John Deere Africa | Introducing the JDTelelink App

Bali and Mahuma walk through the JD Telelink app, a telematics system for John Deere tractors that tracks fuel usage, engine health, location, and work reports to help farmers monitor and manage tractor performance remotely.
Security.
Mahuma, how are you?
Hi Bali. I'm good, thanks. Yourself?
Oh, Maluma. One of my tractors had run out of diesel again and the other one is urgently due for a service.
Why has it run out of diesel?
It keeps running out of diesel sooner than it should and I haven't been able to diagnose the issue.
Haven't you heard about the new app that you can manage that and see it from a distance from far away and you can monitor your machines.
Really?
Yeah, it's from John Deere. It's called JD Telelink. I have one on my machines. If you don't mind, let me show you quickly. J.D. tunneling. It's an application that lets you be connected to your machine anytime, anywhere you want.
Connected? What do you mean by connected?
John Deere used advanced technology to create JD Taillink system for tractors. And this is specifically for the 5D and the 5E series and other system. How it works is it monitors and generates reports for different critical parameters of your operation and the performance of your tractor. And all this information is readily available on your Android smartphone. So you stay connected without being on your farm.
Yeah, sounds like something I need.
What happens is your tractor is fitted with a high technology controller and a local SIM card to remain in constant contact with your Android phone. JD Telelink allows you access to what's going on with your tractor anytime, anywhere.
Okay, well that sounds interesting. So what exactly can I see on this app?
Well, it's a number of things that you can see. For example, you can keep an eye on the location of the tractors. You can receive mobile alerts, things like sudden decrease in fuel level and an update on current engine hours. Or when for example, somebody removes the battery, then you get an alert. It can also measure the hectares you're working on in the field with a 90% accuracy. It is very useful.
Well, I see. I have many tractors on my farm. Will I be able to connect all of them?
Yes, definitely. JD Telelink system. You can connect all your tractors and all the activities and can also pull reports for each one of them.
A report? What kind of a report?
There's engine utilization report that will tell you how many hours your tractor has operated at what RPMs. And if that doesn't match the workload, you can assist the operator to improve the tractor efficiency. Another report is the work report which tells you when the tractor is started, how long has it been running, the fuel consumption, etc. Etc. And by observing and analyzing this report, you can update work schedules and increase the productivity of the tractor. You can also compare your tractor's fuel consumption with others in the fleet and by analyzing the fuel usage, you can plan ahead and never run out of fuel again.
I can't believe JD Telelink has so many useful features. It sounds very advanced. So what if something in the engine fails? Will JD TerryLink still be able to send me those reports?
Great question. If any engine components are not functioning correctly, you get an alert on your phone for things like sudden drop in engine oil pressure, an increase in coolant temperature, a blocked air filter, a discharge battery, and even low engine oil levels. You'll stay updated on all these functions wherever you are and have it attended to before any failures happen. In addition, your John Deere dealer will also get engine related alerts as well as when the tractor is due for service and a qualified technician will contact you and arrange for a service. Another bonus is that the Telematics app is available in eight different languages.
This JD Tele link really sounds like a great system. Its features are incredibly unique and useful. I appreciate you telling me about this. I am definitely interested in having this fitted to all my tractors.
I'm happy to hear that. Visit your nearest John Deere dealer and get connected.
Mahuma it was great seeing you. Now let me go and get connected.
Not a problem. Keep well. Wishing you all the luck. Sam.
