Family farmers discuss how John Deere equipment and GPS technology help them work more efficiently. They share why reliable machinery and dealership support matter to their operations.
Farming is definitely in your veins. We're third generation. Our grandparents started here. Then we've taken over from our parents and hope to continue the tradition with our kids as well.
It has always been the family farm. It's home. It's a beautiful place to live.
It can be tough at times, but I just can't imagine waking up and not being able to look out, see the soil and see how the plants are growing and nature in progress as you're watching seed go into the soil, come out as a little plant, and the reward at the end when you're coming to harvest. Pretty much any tractor we've got here on the farm is all John Deere. We want to be at the forefront of what technology and developments there are. The tractors are set up so well that they're easy to get any operator trained up fast and efficiently. GPS tracking has been a revolution for us. Now we can pretty much hill 24 hours a day, and it's the basis of getting our plant establishment so good. A major thing for growing carrots is having a nice body and depth of soil. With that, you need horsepower and you need to have reliability in the machinery that you're using. We usually have a small window in between rain events where you need to get ground ready fast. By using the John Deere equipment, we can be guaranteed we're going to be there and doing the job. Personally, I've been dealing with them about 10 years. They've got a whole range of products that they support us with through the dealership and educational workshops that they've run.
Just knowing that you've got a piece of equipment there that if you ever have an issue with, you can ring somebody straight away and you'll have a solution very quickly.
They're not just there to sell your product, they're there to back it behind it as well.
They really do understand the importance of keeping a farm running.
They've got a lot of respect for what we do, and we've got a lot of respect for what they do for us as well.
