John Deere Z3 Series Comparison

Molly Ritterbeck and Tim Gallman walk through the John Deere Z3 series mowers, comparing deck sizes, engines, seats, lighting, hitches, and available attachments to help you pick the right one.
Hey, I'm Molly Ritterbeck coming to you from the Columbus sun south location. And today we're going to talk to you about some differences between the new Z3s, both the E and the R.
I'm Tim Gallman here at the Columbus store. Also here we have the Z325E and here we have the Z320R.
So one of the first things we're going to discuss today is the decks on the 48 and 54 inch. They're going to be a 10 gauge steel that is 40 forged. The 42 inch is going to be a 12 gauge steel that is stamped.
Another big difference for the 2023 models are you now have the foot control lift and instead of having the old pin system, you have a depth gauge which allows you to dial it into the precise height of cut that you desire. Another difference is on these models. For the models that end in five like the 325e here, it's still running the same Briggs and Stratton motor. This one happens to be the 24 horsepower. Any model that ends in zero like the Z320R here, these mowers are going to run with the Kawasaki mower, which is totally different from the norm.
One of the other things that we've done is we have different seats on these models this year. The E's, which is the one that I'm sitting on, has an 18 inch back. The R's and the M's have a 20 inch back. They have a premium look, a premium feel. They have more cushion in the seat and there you have more back support for those rough bumps that you might get in the road.
The R series mowers also have rubber floor mats which you can see here, unlike the E models. That basically reduces noise and gives you a better ride at the end of the day. Floor mats can also be purchased through parts for the E models.
The R series you're going to notice has some LED lights so that you can mow at any time of day or night, depending on if you like your neighbors or not.
The M and R series mowers also have the rear hitch which comes standard. The hitch has a tongue capacity of £100 with a tow capacity of £200.
You have your frame rails on these that are now 40% larger. The casters are also 66% larger with rear tires that are 30% larger on the 48 and 54 inch decks, but they are not larger on the 42 inch deck.
Fuel tank capacity on all these mowers is 3 gallons. That's going to average out to about 5 to 6 acres per cut without refueling.
On the attachments for these, you can also get mulch control kits. You can get material collection system kits. You can also get the floor mats for the E models. You can purchase armrests. All of these are things that you can get through your parts counter, along with the home maintenance kits to do all of your oil changes and filter changes on your own.
As far as engines go, for the 2023, the easy way to remember it is the 315E and the 325E are running your Briggs motors. The 315E has a 20 horsepower motor, while the 325E has a 24 horsepower Briggs motor. On the 320R and the 320M, 330R and 330M, they are running Kawasaki motors. 320R is 21.5 horsepower and the 330M is 23 horsepower. Both mowers are equipped with a storage compartment on the E. There is no cover on the M and R. You have a cover. You can purchase a cover for the E model through parts.
One other thing that is definitely making things easier in life is the parking brake is now on the handle. It's integrated, so you don't have to remember to pull from here. It's all here. And if you have any other questions, please feel free to call one of your local Sunset locations. And again, my name is Molly and this is Tim, and we're in the Columbus location.
