This is a YouTube video titled "John Deere Financial celebrates 25 years in Australia and New Zealand – George Him (Oasis Berries)" featuring George Him, a Cambodian refugee and owner of Oasis Berries, and his son Jet Nguyen. The content is a testimonial-style presentation from October 2023 where George shares his experience starting a strawberry farming business in Australia, overcoming financial challenges, and his long-term relationship with John Deere finance and equipment. His son Jet also discusses his passion for strawberry farming and the use of John Deere tractors on their farm. The video highlights family legacy, farming life, and equipment satisfaction.
When I first started the business here, I was very young, well in the 20s and most of the banks would say would turn me down. They said it was a high risk. My name is George Hym, I'm the owner of Oasis Berries. We migrated to Australia in 1983 as a refugee from Cambodia. You know, that time was the pulpit era. Ever since then we were in the strawberries industries for working for hotel and families back in those days. And we bought our first property in Wandon, I think in 1985 when the interest rate was like at 18%. We quickly paid it off in two years and the bank manager was very surprised. How did we do that with the interest rate of 18% but had a four bedroom house. We didn't tell them we'd turn into a mini factory and made costumes like batmans and so forth. After school I would go to the farm or help with the sowing and that's how we made ends meet. And while we're working on the strawberry farm as well, the whole family collectively work together and never draw wages. I heard about John Deere finance when we went and bought our first tractor. And that time was called John Page Motors. And he did say that I was going to be the first customer to John Deere credit. From there on we've never gone anywhere else but stuck with John Deere. It's quick, it's fast, it's to get the equipment you want. The rates and the interest rates they have is pretty good. Why are we still doing it after all these years? You know, I've got my sons that he wants to have a crack at it. My name's Jet Nguyen, I'm a grower son, George Hemm. I love strawberry farming because I reckon it's in my blood, you know, passed down from dad. So yeah, growing up on a strawberry farm, helping dad sitting in the cab next to him, it's like really fun. So we got a 6175M. I like it because it's comfortable, it drives good. Just hop in and just go. Before the season start. We use the tractors a lot. Probably that's when we use the tractors the most. We do a lot of groundwork with it, grading and packing the ground in moving dirt. And then after that we just use the smaller ones to do spraying, slashing as well. John is the best because power I reckon they have, especially the new one we have, it just goes. It's really simple to drive. Maybe I'm used to the green and gold, I don't know. But it's it's much easier to operate a John Deere than other ones, I think. No, I. I love John Deere, to be honest.
