This is a YouTube video titled "John Deere Africa | S700 Harvest Tour | Vereeniging" containing a discussion from September 21, 2019, focused on agricultural technology and innovation by John Deere. The speakers talk about the challenges of feeding a growing global population, the need to double crop production using technology, and opportunities in South Africa's agricultural sector. The content features two speakers sharing insights on John Deere's role and experiences in Africa's crop harvesting market.
World population is growing up and there is expectation that by 2050 it could be 9 billion from a six and a half billion today. Now, we also know that to feed those many people, our land is not going to increase. So if we have to feed them properly, probably our production has to double what it is today and double the production for corn, soya, bean, everything. And that means you have to produce double from the same land. And that can only happen through technology. We in John Deere continuously work on developing new products, new technology.
Being the front runner of technology is actually core to John Deere. You know, innovation is one of our core competencies and we love to be first. We know this innovation is something that customers are asking for. You know, it's not just innovation for innovation's sake, but it's based on customer needs and requirements. Customers are telling us they have a lot of operators that don't know how to get the most out of their combines and this technology is going to solve for that. Harvesting in Africa is extremely important. You know, South Africa is one of the last frontiers for agriculture. South Africa has been in agriculture for a long time, but we spent most of this week working with the South African team here and understanding emerging opportunities for crop harvesting products. And the opportunities are ripe. Huge growth opportunity for John Deere. And we're really thrilled to be part of this as we start to evolve. This is my first time in South Africa. It's been a fantastic opportunity for me to not only be here in person, but also to learn and learn from both the branch people and the customers. And I want to thank both the dealers and the South African branch for their hospitality.
