Simon Doolan, a dry land farmer from northern New South Wales, and others test John Deere's new 9RX 830 tractor. They discuss its performance, efficiency, and automation features built for practical farming needs.
How are you? Good to meet you, Malcolm, always. Thanks, Peter. He's even got his hat on.
Simon Doolan. I'm a dry land farmer in northern New South Wales. North Star's the village I'm near. I was invited to the States by John Deere to input into a new tractor that John Deere worth building. There was myself, there was five Canadians and six Americans. And we're all farmers from similar sort of backgrounds from all parts of the world. When we got over there, John Deere gave us a few ideas of what they were thinking. They sat us down in a boardroom. We have the engineers of the gearboxes, the engines, the seat manufacturers, all of this sort of stuff. And they put us on a panel up the front and we absolutely, we drilled them, we told them what we wanted in our dream tractor. They asked us lots of questions, we gave them lots of feedback on their previous models and they listened, they really listened to what we had to say. It was really good. My role, I felt, was to get across that our gear is getting bigger. We need more efficiencies in our farming systems and so we need bigger horsepower and tractors that fulfil the purpose of the job. We need big hydraulic capacity, we need good power, power to weight ratio. We need all of these things combined in one package. Looking at new John Deere product ideas, talking about autonomy, talking about new ideas that they're coming up with creature comforts in the cab, trying to make the tractors as good and as practical as we can. When I saw the tractor in America, it looked good, but seeing it out here, hooked up to the planters that we use, it's an absolute piece of work. All of the fill points are in the right place, the air cleaners are all serviceable from the ground. It made me just realise how much better this new model is. See all this serviceability, this is what.
We'Re all about, trying to get all of this, say, not up on the ground.
Before we got the machines, we'd heard a lot about them and they've lived up to their expectations. Comfortable cabs, you got the horsepower, everything's very user friendly. We've picked up 6 to 8k an hour what we thought and maybe more.
This machine is going to make us more efficient. It's going to get our job done quickly and more timely. And looking at the figures on those gauges in the cab, we're going to be doing it for less money. Automation in AG is. It is the way of the future. There's no doubt about that. That's giving us better productivity, better consistency. Once that's all integrated into this machine, it's going to be a fantastic package.
