Marcus Vine, an agricultural field technician at Brandt Dealership and Fielding, won New Zealand's 2024 Ag and Turf Service Technician of the Year. He talks about his career path, passion for training younger technicians, and what the award means to him.
I enjoy training the younger guys and watching them grow. Yeah, I'd definitely like to be a part of building a bigger, stronger team, I guess, increasing my knowledge and skills and keep moving with the equipment. My name is Marcus Vine. I'm an ag field technician at Brandt Dealership and Fielding. I did a pre trade mechanical course fresh out of school and from there made up some CVs and John Deere got back to me first and I sort of went to check it out. Looking back, it's a decision that I would never take back. I think agriculture provides a lot more opportunities. I enjoy getting outdoors, meet the customers and see how their operation works.
So the Ag and Turf Service Technician of the Year for New Zealand is Marcus vine from Brant Building.
It feels quite overwhelming, to be honest. I didn't actually expect to get the win, especially I know the competitor I was up against and he's a real skilled, competent technician. So proud moment for myself and to, you know, to represent the branch and the team back home. Yeah, it is challenging. I think that's why I still do it because not a day that goes past where I don't see something a little bit different, a little bit new. So I enjoy teaching the younger techs and getting the customer moving. When we turn up, it's a bad day for them because the machine's broken. Broken. We arrive, we get the machine going again. Finding the hero that saves the day, I suppose.
