John Deere Africa | Lerato Senakhomo

This is a YouTube video titled "John Deere Africa | Lerato Senakhomo" featuring Lerato Senakhomo discussing her passion for farming, the generational nature of her family farm in Niger, and how support from John Deere has helped her expand and modernize her agricultural operations. The content is a personal narrative focused on farming and agricultural development in South Africa, recorded in March 2020.
Farming, it's who I am. I breathe farming, I eat farming. Farming is in my mind at every single time that I wake up, even on my sleep, it's always in my mind. I love farming. My name is Lerato Senahomu. We here in Niger, 535 hectares. Our farm is a generational farm. It's a farm that started by both my parents. Most of the other skills I got from my dad, which were transferring skills around the field, helping each other, giving me knowledge there and there. My mom is mostly on the book side of the company and then she's the one that manages everything in the financial side with my dad, he said one thing, you, you always build a family legacy. And so that that's what the farm is all about. It's not about me, it's not about him, it's about us as a family. So he always said, you know what? When I die, I want to say I want to be buried on this farm. When you die as well, you must be buried on this farm. So it's one of those things that whether you like it or not, you need to join it. I want to give people at school transmit sometimes giving them the knowledge it won't work. So I'm giving them a skill that they can come and plant here, resell and make profit and make a living through it. Through financial statements, they help me through getting the right recording system. Them, they helped me. I didn't have a tractor when I got here, so they got me a tractor, they got me a planter that made my life very easy. Instead of that, when I was hiring, I could plant only 50 to 80 hectares. Today I'm planting 100 hectares, which are moving to 200 very soon. Having your own equipment with the joint duty team working with me, it had helped me a lot. And taking my P to a different scale. I'm much more excited about the future of agriculture in South Africa because every day I meet new farmers with different activities, with different ideas on their farms. So I see that our agricultural world in the youth sector, it's really growing. I've managed to expand my hills on the millies side. I've managed to keep records of everything that's going on on the farm. And my life has been a lot easier with JO team on board. Thank you very much.
