and thought the lights were phenomenal. As you can see, this combine, we've got a Hill Master. We've been using Hill Masters now for probably the last 15 years. Very impressed with the Hill Master system. As you can see, we're in some quite hilly terrain in this area of the country. Matched with the header, the new header that they have on this combine. Using it last night, I found that it followed the contours very well and it left our stubble height very consistent. And even in laid patches, it was able to retrieve that off the floor. Not only has this combine got the Hill Master, it has also got the terrain automation. So as we're going up a hill, the sieves will open up and the wind speed will slow down. And then opposite, when you're going down a hill, those sieves will close and the wind speed will increase. And that's fully automated. Last night we used it and you could actually see it moving on the screen. And the grain sample was great. It was as good going down the slopes as it was going up the slopes and the returns were excellent. So this combine obviously is a straw walker machine and we've stuck with the straw walker. I've got quite a few clients that I do contracting for which want the straw quality. And we find that the T series combines don't smash the straw up as much as what a rotary would. And the quality, we sell quite a bit of straw from here and we find that the straw bales up really well. We try and record the yield maps. We've been recording yield maps for now, best part of 15 years, I suppose. So we use those because we also do variable rate nitrogen applications, variable rate spraying. So we use the technology from the yield to move across onto our soil maps and move forward with that. Very easy to set up. Very similar to the old combine. Different layers, moisture yield. It will then send that up into the cloud. It'll be there so we can look at that later date in the office. The standout features on this combine are the active terrain system. Also that new header. Very impressed with that new header. The hill master is now controlled with the the GPS receiver, which I think will be a lot more accurate, a lot smoother. The shape of the combine, as you can see, they've changed the shape. Looks very smart. Also the straw management and everything else. It's a really good package and I even like the color of it.
