This is a YouTube video titled "John Deere Lawn Legends: Lawn Tips the 1/3 Rule (New Zealand)" featuring Brian Palmer, the golf course superintendent at Tarahini Golf Club, sharing practical advice on lawn care, specifically the 1/3 rule for mowing grass to maintain a healthy lawn. The content is instructional and focused on gardening tips.
My name is Brian Palmer, and I am the golf course superintendent here at Tarahini Golf Club. And while our team works really hard to maintain the links out there, I want to share with you a really useful tip to help you out with your home lawn here today. So I want to talk about the 1/3 rule, and that's really not to cut more than one third of the plant off at a time. One thing I see is people come back from holiday and things like that, and the initial reaction is to go and cut it down immediately, and that will cause it to slow down its growth. You're really gonna have problem with weeds and some undesirable grasses that may come in as you've really weakened your lawn. What you see here, we've got a stripe that we've mown, and this is, oh, probably right around 50 mil. And you can see the unmowned stuff over here is probably close to 65, 70. So while it might be a couple extra mows until you achieve your desirable height, if you abide by the 1/3 rule, you'll be that much closer to having a legendary lawn at home. Sa.
