How To Fine-Tune AutoTrac™ Turn Automation On A Self-Propelled Applicator

This is a YouTube video titled "How To Fine-Tune AutoTrac™ Turn Automation On A Self-Propelled Applicator" created in July 2025. The video provides a detailed tutorial on adjusting turn automation settings for agricultural machinery to optimize field operations, covering scenarios like boundary detection and turn alignment adjustments.
In this video, we'll show you how to fine tune the turns planned by Turn Automation. Since default settings don't always fit every field situation, we'll show you some common scenarios where adjustments can help. The first scenario we will cover is when the system detects that a planned turn will leave the field boundary. You have two options to resolve this. Option one is to increase the size of the headland, giving the machine a larger area to make the automated turn. Option two is to start the turn sooner. This can be done using the Start Turn or Shift row settings, which is dependent on the guidance type you're actively using. In this case, we will reduce the Start turn offset as we are using an auto path boundaries guidance plan. Using one or a combination of both adjustment options will result in the turn that will keep your equipment inside the field boundary during the turn. The second scenario we will cover is when the turn is not aligned precisely with the headland guidance line. You also have two options to resolve this. Option one is to reduce the size of the turn. The turn size value can be adjusted down to zero, which may be necessary in some situations, especially when the headland is smaller than 90 degrees like it is in this scenario. Just remember, the smaller the turn size, the smaller or tighter the turn. The option two is to reduce the minimum turn radius, keeping the adjusted turn size at 0 incrementally reduce the minimum turn radius value found within the advanced settings. Take note of the impact small adjustments to the minimum turn radius has on the planned turn when relative to the headland guidance line. It's important to understand that though we are adjusting the minimum turn radius value, the actual minimum turn radius of the machine does not change. If this value is reduced too much, you may not see desired line tracking accuracy around the turn. And remember, for best performance, the smaller or tighter the turn, the slower you should drive the turn. And that's how you fine tune the turns planned by Turn Automation.
