John Deere 1 Series vs. 3 Series: Best Tractor & Implements for Every Job

Phil from SunSouth compares John Deere's 1025R and 3025E compact tractors, both 25 horsepower models. He walks through engine specs, what implements each can handle, and which tractor fits different property sizes and jobs.
Hey guys, this is Phil coming to you from sunsouth down here in Dothan, Alabama. Today. I just want to take a quick minute and showcase some differences between a couple of 25 horsepower compact tractors. We're going to showcase the 1025R and the 3025E. Just kind of go over some similarities, some differences and what you could use one for, maybe the other one, and just kind of break it down to get you a better fit for you and your outfit and what you're looking to do around your land or, or your homestead or, or what you guys got going on. So on the 1025R, so it is a subcompact 25 horsepower tractor. This is a 1.2 liter, three cylinder diesel and got a lot of different implement versatility on this subcompact tractor. This tractor is good for somebody who's got anywhere from half an acre upwards to, you know, three to four acres. You know, if you got some small jobs you need to do around the house, whether it's cutting grass, whether it's, you know, spreading mulch, you know, keeping a driveway graded, you know, different things like that. You've got a good, strong, reliable tractor here. It's an R model, so it's more of a premium series. So you've got a higher back, nice comfortable seat, some different creature comforts like tilt steering, you know, cruise control, different things like that. And with it also being a subcompact, you've got the attachment, versatility of a mower deck. So for, like I said, if you've got some nice manicured sod around the house that you want to keep manicured and you don't want to buy a zero turn and you're kind of wanting one machine that's going to do it all, this one can do it. With John Deere's drive over mower decks, you can get them in a 54 inch or a 60 inch and so you drive on and hook up to it, mow your grass, you don't have to worry about hooking up any kind of PTO shafts or anything. You drive over it, hook it up, set your height of cut where you want to cut and then go to town cutting grass. When you're done with that, if you need to spread a little gravel, park the deck back off of it and then, you know, go to work with your loader. So just an all around a good subcompact unit for, like I said, anywhere from that one to three, maybe four acres. You know, a lot of different attachment versatility being a 25 horsepower tractor and then we'll go over to like a 3 series. So when you're stepping up you could go to a 3025E. So although it's a 25 horsepower tractor, still, what are we getting? Why would we want a three series versus a one series? So a three series is more tailored to people that have more than three to four acres. So maybe you got anywhere between five to maybe 15 and you want a little more capable compact tractor, something that can push and pull a little more weight around. If you've got, you know, some pastures or some roughage that you need to mow and you need a little bit bigger implement versatility. On a 1025R, you kind of want to stick with four foot implements, whereas on a 3025E you can bump up to some five foot implements because you've got a 1.6 liter 25 horse engine on this one. So you've got a little bit bigger displacement so it can handle that load a little better. But not only that, both tractors are both hydrostatic transmissions. So. So the pump displacement is bigger on a 25, so it can handle that load better on a 5 foot cutter than you could on a 1025R. Also like I said, due to the weight and frame size, pulling a five foot box blade, you know, five foot land plane, you know, if you're getting in and trying to rip up some driveway to level it back out after a hard rain, the 3025 is going to have a little more weight to be able to push and pull versus the 1025R. You know, with that same five foot implementation where you lack at on the 3025E, you're not really lack. It's a little more simple operator platform, you got a nice comfortable seat, two range hydrostatic transmission. You don't have the option of a mower deck on a 3 Series or a 3e because of just the undercarriage. It's a little structured a little differently, but you can run, you know, five foot finishing mower. So if you want that same manicured grass look, but you know you've got a really big front yard, then you can option for a, a gruin mower instead of a, you know, a rotary cutter. Lift capacity is between the two. So they're both 25 horsepower. But like I said, bigger pump displacements on a 3025E. On a 3 Series, you're looking anywhere between around, you know, £1,000 lift capacity safely. You know, we Always recommend, you know, being properly balanced with water in the rear tires and maybe throw a box plate on the back end. Whereas on a one series when you bump down to it, you're looking anywhere between around 7 to 800 pounds safely lift capacity. And of course you want to be the same way on that run. Rear wheel weights or maybe a box blade on the back just to, you know, for overall safety. Both of them loader wise, you have quick attach buckets. So you can take the buckets off, you can run pallet forks, you can run grapples, you know, you've got, you know, different loader versatility as well on the front and then on the back. Like I said, the options are endless. You've got rotary cutters, you got box blades, you got grooming mowers, you know, flail mowers. The options these days are pretty much endless to fit your needs and your outfit. And so now that we talked a little bit about both of the tractors, we'll walk over and I'll show you some of the different implements and attachments