John Deere Africa | Par 3 Challenge | 2020

James Ferens and Stefan Nell host the inaugural John Deere Par 3 golf challenge in Cape Town, South Africa. Winners earned a trip to the John Deere Classic in the USA, with the event emphasizing community and family participation.
Hi, my name is James Ferens. What a great event it's been culminating in this experience here for these golfers from Joburg and Cape Town at the President Hotel. A beautiful place and they've been treated like royalty. All thanks thanks to the sponsors John Deere. Thursday morning we flew the guys from Joburg down to Cape Town, got to the hotel, they checked in up in their rooms where they were given some goodies. We then Thursday evening had a welcome dinner where the sponsors welcomed everybody on behalf of them. We explained all the rules for the competition. The guys got to know each other and we had a really, really nice meal. So Friday morning, woke up at leisure, had some breakfast. The buffet was amazing here at the President Hotel. Made our way to the golf course. The guys got to practice nine holes just to see the cond. Absolutely perfect it was this morning, but the wind got up this afternoon, I must tell you. Nine holes, par three and only two people can win this prize. Off they went, four o' clock, we teed off and the tension was high on the first tee. You could hear a pin drop on the grass. That's how tense it was out there. We watched the golf, the guys were amazing and we came back to the hotel for prize giving dinner and announcing the winners. Doug and Craig are winning their way to the John Deere classic in the U.S.
I'M Stefan Nell, I'm the marketing manager for John Deere in Sub Saharan Africa. Tonight we celebrate our very First John Deere P3 challenge for South Africa where we announce the winners for the first tournament. It's inauguration tournament. We're here in the lovely Cape Town, very nice weather. We had a good function where we awarded all the players that played today in the final in the Rondebosch Country Club. It was the north team versus the south and we were very honored to award our very two first winners that will as prize money, get all expenses paid, trip to the USA and not only be able to go and experience and take part and see the John Deere Classic, but to also play in the John Deere Pro app. So the reason for John Deere to participate in this event is actually to build and get our brand recognized to a wider audience that live the John Deere values every day as well and want to experience it. And it's all about connecting with friends and family and building networks. And what we've seen specifically in this tournament is how the family gets time to spend together during these events and even in the final. Today we had a son and a father combination it was awesome to see the interaction, enjoyment on their faces as they play the game.
The John Deere challenge was really a success. Cape Town brought out its best weather. Rondebosch Golf Club, our green keeper did a fantastic job. I think we had 16 people playing in an event which in its inaugural year was a fantastic event to John Deere. They really had the courage to go with something which was completely new to golf. It was an idea which came out of left field and they went with it. And I think in five years time, I think John Deere is going to reap the rewards of branding, having a strong brand in golf in South Africa. So to the players, to the organisers, to John Deere specifically, we say a hearty thanks.
