John Deere Combine GoHarvest: S700 Active Terrain Adjustment

A technical walkthrough of the Active Terrain Adjustment system on John Deere S700 combines. The feature automatically adjusts the machine's settings as it moves across uneven ground, helping operators maintain consistent harvesting performance on varied terrain without manual intervention.
Go Harvest get the most out of your S Series combine today before beginning any procedure, follow safety instructions, understand all safety decals according to the operator manual, and always wear seat belts. The following video is a quick reference guide for using Active Terrain adjust on your S700 series combine. The Active Terrain Adjustment system improves machine performance while harvesting in uphill and downhill terrain to reduce grain loss and and maintain grain quality. Active Terrain Adjustment allows the cleaning fan, chaffer and sieve to adjust automatically while harvesting. To access Active Terrain Adjustment, first select the menu icon in the bottom right corner, then select Applications, followed by the Active Terrain Adjustment icon OR Integrated Combine Adjustment 2 if equipped to enable the system, select the ON icon. The status updates for Active Terrain Adjustment are relayed to the operator through the status box. The system has 5 off not ready Monitoring, Applying Offsets and Fault Detected. Not Ready indicates harvesting parameters have not been met. The monitoring status indicates the system is active. Applying Offsets shows the system is changing machine settings to maintain performance and Fault Detected informs the operator that the system requires attention to correct an issue. The machine's current pitch, as well as the selected crop type can be identified in the lower left corner of the Active Terrain Adjustment application. As the machine travels uphill or downhill, that change will be shown and displayed in degrees. The three settings Active Terrain Adjustment controls are the fan speed, the chaffer clearance, and the sieve clearance. Current settings are displayed in black. The indicator will move as offsets are applied to accommodate for terrain and will be displayed in blue. To access advanced settings, simply select the Information and Settings icon in the top menu bar. Within the Settings tab lies adjustments for sensitivity, offsets, and adjustment triggers. Uphill sensitivity allows you to accelerate or decelera system reaction to vehicle pitch, helping reduce grain loss and tailings volume while harvesting uphill. Downhill sensitivity allows you to accelerate or decelerate system reaction to vehicle pitch, helping to maintain grain cleanliness while harvesting downhill. The higher the percentage, the quicker the machine will react to change. The offsets shown represent any machine settings that have changed from the original set point. Adjustment triggers allow you to select desired cleaning fan, sieve and chaffer step sizes that the system automatically adjusts to when harvesting in uphill and downhill terrain. If desired, the operator may choose to turn the automatic adjustment feature off for the sieve or chaffer. For additional information about the system and when to make adjustments, reference the help material within the Active Terrain Adjustment application by pressing the I button in the top menu bar. Please note that machine configuration and optionality will determine the user interface for Active Terrain Adjustment and may be different by machine. This video is intended to be a quick reference for active terrain adjustment on the S700 series combines.
