Losing Power on STIHL handheld equipment?!

Eric from SunSouth shows how to clean spark arrestors on STIHL equipment like the KM111R and BR600 blower. A clogged spark arrestor kills power, and cleaning it takes minutes. If your STIHL is losing power, this is the first thing to check.
I'm Eric with SunSouth. Dothan. Today I'm going to go over how to clean your spark arrestors on your steel equipment. If you've ever been using your steel equipment and it loses power, this is the first thing you want to check. The tools you'll need to check your spark arrestor and to get it out is a star driver, star screwdriver and a pair of needle nose pliers. And to clean it you'll need carbon choke cleaner. And we have all this here at SunSouth. Your first step on a lot of your steel equipment, your spark arrestor is mounted on the outside of the muffler. Okay. And it's a little screen right there inside. And all you have to do is take your star driver and there's two screws. You'll just loosen them up. You don't have to take them all the way out. Alright. Then you'll take your needle nose and it'll come out just like that right there. And then your spark arrestor screen is down inside the muffler. Alright. Now that we've got it out of the spark arrestor tray, you can see how black and dirty it looks right there. You want to take you just some parts cleaner and just spray it out really good, get all the black out of it. Once you get it sprayed out and cleaned, you just want to slide it back in and then put your screws back in and tighten it down. Now you can actually see through it now that I've sprayed it with braking carb cleaner and you can see through it and it's clean. So now all you got to do is just put it right back in just like it come out. And then tighten your screws down on these little tabs on these ears and they go right back in there. And then you turn, take your star driver and just tighten your screws back down. Now that one's been changed. All right. Also today we have a KM111R combi unit and I'm going to demonstrate how to pull it out of a trimmer head also that way y' all both know exactly where it's at on both units. On the back of the KM111R, there's a gap right here at the muffler and you'll see one screw right there. All you have to do is put your star driver in there, unscrew that screw, take it this one right here, you'll have to take the screw all the way out on it, take the screw out, have you a pair, have your needle nose pliers and then it pulls out like that and that's the screen on it. And you can see how kind of black and stopped up that one is. And like we did on the blower on the earlier video. I'll show you how to do this one, this one as well. Just take it, spray it out really good. Good. And then it'll go right back in just like it come out. You'll take it and it'll go back in just like it come out and line up the hole. Then you'll take your screwdriver, your star driver, and just tighten your screw back up just like it come out. And you've got that one cleaned out and put back in and installed correctly. So when you're using your tremor units and you losing power, this will be one of the first steps that I would take on checking and cleaning and that should fix majority of your problems. Alright, so this concludes our video on how to change out your spark arrestors in your KM111R and your BR600 blower. And so if your steel units are losing power, always remember to check this first because this could fix majority of your problems without losing power. And it's a quick and easy fix. But if you're having any other trouble with your steel units that you don't think you could fix, always thank Sunsouth and come see us in our service department.
