INSIDE X9 - Harvest Motion | John Deere

John Deere engineers explain the X9 combine's Harvest Motion system, which adjusts engine power and driveline to boost efficiency and fuel savings during harvesting. The design cuts fuel consumption while maintaining performance in the field.
John Deere designs and manufactures the X9 engines which generates the power required when it is needed. To further enhance the combine's efficiency, we have optimized the power and driveline concept. It's a concept we call Harvest Motion. All the core components of the engine are completely new, including the engine head, self adjusting valves and turbocharger, right through to the high pressure common rail technology. Together, these design improvements bring significant power savings. The torque curve for the X9's 13.6 litre engine is designed so it's almost completely flat between 1,900 and 1,700 rpm. Engineering the different crop flow components to operate in this lower RPM sweet spot minimizes fuel and power consumption. The torque curve is also designed so that even if the engine speed drops lower during tough conditions such as high moisture, crop or challenging terrain, there's still tremendous reserve capacity. This avoids excessive strain on the engine and minimizes fuel consumption. With the very low 1900rpm during operation, harvest Motion is good for your running costs too. It delivers higher throughput at lower cost per ton with average fuel savings of up to 20%.
