A John Deere engineer explains how customer feedback shaped the design of booms, emphasizing the technical challenges and teamwork required to build equipment that actually works for farmers.
Design is important for me because my ambition is to design the best product for our customer. The bigger the challenge, the more motivated I am. My role is to connect the right engineers at the right time. I ensure that the customer feedback is taken into account in our project and I also ensure that we achieve the goals stated by customers. A boom is a combination of steel structures, welded ones and cast ones. Boom is a combination of hydraulics, automation, electrical wires. All those different functions need to work well together. One sign of a good structure is even distribution of stress. For example, if a weld is simple and easy to model, it's very often simple and easy to weld. The boom's behaviour is a complicated combination of different aspects. A boom needs to be easy to run because we don't want the customer to be tired after a working day. Customer is the main driver in everything that we do. Our focus is is to take care of customers problems. We design the booms for customers. A very rewarding situation is when a customer says that they did new productivity record. I will share my screen and let's look at the hose routing, how it runs. If you have the model ready next week. Yeah, I'll be waiting for your input. Thank you. Thank you and talk to you later. I need to be interested in what I do. I need to focus on the customer's needs. I need to understand that the input of different team members is very important. I am motivated by the high quality booms that are very challenging and demanding products. I am really motivated by this challenge. SA.
