From Down Under to UK Fields: Victoria's Journey with the S7 John Deere Combine!

Victoria moved from farming in Australia to work on a UK farm with the new S7 John Deere combine. She walks through the harvester's technology and features, explaining how they make the work more efficient and easier to handle in the field.
I completed my degree at Half Adams in Agriculture in 2019 and decided to do what most ag students do and fly over to the other side of the world to Australia. Stayed over there for three years and completed four seasons on the combine 2022. I then came back to the UK just before harvest made, met James and he offered me a job here on the farm. And I've now been here for two and a half years and this is my third season on the combine here. So we've had the S7 combine on farm now for a couple of days. Today I've had the opportunity to have a drive of it. I love anything new technology, anything that can make my life easier and can make the farm more efficient and the job itself as well. I'm quite impressed with the new predictive ground speed that. That is quite a jump forward from the previous Harvard smart and our S790 with the addition of the cameras and being able to actually see what's in front of you with predictive yield and everything all working together, that's quite impressive. I found our S790 was slightly slow to react, whereas that I actually trusted it through bare bits, you know, as going into crop, and it could tell it before it even had crop in the front, which was quite impressive. So I also like the harvest settings automation. It proved a lot simpler than the S790. Previously, we would have to tell the combine what was going on and what we kind of wanted to change. It was broken grain or grain losses. You would have to say what you saw initially wrong and there was a big long list of them. Whereas now it's narrowed it down to three. So you have cracked grain, grain losses and foreign material. And I found that quite easy then to set up, although it looks very different. And you've got to get your head around that. Instead of telling the machine that you had a list of text things and it would only change one setting, this now you will go, I've got too many grain losses. And it would change a multitude of settings and say if you've got a dirty sample, you tell it that. But it wouldn't just change one thing, it would change multiple. It would be your speed, your threshing speed, your fan, all of these kinds of things, they all work together, they're not just a one fix. The cab itself has been lovely. The machine has been really nice to drive. Lovely leather seats and a massage seat. That was quite the surprise when I slept stepped in there this morning. Air cooling on a lovely hot day like today, it's quite nice, the new Apple CarPlay. And it looks very smart. Looks very similar to an X9, although a slightly smaller model, but still looks pretty, pretty flat to me.