that you can run on each one and go over some different features of those. So right here guys, starting with attachment versatility for the three point. So you've got backhoes. Backhoes are a growing segment. A lot of people like the versatility of them. On a 1025R you can get a 260B quick attach backhoe, six foot digging depth, six foot reach on that. Or if you're looking at a 3 Series package because you got more acreage, you can go with a 370B quick attach backhoe, seven foot digging depth, seven foot REITs on this one. Like I said, both quick attach. So five minutes or less on and off, real simple. So rotary cutters, bush hogs per se. Right here we got a four and a five foot cutter. So all of our frontier cutters are going to come standard slip clutch, stump jumpers, laminated tail wheels. You've got different versatility and adjustments on both. Both units are quick hitch compatible. So if you got a quick hitch on your tractor, easy, you know, on and off, hooking it up on the one series, you're going to look at your four foot implements, four foot attachments. So 1025R, hook this cutter up, mow all the grass you need to. If you're going to a three series, jump up to a five foot cutter, cover your tire tracks, knock down a little more grass, a little faster. Both of these are great attachments. Inch and a half cut capacity, so jumping to some front end attachments. Like I said on Both tractors, the 1 Series and the 3 Series, quick attach buckets. So grapples are a big cleanup tool around just about anybody's house, homestead farm. So you've got 53 inch root grapples for one series. You can jump up to a 60 inch grapple on a three series. Both are single hydraulic driven, so you would have to add a third function to your tractor. So another three point attachment that's a very popular option is a box blade. You see them a lot in our package deals that we offer and put online. So of course with a 1025R or one series, you're going to want to look at a four foot box blade. On a three series you got the strength and the power. You can jump up to a five foot box blade. They do have adjustable gains and pitches, so you know if you're needing to kind of do it to scrape up some roots around a, you know, job site that you're finishing up or level off anything. Another good grading tool is a land plane. So if you got just a driveway or a road that you need to maintain, so the land plane is going to give you a nice flat finish, it's not going to carry as much dirt when you're pulling it like a box blade does. You do have adjustable scarifiers on it as well. And then box blades, lamp planes, all of them are quick hitch compatible. Another three point attachment that's very handy. Guys, your wife, your girlfriend, she wants farm animals. You got dogs, you got to put up fence. Don't do it with a post hole digger, do it with a tractor post hole digger. Hook it up. We got them from 125s that fit on one series all the way up to 395s that go all the way up to three fours and five series guys, different auger size, you can go from a 6 inch all the way up to a 16 inch. So a lot of different attachment versatility on those. You know, if you need to set corner posts regular, just fence post, you know, save your hands and shoulders and get one for your tractor going back to the front end. Versatility guys on attachments. So pallet forks. Pallet forks are another great attachment to use around the house or the farm, whether it's loading, unloading, pallets aside, pallets of feed or just, you know, moving logs doing different things. We've got racks for the 1 Series and the 3 Series 48 inch forks and they are adjustable in and out. Another good three Point attachment guys is tillage equipment. So whether it be disc Harris or rotary tillers, both are good pieces to have around. You know, they both have different aspects to them, what you're going to use them for. So if you're wanting a, you know, a rough, a rough chop, if you're cutting in some old grass and you're getting ready to reseed some pasture, maybe you're wanting to cut some fire brace and get ready to do some burning discs are going to be the way to go. Run through a little faster than you could with a tiller and be able to cover more ground faster. The frontier tillers you do have gang adjustability, good heavy duty disc, quick hitch compatible on the frontier tillers. So tillers are going to give you a nicer smooth finish on top, you know. So if you're getting ready to do a garden bed or something like that, you know, tillers are going to give you a flatter topsoil. They are quick hitch compatible. Frontier tillers are gear driven slip clutch as well on these. So you know you've got good, rugged, dependable equipment. You don't have to worry about making chain adjustments, anything like that. You know, just good overall tillage equipment on both. So whether you know, you want something in the woods to put in food plots or you know, if you're needing something at the house to do a garden with, you got attachments to go either way. All right guys. So in short, you know, we jumped over the, the one series and three series today, but Deere's got a full lineup of tractors from ones all the way to five. We got anything from four foot attachments all the way up to 15 foot attachments. So whatever your acreage, your land, your dream is, we can make it happen. Come see us, we can build package deals. You know, if you want a 3 Series and you want two or three attachments, you know, we can do that. You know, we can even, you know, source trailers as well. So you can hook up and haul everything out of here you need and go right to work. Just come by, come see us. You know, when you, when you're thinking of that project this spring, getting ready to get in the dirt. Thank John Deere and thanks Sun Sal.
