John Deere | StarFire™ Advanced TCM Calibration

This is a YouTube video titled "John Deere | StarFire™ Advanced TCM Calibration" created in October 2024. It features Marcus Hall, a Product Marketing Manager for John Deere, providing a detailed instructional presentation on how to calibrate the Terrain Compensation Module (TCM) on Starfire GPS receivers used in agricultural machinery, specifically demonstrating the process on a John Deere 1795 planter.
Hi, my name is Marcus Hall, I'm a Product Marketing Manager for John Deere. Today we'll be talking about how to calibrate your TCM on your Starfire GPS receiver. TCM stands for Terrain Compensation Module and sets the roll, pitch and yaw angles of your GPS receiver to optimize the coverage maps and tracking lines. It must be calibrated when a receiver is first installed on a machine or or when a receiver is moved from one machine to another. One advantage of the Advanced TCM calibration is that it can be done on a machine and an implement with the receiver at the same time as long as the implement is in field operation mode. Today we are using a John Deere 1795 planter as our implement. The Advanced TCM calibration is more accurate than the standard two point calibration because it takes the average of multiple points for versus only two points like the standard two point calibration does. Today we'll be performing the TCM calibration on the Gen 4 display and a Starfire 6000 receiver with an additional Starfire 6000 receiver located on our 1795 planter. You will want to verify you have good SF1 or better signal before starting the calibration. Next you will drive the tractor in a figure 8 pattern twice to optimize the pitch and roll sensor. Navigate to the Starfire screen by pressing the menu, then application, then Starfire. In the bottom left hand corner you will find the Advanced TCM calibration icon. Go ahead and press that. Next, press the Cal button to begin the calibration. The next screen reminds you you need at least 330ft of open space to complete the calibration. Auto track should be disabled at this time. If it is, press Next. Here we will have the AutoTrac AB line. If the tractor is positioned correctly you can press Set a button, enter your desired heading and then click Done. Ensure your auto track is enabled and in 3pi state. Then click the resume switch and start tracking on the line. No faster than four miles an hour. As you are tracking across the field you will see the completion percentage climbing. After you reach point B you will be at 50%. Now you will need to turn the tractor around and auto track from point B to point A. Once again be sure your speed is consistent and not above 4 point miles an hour. Once you reach point A, display will tell you if it was successful or if it failed. If it was successful, click ok. If it failed then try again. If the calibration fails multiple times. Additional troubleshooting may be required. That concludes our TCM calibration, which optimizes coverage maps and tracking lines for your field operations. If you have any questions regarding the procedure, please see your local John Deere dealer. Thank you.
