This is a YouTube video titled "John Deere Taking the First Step with the Rethus'" containing a discussion focused on precision agriculture (PA) tools and practices. The speakers, identified as Speaker A and Speaker B, explain the importance of starting small with PA, using tools like an operations center to manage field data, and the benefits of grid soil sampling for efficient lime application. The content is instructional and aimed at helping users understand how to implement PA effectively.
If you're trying to start out in pa, I think the key thing is just to take some small steps. You know, everything builds on a few things that you want to achieve. Remember, these are tools to help you. They're not solutions, they're helping you make good decisions. So have a vision of where you want to be.
I'd suggest first thing is get on something like our operations centre. Just get a login, it's free and start using it. Start putting your paddocks in, start recording and capturing your data.
The importance of field boundaries is it's recording our data layers from our applications. So you know your seeding records, your tillage records, your spray records, your harvest data, yield maps are coming into that. You're also applying in any third parties like grid soil testing. And of course also you have your guidance lines for your harvesters, the lines that you're seeding on, making sure using the same ones each year if you control traffic like us or boundaries, so you don't hit the fence. Once you have your field boundaries set up, it allows your operations centre to start reporting on field progress. So it'll tell you about harvest progress across your entire harvest program as well. It'll tell you how much of the field's to go, how long it's going to take based on the processing time you've been doing. There are some easy wins like simple variable rate lime or gypsum. Applications are a no brainer. We've grid sampled a field, we did two hectare grids, so we've tried to go for a high resolution soil test. So what we were interested in is pH. Normally we'd be doing a blanket rate of lime across the whole field because we didn't know any better. But by using grid sampling and using the op center to build a prescription map, we actually then applied 40% less lime. And it's easy to see because literally you are delivering less truckloads to the paddock. The pile of lime is less, that's money saved. You're talking one truckload of lime saved is going to pay for that whole PA program for a.
