Andrew Moat, a Melbourne diesel technician, won the 2024 Australian Construction and Forestry Service Technician of the Year award. He started as an aircraft mechanic before moving into diesel work, driven by a passion for fixing machines.
Best part of my job is probably helping people. You know, going to site and machines not working and then when you leave it is just getting people going again. Andrew Moat, field service technician from Derrimot down in Melbourne. I started out as an aircraft mechanic. I did that for about five years. Got made redundant and then wanted to reskill so I got into diesel stuff. Fixing problems, you know, you're going somewhere and the machine doesn't work and when you leave it does work. You know, it's a nice feeling when you've helped someone out.
The winner of the 2024 Construction and Forestry Service Tech of the Year for Australia is Andrew Moat from IDEO Equipment.
I gotta thank Scott and Tony from Pattern Pavement for nominating me for this award. I've got to thank John Deere for putting on this event and RDO for supporting me in getting here. Yeah, I was surpr and really upset that I then had to get up and make a speech in front of 200 people. Honestly, I hope things go back to normal and I go back out there and start fixing machines again because that's what I like doing, right? If you want to be a tech, if you're willing to work hard and put in the effort, it's, it's a good career and it's rewarding and it's worth doing.
