John Deere Africa Middle East | Factory to Farm | Episode 2

This is a YouTube video titled "John Deere Africa Middle East | Factory to Farm | Episode 2" created on June 23, 2023. The content is a multilingual (primarily English and Afrikaans) presentation featuring Jake Flanders, Future Product Manager at John Deere, discussing the design and productivity benefits of tractor cabs, including comfort, visibility, and ease of use. The video also includes commentary from other speakers describing a visit to the world's biggest truck stop in Waterloo, Iowa, and insights into factory operations. The format is more of a narrated presentation with multiple speakers but not a conversational dialogue involving Francisco Jimenez.
3, 2, 1 Here we go!
Is.
Sure viral met ons kip het voortgaan dat we het de meest integratie persigie aag gespeerings en technologie in de industrie het niet gespeerings met die soms van ons kompetitie van andere company's en die proberen dat te proberen en die gespeerings van die blame game you know when something goes wrong it's all designed in house for one cohesive experience and i think that really shines through to the end user so that goes without saying but what we focus on in our cab is always three main things it is comfort it is visibility and it is ease of use and if we cover those three things our customers tell us we're doing the right thing and really when it comes to this this latest cab design which we first launched in 2020 you know we've not only upgraded things since then like our technology with our new gen 5 display in our in our corner post but we've really gone to the next level in terms of consistency across the cabs as well so we're taking that comfort visibility needs of use across multiple pieces of equipment and making that more similar for example we've got the same seat in our harvesting equipment in our sprayers and and it's a lot of the similar controls and so what our customers have told us is that that reduces mistakes number one because you're having a similar experience in multiple cabs that matter so the learning curve is much exactly the learning curve shorter and that's that's the other thing is is is when you have customers or operators that are not always in the same cab right or maybe they're part time yes then they have a shorter learning curve when they get into each cab because of that similarity of how it operates so that's.
Fascinating but interesting you talk about visibility so i'm fascinated that you know that that has an impact on on driver comfort and also what what is what's all in the window obviously there's there's a bit of method in the madness.
Right right you know so you get in any cab you're going to have big squares of glass right it doesn't matter if it's us or somebody else but what matters more is the design of the exterior components the slope of the hood the width of the hood do the fenders get in the way of what you're trying to see you know your exhaust stack and and how does that all come together to provide the operator the optimal visibility to what they're doing so they don't make mistakes so they don't run into things and then we supplement that with integrated cameras so we have an integrated camera in the front in the rear to help them see what's happening and not only that we also paid special attention to our lighting system right so a lot of work gets done at night and uh and when you have that turning night in today with those high output led lights right that can actually cause a strain on you if you don't do that right so some of our competitors they have zones that are further away or um in misshapen right so they have some dimmer zones and some lighter zones and your eyes have to adjust to those differences see and over time that can be very fatiging um so we actually create a very homogenous uh very consistent circle of light around.
The like a sports arena right and.
It'S something you know we don't have those shadows you can see your entire implement behind you and when you're not straining to see some of those things uh it makes you less fatigue at the end of the day so interesting.
I mean obviously we're talking about the driver and the comfort and fatigue i mean what what there must be a physiological research you guys do so tell us more about studying the human body eyes everything that obviously translate into the.
Ultimate design absolutely when we design all these components we go to the next level hey we we put eye trackers on our customers and we know exactly what they're looking at when they're pressing buttons um and you know they say.
Is uh is there like 80 20 80 percent of people place the same button or this you know the same.
Well yeah for sure we pay attention to what buttons are pressed most right and where should they go um so they're more convenient um for the customer um and like i said what what are they looking at some customers will say i i operate everything blindly i don't ever look i need to just be able to look out here while i'm operating well actually when you put an eye tracker on them they do look down at those buttons the peripheral it's a quick glance right but they don't understand they don't notice that they're looking and so doing those little things with our user experience team which we have in inhouse user experience team um they help us study that scientifically so we can make the right decisions for the customer.
