John Deere Women in Turf | Championing the role of females in Turf

This is a YouTube video titled "John Deere Women in Turf | Championing the role of females in Turf" featuring multiple speakers discussing the Women in Turf program at Cobhambrugge Golf Club. The participants share their experiences and perspectives on increasing female participation and improving culture in the turf industry. The content highlights the program's success, career opportunities for women, and the positive impact on the golf course community. The video was created in March 2024.
As much as I don't like the 4am alarm that goes off, being outside in the morning, it's the best part of the day. The Women in turf program has actually been a really good opportunity for everyone to meet and everyone to share their experiences. Setting up for a big course like this, you know, two sets of 18 holes, it's a big job to get around and get them all ready for play.
We're excited to have the Women in Turf program back for a second year at cobhambrugge Golf Club. The girls have done a brilliant job of blending with the team. I think that's the most important thing. First, they've been upbeat and vibrant, but we've found through this program for two years that there's just a better culture in general when the women are attending this tournament.
I've been changing holes and measuring the moisture of the greens and jobs don't really get to do often. I don't really get to work with many girls at my course. We've probably got one, but like this week there's like six girls. I've really enjoyed it and I think it's a good program to get more women into the industry because there's not many of us out there.
It doesn't need to be male dominated. Anyone can do it. You gotta have a love or passion for the industry. I think some of the guys don't expect some of the girls to know what they know. But then they come in here and the girls are teaching the greenkeepers here things. You know, Susie, she just looks after us. She's like the mum of the group. Bella's 17 and the rest of us just sliding in between. It's not whoever's older knows more. It's just everyone knows a different level of green.
Kid never actually worked with another female. It's all male staff where I work and yeah, so it's very cool to see a different side of it and see that there is other females in the industry. But I have only been working for around 10, 11 months, so I'm still. Yes. Yeah, first year. So it's pretty cool working outside and getting hands on. I wouldn't be able to sit in an office. So yeah, I think this job's perfect for me.
So. Last year was such a great success in the program. We found a lot of the females that attended have gone further in their careers and come to different golf courses. Brings different exposure them and different spirits. At John Deere, we are always looking to progress and improve each year on these sort of events. So we're always looking for other golf courses or sporting facilities or associations that would like to join us along this journey of ours.
I think it opens our eyes to sort of opportunities that we can do and what we can possibly take back to our ankles. I think it's so important because I don't feel like girls have the confidence to jump into an industry like this. And it can be intimidating, you know, if you get thrown out there onto a machine, you don't want to mess up. But it's once you get the experience, once you keep going, you actually realize how great it is.
