The video was created in March 2019.
My name is John Ocheng from Nakuru County, Kenya and I am a crop manager. We are large scale farmers based here in Kenya doing what we call conservation agriculture.
How I got to farming is because of the issue to do with the food security, just to give food in the country, to be able to feed the country. And again, I got into farming because of business. I mean for economical growth. You know, farming or agriculture is not something that you the theoretical written papers. But there's the practical part of it and most of the time there's a contradiction between the papers and practically on ground. Yes, you use science to guide you. But most of the time practically in the field is where now you can really get to know how nature lives. We've really achieved a lot because before.
We started with the John Deere tractors, we were using like eight tractors in convectional. But now with the change of technology, using the John Deere machinery, right from the tractors to the harvester. Currently I'm proud enough to say that we only have one machine, one tractor and one sprayer, one harvester.
What has really helped us with the John Deere, because of the precision planting, we are able to, I mean, do all these crops comfortably, no problem.
When we decided to go grow green to John Deere because they are green, everything changed green.
It's becoming a talk of the day. Just use the small space. You have to do something that can bring, I mean you can have food so that we can have food security at the same time to be able to export. So it can happen and it is going to happen because we are moving.
